Stevenson of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles to represent The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints at the U.S. presidential inauguration January 20, 2017 in Washington, D.C., continuing a tradition, going back more than a century, of Mormon leadership supporting and celebrating the process that makes possible the peaceful transfer of power.
At the request of the U.S. Presidential Inauguration Committee, the Mormon Tabernacle Choir has accepted an invitation to sing at the swearing-in ceremony during the presidential inauguration at the U.S. Capitol next month in Washington, D.C.
Today at the Smithsonian National Museum of African American History and Culture many gathered to celebrate the indexing of the historic Freedmen’s Bureau Records.
On behalf of FamilySearch and The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Elder D Todd Christofferson shared "One of our key beliefs is that our families can be linked forever in this life and in the life hereafter and that knowing the sacrifices, the joys and the paths our ancestors trod helps us to know who we are and what we can accomplish. It is a priceless gift.”

Well done Ashburn VA Stake.
Past Day to Serve projects becomes larger county wide events.
For the past 5 years, the Ashburn Stake has been the lead coordinator of two Stake Day to Serve Events:
Love Your Neighbor, Feed Your Neighbor Multi-faith Food Drive
Loudoun County Hunger Summit (partners: Board of Supervisors and Loudoun Chamber) organized to explore ways to identify resources, combine efforts and discover ways to encourage self-reliance.
This year, both events have been safely moved to strong community organizations. The LYNFYN food drive is rotating leadership amongst the faith community and continues to grow.
The Hunger Summit saw a presence in this week's "Loudoun Now" newspaper, titled: Hunger Summit: Together at the Table by Margaret Morton, It states, "the summit is a partnership between the Community Foundation of Loudoun/Fauquier Counties and Loudoun Hunger; and has its roots in the work of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints."
It's exciting to see these projects take root. Day to Serve is a unique annual initiative that transcends politics and religious differences. It unites people of all faiths, races, cultures, and backgrounds with the shared goal of helping those in need and improving the communities where we live.
Thank you for all you do, each and every day. We know the service you do takes root as well.
WV Recovery Day of Service:
Our Day to Serve donation drive yielded 3 tractor trailers (53ft) and 2 trucks (26ft) of furniture, appliances and clothes going to West Virginia.
Additionally almost 200 slots are filled for work in West Virginia which include installing insulation, painting, cleaning and more.
Thank you to all who provided service via monetary donations (to the LDS Humanitarian fund), served today on the day of donation and/or volunteered your labor in WV.
You may have seen the local news crawl and local papers which shared recent racist vandalism to the historic Ashburn Colored School here in Loudoun County, Virginia.
This Historic Ashburn School operated from 1892 until the late 1950s and was undergoing a rehabilitation project. Friday night, October 1st - vandals defamed it with spray paint etc.
On Sunday, October 9th from 9 a.m - 2 p.m., the community is
encouraged to help with the on-site NAACP work day to remove the swastikas and slurs graffitied on to the Old School.
patch.com Loudoun's Republican and Democratic parties issued a joint statement condemning the racist vandalism to the historic Ashburn Colored School.
More community service opportunities. One that other ward organizations have participated in is picking up food from the Leesburg warehouse then packing them at a YM/YW, Activity day or Scout meeting. After they are done packing, the organization will return the packed food to the warehouse for distribution to the schools.
Here's another community service opportunity for wards, ward organizations, families, Day to Serve etc.
