My 2 sisters and I went to summer camp at St. Dorothy's Rest for several summers during our childhood. This was way back in the mid to late 1960's. I came across some photos I took there when I was about 10 years. old. The weeks we spent at St. Dorothy's Rest were just awesome! Thank you for all of the great memories.
From Annie's Dad . . . Annie's Birthday is on Tuesday and although she's not with us I'm sure she'd like some help to send a gift to her favorite place to be, St. Dorothy's Rest. She always considered it kind of a Heaven on Earth.
Any idea when the 2018 camp schedule will be released? Summer planning is ON!
Love St. Dorothy's!!!
I was watching the weather and it looks like St. Dorothy's had a surprise summer rain storm. I hope the campers are enjoying the surprise and that there is enough to keep them occupied if stuck indoors. I'm sure it's been a great week!
I look forward all year to our retreat.it's like going home.the staff is wonderful the nicest people you want to meet.getting out of the car you can feel goodness in the air and I slow down from 90 mph to crusing. speed.it's where I remember who I am and what is important

St. Dorothy’s is a camp and retreat center in Sonoma County. The oldest camp in California, St. Dot’s has been serving children and adults from all faiths and all walks of life for over 100 years.

At the heart of St. Dorothy’s mission are camps for youth, ages 5-18. Beautifully located in the heart of a redwood forest and just miles from the Pacific Ocean and the Russian River, St. Dot’s offers a unique summer camp experience that celebrates the natural world. Hiking, canoeing, and swimming are as much a part of the camp experience as s’mores, campfire songs and archery. Throughout the late

Dear Friends of St. Dorothy’s Rest,

It is with a mixture of excitement and sadness that I write to share with you that I am stepping down as Executive Director at St. Dorothy’s Rest. Over the last 17 years, I have had the remarkable privilege of overseeing the hospitality and service of this great institution. This time has been full of joy and laughter, growth and challenge, and I will miss you and your children. Since my first camp experience as a child, camping has been a central part of my life, and St. Dorothy’s reflects that. There is much that I am proud of, even more, that I celebrate.

I am leaving our campers, retreat-goers, and staff in good hands. The Board is in the process of finalizing our new interim Director who will oversee the joyful return of campers this summer. We are also planning for a modified reopening for retreats this fall. As you know, the pandemic has been difficult for St. Dot’s, but I am leaving it with a strong and viable sustainability plan for the long term.

What is next for me? I have accepted a new position with Congregation Shomrei Torah in Santa Rosa as their Executive Director. I look forward to supporting the programs, religious school, lifelong learning, and active social action agenda of this congregation. I will bring the wisdom and blessings from St. Dorothy’s to this new work. I will also celebrate my graduation from CDSP in May and ordination to the Transitional Diaconate in June while continuing to serve at Ascension Episcopal Church in Vallejo.

I look forward to working with the interim Director, alongside the staff and board of St. Dorothy’s Rest, to transition this new team to summer camp, retreat operations, and a beautiful future. Please reach out if you have any questions and know how grateful I am for my work at St. Dot’s and my interactions with you, our supporters, campers, and guests.

"This is goodnight and not goodbye."

In hope, faith, love, and luck,

Katie Evenbeck

St. Dorothy's Rest Ritual

We have much to give thanks for today.

This morning we said goodbye to an incredible AmeriCorps NCCC team after 3 months of hosting and working with them here at St. Dorothy's and in our surrounding community.

We have a small but mighty staff team dedicated to continuing to care for St. Dorothy's in this strangest and challenging time. Our staff is hard at work putting together plans to safely welcome people back into our space and are actively looking toward different possibilities for summer camp 2021.

And we have YOU, our friends and supporters, who have reached out, checked in, and given of your time and money, who continue to hold this place and our ministry in your hearts, even if we can't gather in person here right now.

We miss you. We are thankful for you. Please sing, chant, and pray the Ritual with us today and consider making a donation to St. Dorothy's Rest on this #GivingTuesday

Give to St. Dorothy's Rest today!

Give to St. Dorothy's Rest today!

web-extract.constantcontact.com Hello Friends of St. Dorothy's, In this letter, I’m going to promise not to fall back on the most overused words of 2020 – uncertainty, unprecedented, “new normal” and far more than we’d ever hoped to

[10/16/20]   On Tuesday evening, October 13, 2020, the board at St. Dorothy’s Rest unanimously approved a long overdue sabbatical for Katie Evenbeck. Katie has been the Executive Director at St. Dorothy’s for over 16 years and has put off using her well-earned sabbatical time for several years.

This has been a challenging year for all of us and St. Dorothy’s has certainly not escaped the strain and uncertainty that Covid19 has plunged everyone into. Early in the pandemic Katie made the bold decision, with the board’s support, to close all operations here through the end of 2020. She saw this as an opportunity to let St. Dorothy’s have its own rest.

It is with this same intention that Katie and the board approached her sabbatical. Katie is taking this time to rest, seek renewal, and discern next steps for St. Dorothy’s and herself. With the limited operations at St. Dorothy’s because of COVID19, everyone involved in this decision felt it was an ideal time to move forward with plan. Katie’s sabbatical started on October 15th. She will return on March 1st, ready to join in the visioning and planning for a safe and new way to do summer camp here at St. Dorothy’s and to continue to build the community and connection to nature that we do so well.

While Katie is away, Sara Gunter will be filling in as acting executive director, working closely with the board to oversee St. Dorothy’s finances, development projects, and plans to try new retreat models in early 2021. Please reach out if you have questions:

This morning, as smoke from wildfires fills the air, our thoughts turn to all those in harm's way. We pray especially for our neighbors in the Dioceses of Northern California and El Camino Real, as well as the Bishop's Ranch and St. Dorothy's Rest as they evacuate their staff. Our diocesan disaster response coordinator, the Rev. Jane McDougle, is checking in today with our camp and conference centers, Marin Deanery congregations, and other California dioceses today to assess their needs and identify ways we all can help. We will be sharing this information with our clergy, lay leaders, and the rest of our generous and loving community in the coming days.

Loving God, guide us in our efforts to be agents of healing and hope. Strengthen us as we face own fears and uncertainties, and walk with us as we offer comfort and compassion to those in harm's way. May we not grow weary in our efforts, and may we always be reminded of your ever-present love. Amen.

[08/19/20]   Out of an abundance of caution St. Dorothy’s Rest decided to evacuate all staff yesterday evening, August 18, in response to wildfires in West Sonoma County. This decision was not made lightly. We deemed it wisest to leave before an evacuation notice was made so as to be as safe as possible and so as not to add further burden to local resources or traffic.

We are now each safe and far away from the fires. As a staff we continue to meet and to stay in regular communication. Please join us in praying for St. Dorothy’s Rest, our surrounding community, all of Sonoma County, and for the fire fighters and first responders. #wallbridgefire #sonomastrong
