Sunday School at 9:30 am.

Operating as usual

Have We Forgotten?

Today we remember the events of 9/11/01 and the days that followed, uniting us as a country, albeit far from perfect, but united nevertheless as we were determined to overcome the evil in our midst on that horrific day. Stories surfaced of the selfless acts of bravery and compassion of so many people. Visual images are forever embedded in our minds, but have we forgotten those things that brought us together?

Moses told the Israelites to remember all the great things God had done for them on the way to the Promised Land, to teach them to their children since the children hadn’t experienced them first hand, and to “place these words on your heart. Tie them on your hands and foreheads. Talk about them wherever you are, whatever you’re doing, from the time you get up until you go to bed.”

As followers of Jesus Christ, we have to remember our blessings and those moments when God was moving in our lives and tell them to others who may not have experienced them firsthand. Sharing our stories makes us stronger in our faith and encourages others to share in the journey themselves.

Our Scripture readings for today were Psalm 91 and Deuteronomy 11:1-9, 18-21. We encourage you to read them and take them to heart.

May God bless you real good this week!

Like the great cloud of dust that followed the collapse of the Twin Towers blinding a man so he couldn’t find his way, “dust” blurs our vision so that we also don’t/can’t see or think clearly. What can we do about it? Watch Katie’s Children’s message for today for the answer.

Fully Armored and Prepared for Battle

Paul concludes his letter to the Ephesian churches in chapter 6 by encouraging them to put on the whole armor of God so they could stand firm against the strategies of Satan. Sometimes the evil that lurks around us goes unnoticed until it’s too late to avert an undesirable consequence.

“Be strong in the Lord and in the power of his might…after the battle you will still be standing firm.”

Our Scripture readings for today were 1 Samuel 17:32-40 and Ephesians 6:10-20.

I pray that God blesses you real good this week! Stand firm and be ready to spread the Good News!

[08/30/21]   Thanks to all that came out last night to support our annual ice cream social! Whether you made some scrumptious ice cream (and there were several flavors to choose from), any of our delicious desserts, or just came for the fellowship and ice cream, we truly appreciate you being a part of making this evening a success! We hope to see you again next year!

[08/30/21]   This morning, Roger Otto was our guest speaker and spoke about the ministry of the Gideons here in Missouri and around the world. It was a blessing to hear of their mission and their desire to get Bibles to as many places as possible to spread the Good News.

Next week we’ll get back into our sermon series on Ephesians picking up in chapter 6 focused on the whole armor of God. We hope you’ll join us in person or check our FB page for worship.

May God bless you real good this week!

Seize the Day! There’s No Time to Waste!

Almost all of us are guilty of “Don’t do today what you can put off until tomorrow” once in a while, but sometimes tomorrow never comes. In Ephesians 5, we’re told to “make the most of every opportunity in these evil days.” We only have today to do what needs to be done. Yesterday is already gone and tomorrow isn’t guaranteed.

Our Scripture readings for today were Psalm 34:1-10 and Ephesians 5:15-20.

Hillsong - Here I Am To Worship [with lyrics]

Today I took a much-needed Sabbath rest and my good friend and brother in Christ, Rusty Shultz, delivered the message for our church this morning. The Scripture lessons were Deuteronomy 31:6, Hebrews 13:5-6, and Joshua 1:9.

May God bless you abundantly this week!

Children’s Time ~ August 15

[08/09/21]   We had some technical difficulties with recording Katie’s Children’s message this morning so, unfortunately, we don’t have a much of a video for it.

Using a big bowl of water, Katie had several objects to put in the water asking the question, “Will it sink or float?” A wood block floated and also aluminum foil while flat, but not wadded up in a ball. But did you know that under the right conditions that a paper clip will float? Or that a can of Diet Coke floats more than a can of regular Coke?

Katie shared the story of Jesus walking on water leading to Peter’s desire to also walk on water from Matthew 14. As long as Peter’s eyes and attention were focused on Jesus, he stayed on top of the water. But when he focused on the storm, taking his eyes off Jesus, he began to sink.

Like Peter, when we are focused on Jesus, we can do amazing things. When we lose sight of Jesus, we too begin to flounder and sink through the storms of life.

Thank you, Katie, for a great visual demonstration of a powerful life lesson.

Be an Imitator of Christ - Walk in Love

Ok, 3rd attempt to post this today

Paul said in Ephesians 4, “Be angry when needed, but don’t let the sun go down on that anger and let it fester.” “If you’re a thief, knock it off and get an honest job so that you can help others in need.” Most importantly, in chapter 5, “Christ didn’t love us in order to get something from us, but to give everything of himself to us. Love like that.”

These words can be tough when taken to heart - more of that preachin’ to meddlin’ stuff. By example, Christ set the bar high for how we, as his followers, should live our lives in this world.

Our Scripture readings for today were John 6:41-51 and Ephesians 4:21-5:2. We encourage you to read these verses and meditate on them. As one of our songs said this morning, “There’s room at the cross for you.”

May God bless you real good this week!

One God, One Faith, One Body

One God, One Faith, One Body

Sometimes sermons hit a little too close to home and things go from preaching’ to meddlin’. Ephesians 4 marks a shift in the letter from reinforcing the church’s faithfulness to guidance into why what they were doing was so important. The focus is on unity in the body while still retaining individuality as each member brings their gifts to the table for service.

Our Scripture readings for today were 1 Corinthians 10:1-5, 11-18 and Ephesians 4:1-16. Check out Katie’s Children’s message too if you haven’t already.

The Olympics gives us a glimpse into what God’s plan is for the world as athletes from around the globe come together in a spirit of peace and unity for friendly competition- setting aside the things that divide us and focusing on those things that bring us closer together.

Deeply Rooted in God’s Love

In Ephesians 3, Paul again explains God’s plan for everyone that trusts him - that we all share in the eternal inheritance prepared for us. Paul was so overjoyed when he thought about the riches we have in Christ that he fell to his knees and prayed that all people would come to know high high, how, deep, how wide and how long God’s love is and that we might come to a better understanding of what God’s plan means for us.

Our Scripture readings for today were Psalm 145:10-18 and Ephesians 3:14-21. I encourage y’all to read the first 3 chapters of Ephesians in their entirety to fill in any blanks.

May God bless you real good this week!

Looking Forward to Each New Day

Sometimes getting up in the morning can be a struggle. Other days, when we’ve got something to really look forward to, it’s no problem at all. Each new day is a gift from God and we should be rejoicing in the opportunities it presents.

The Spirit Dwells within US!

The letter to the Ephesians reminds us that, through Christ, we are all united as one body of believers free from rules and divisions that cause folks to jump through hoops in order to be accepted.

The Soirit of God lives in us, not within the walls of the church. When David wanted to build a house for God rather than having the Ark of the Covenant out in a tent, God said he’d never lived in a house, but lived in the midst of his people.

The Scripture readings for today were 2 Samuel 7:1-13 and Ephesians 2:11-22. May God bless you abundantly this week!

Sometimes after meals we’ve got extra left over that we can save for another time. God’s grace and love are like that. There’s always an abundance with more for another time.

CityAlight - Grace 07/12/2021

CityAlight - Grace

Your grace that leads this sinner home
From death to life forever
And sings the songs of righteousness
By blood and not by merit.

By grace I am redeemed
By grace I am restored
And now I freely walk into the arms of Christ my Lord.

Blessed, Chosen, and Part of the Family

We began a short, maybe not so short, series on Ephesians this morning. Paul wrote this letter to the churches in Ephesus that was passed around by the new churches there. He praised them for their faithfulness and reminded them that all of their blessings were gifts from God because of God’s unconditional love and unending grace and not as a result of something they’d done.

God’s love extends to everyone no matter what your backstory is or what baggage you might be dragging with you. God loves you already, even if you don’t know it. Come join us for worship at 10:30 am and experience that love firsthand.

Our Scripture readings today were Psalm 85:8-113 and Ephesians 1: 3-14.

May God bless you real good this week!

Freedom Worth Dying For

Today we celebrate our independence and our freedoms as a nation. Paul tells us in Galatians 2:15-21 what real, true freedom looks like for believers of Jesus Christ. The preacher got a little long-winded today, but we had a lot to cover.

Celebrate your freedom in Christ today and count your blessings! Have a great week! God loves you so much!

Celebrating the 4th of July

Isaiah 49:13 tells us to burst forth in song in response to the blessings we enjoy. God has richly blessed us as individuals and as a country and we have a lot to celebrate!

Don’t Cry Over Spilled Milk!

Does It Really Matter?

When we were kids, our parents told us to make our beds every day and to pick up our rooms. Does it really matter since we’d have to do it again tomorrow? We could say the same about folding laundry and putting it away. Why not just leave it in a pile? We’re going to wear it again anyway.

Today’s message was about two miraculous healings, the restoration of life to Jairus’ 12 year old daughter and the healing of the woman who’d exhausted all efforts to be made well after a 12 year battle with bleeding. Did Jesus’ healing touch really matter since both of them eventually grew old and passed away? Absolutely! It mattered greatly to them and their families and it should matter to us as people of faith and hope. Our Scripture lessons today were 1 Corinthians 13 and Mark 5:21-43.

Have a great week! Count your blessings and cherish each day. May God bless you real good!

Don’t Cry Over Spilled Milk!

It was such a blessing to have Katie Wiley here for our Children’s message today!

Sometimes things don’t always go as planned, but Scripture encourages us to not fret about it because God is in control and when we trust him we don’t need to worry or be afraid.

Sometimes He Callms the Storm, Sometimes He Calms Me

In this life we’re going to encounter storms, some weather related and many that are on a deeper, personal level. Jesus didn’t promise he’d calm every storm in our life, but he did promise to be with us in the midst of the storm.

Our Scripture readings for today were Psalm 46 and Mark 4:35-41.

May God bless you real good this week! Happy Father’s Day!

[06/13/21]   As Annual Conference draws to a close and the appointments have been fixed for the coming year, I’m happy to officially announce that I’ve been reappointed to Bethel UMC for another season! I’m blessed to continue to serve here as your pastor. Thanks, church, for your support and partnership in ministry.

We Plant the Seed, God Brings the Harvest

Good afternoon, my friends! Our Scripture readings for today were 2 Corinthians 5:6-17 and Mark 4:26-34. Jesus almost always taught by telling stories, parables as they’re called, to help folks better understand his words. Today’s Kingdom parables were about planting seeds and then seeing what wondrous things God can do with them.

Praise God today for the people that God has put along our paths that have planted the seeds that have grown and flourished to help us become who we are now! Praise God for the opportunities to sow some seeds in someone else’s life and praise God even more when you see what God can do with those seeds when they take root!

Have a blessed week! God is good!
