[01/06/16] All of us are aware of the recent tornado disaster that hit Garland, Rowlett, and other areas east of where most of us live. Most of us also wonder, "What can I do to help?" My own brother-in-law's roof, for example, was completely taken off of the home where he is staying and the house will now be leveled. You may not know that Bent Tree has a LifeGroup in Garland and this group has taken action to help their neighbors in a very tangible way. Last Saturday they helped serve food literally all day and into the night for victims of the storm. They've also been putting care bags together for area storm victims and distributing them. Bill and Teresa Hense lead this LifeGroup in Garland and they called yesterday asking for more help this Saturday January 9th, anytime from 9:00 am to 9:00 pm. They will be serving food to area storm victims in the "Church in the City" parking lot located at Dalrock & Hwy 66. You can come during any of those times and stay for as long as you want. For more information please contact Bill & Teresa Hense at 972-495-0486. Of course, let's pray for all the area storm victims. If you would like to give in some way you can make a financial donation through any of these trusted crisis responders: Redcross.org (Choose the "Local Community" option) or text REDCROSS to 90999 to send $10 to NTX Tornado Disaster Relief. Victimrelief.org Trained VRM volunteers are among the first responders on the ground. Of course, your prayers for all of these displaced families are also much needed! Thank you for your help!

Have you ever tried to understand where the prophets and writings fit into the Old Testament historical books or how a history of the people of Israel applies to Christians today? Dallas Theological Seminary graduate Fred Villa has prepared this study “Understanding the Old Testament: A Chronological Survey with Life Application” complete with a workbook including charts, graphs, maps and timelines that will help you better understand and apply the Old Testament to your life today. After this 12-week study, each learner will be able to understand the individual parts of God’s Word as well as place the parts into the story as a whole. Each prophet and writing will be placed chronologically within the books of history where they belong. Open to all ages.

Bent Tree Father/Teen Ranch Weekend April 4-6, 2014
Over the last 10 years, so many of our Bent Tree families have been positively impacted by the JH Ranch ministry in Northern California that we wanted to offer a similar ranch experience closer to home. Bent Tree’s ranch ministry was born directly out of Pete’s heart after taking his daughter, Annika, to JH Ranch and experiencing a renewed depth in their relationship coming out of that time together. Bent Tree began to offer what is now called the Bent Tree Father/Teen Ranch Weekend more than three years ago. Thanks to the generosity of Mike and Stephanie Tuttle, our church is able to offer a weekend ranch experience focusing on restoring the hearts of fathers to their teenage children and the hearts of these teenagers to their fathers (Malachi 4:6). The Tuttles’ ranch is located near Lindale (about two hours east of Carrollton) and includes a lake, a pond, horse stables, and a covered outdoor dining area, all woven into the beauty of rolling hills and woods. Spiritually encouraging talks are offered by Pete Briscoe, Steve Frissell, Tammy Gray, and Matt Thigpen. Throughout the weekend fathers and teens have opportunities to horseback ride, hike, shoot skeet, practice driving stick-shift jeeps, do ropes courses, stargaze through telescopes and more!
The next Father/Teen weekend is April 4-6, 2014. Register before February 2014 and save $30. But hurry — this year’s Father/Teen Ranch Weekend is limited to the first 150 pairs of dads and teens! You can also register to serve in any number of roles at the ranch next year. See registration at the Bent Tree Father/Teen Ranch Weekend on Facebook https://www.facebook.com/BentTreeFatherTeenWeekend

Bent Tree Plano/Lewisville and surrounding communities events coming up!
1. Community Service Day Saturday Oct. 26 - It will be exciting to serve at CCA (Christian Community in Action) this year during 1 or 4 possible shifts on the 26th. This Christian based ministry provides food, clothing, medical, and dental services to those less fortunate in our midst. They do this by collecting donations of used clothing and selling them in one of their many outlets throughout the Metroplex. They have had to hire people to help them sort out the 26 million items they collect each year but we want to help them do this without charge! This would be a great event to come to as a small group or even as an individual. Consider bringing a friend with you who is not yet a Christian and serve together. What a great way to get to know your friend better and show Christ's friendship to them! Please see the link and instructions below on how to sign up for 1 of the 4 shifts available on the 26th.
Here is the link for the first shift (9-11AM) to serve at CCA on Oct 26:
For the other three shifts click on “More Needs” on the right column. This will bring up the other three shifts and allow you to register for another time slot.
Click the “Meet Need” box in the lower right corner and enter how many people you plan to bring. You will be prompted to create an account if you have not done so already. Automatic e-mail reminder will be sent to remind you of the day and time you will be serving. Each slot is limited to 15 participants so get your spots now!
2. Legacy Christian Forum Business Luncheon -
On October 15th, Gene and Rene Haub will be our speakers. Mr. Haub and his wife have been working with Family Life for over 15 years and are very involved in marriage ministry. Please feel free to invite your non-Christian friends to attend!
Please see this page to RSVP and find out more details.
3. Evangelism Training Workshop with Garry Poole - You will want to save the date on your calendars for this workshop experience with author and speaker Garry Poole!
