Belmont Ridge Ward Elders Quorum

Get to know Belmont Ridge Elders Quorum members, activities and upcoming events.

[03/11/17]   The Bishop has asked all ward members to participate in our quarterly church cleaning assignment; we all use the building and are all asked to equally share in cleaning it. This includes brethren, sisters, and families/kids. March is our ward's turn again, and families associated with the Elder's Quorum have been assigned to conduct the cleaning on the Saturdays of 11 and 25 March.

To reduce the burden on everyone, we are again only asking each family to be involved one time during the month. Last names beginning with A-I are assigned to clean the chapel tomorrow, 11 March. Last names beginning with J-Z are assigned the 25 March cleaning. Cleaning both days will begin at 8am; please be prompt so we can all work together to complete the cleaning as quickly as possible. Upon arrival on the date you are assigned, please check-in with you date's leader for a cleaning assignment. (We will all help each other until all assignments are complete so all can leave together.) With good participation, we are generally wrapped up in just over an hour. Donuts will be provided!

Note: If you cannot make the morning you are assigned, please find someone from the other date to switch with and inform your date's leader as to who you are switching with. All are asked to please faithfully fill this assignment, as failure to participate places an unfairly greater burden on others.

(If you notice anyone I have inadvertently left off the below lists, please forward this note to them.)

[02/12/17]   Thank you, Brother Tommy Jackson, for your lesson this week on happiness. -- Some things to think about: What is happiness? What can you do to increase the positivity in your life? What act of service can you render to those around you? Are you valuing your personal relationship with your family members above material things?

Here's a great quote from the lesson:

“Anyone who imagines that bliss is normal is going to waste a lot of time running around shouting that he has been robbed.

“[The fact is] most putts don’t drop. Most beef is tough. Most children grow up to be just people. Most successful marriages require a high degree of mutual toleration. Most jobs are more often dull than otherwise. …

“Life is like an old-time rail journey—delays, sidetracks, smoke, dust, cinders and jolts, interspersed only occasionally by beautiful vistas and thrilling bursts of speed.

“The trick is to thank the Lord for letting you have the ride”

(Jenkins Lloyd Jones; quoted in “Big Rock Candy Mountains,” Deseret News, 12 June 1973, A4).

[01/08/17]   In thinking of Calderwood family's recent loss, I share this scripture:

"11 Now, concerning the state of the soul between death and the resurrection—Behold, it has been made known unto me by an angel, that the spirits of all men, as soon as they are departed from this mortal body, yea, the spirits of all men, whether they be good or evil, are taken home to that God who gave them life.

12 And then shall it come to pass, that the spirits of those who are righteous are received into a state of happiness, which is called paradise, a state of rest, a state of peace, where they shall rest from all their troubles and from all care, and sorrow."

(Book of Mormon, Alma 40)
In memory of Connor Calderwood.

[11/25/16]   "2 ...the alms of your prayers have come up into the ears of the Lord of Sabaoth, and are recorded in the book of the names of the sanctified, even them of the celestial world.

3 Wherefore, I now send upon you another Comforter, even upon you my friends, that it may abide in your hearts, even the Holy Spirit of promise; which other Comforter is the same that I promised unto my disciples, as is recorded in the testimony of John.

4 This Comforter is the promise which I give unto you of eternal life, even the glory of the celestial kingdom;"

(D&C 88:2-4.)

5 Which glory is that of the church of the Firstborn, even of God, the holiest of all, through Jesus Christ his Son—

[02/13/16]   "And now, my sons, remember, remember that it is upon the rock of our Redeemer, who is Christ, the Son of God, that ye must build yourfoundation; that when the devil shall send forth his mighty winds, yea, his shafts in the whirlwind, yea, when all his hail and his mighty storm shall beat upon you, it shall have no power over you to drag you down to the gulf of misery and endless wo, because of the rock upon which ye are built, which is a sure foundation, a foundation whereon if men build they cannot fall." (The Book of Mormon, Helaman 5:12.)

[12/16/15]   "28 Yea, thus we see that the gate of heaven is open unto all, even to those who will believe on the name of Jesus Christ, who is the Son of God.

29 Yea, we see that whosoever will may lay hold upon the word of God, which is quick and powerful, which shall divide asunder all the cunning and the snares and the wiles of the devil, and lead the man of Christ in a strait and narrow course across that everlasting gulf of misery which is prepared to engulf the wicked—

30 And land their souls, yea, their immortal souls, at the right hand of God in the kingdom of heaven, to sit down with Abraham, and Isaac, and with Jacob, and with all our holy fathers, to go no more out." (The Book of Mormon, Helaman 3:28-30.)

[11/22/15]   "And it is requisite with the justice of God that men should be judged according to their works; and if their works were good in this life, and the desires of their hearts were good, that they should also, at the last day, be restored unto that which was good." (The Book of Mormon, Alma 41:3.)

[10/17/15]   36 And when the light shall begin to break forth, it shall be with them like unto a parable which I will show you—

37 Ye look and behold the fig trees, and ye see them with your eyes, and ye say when they begin to shoot forth, and their leaves are yet tender, that summer is now nigh at hand;

38 Even so it shall be in that day when they shall see all these things, then shall they know that the hour is nigh.

39 And it shall come to pass that he that feareth me shall be looking forth for the great day of the Lord to come, even for the signs of the coming of the Son of Man.

40 And they shall see signs and wonders, for they shall be shown forth in the heavens above, and in the earth beneath.

41 And they shall behold blood, and fire, and vapors of smoke.

42 And before the day of the Lord shall come, the sun shall be darkened, and the moon be turned into blood, and the stars fall from heaven.

43 And the remnant shall be gathered unto this place;

44 And then they shall look for me, and, behold, I will come; and they shall see me in the clouds of heaven, clothed with power and great glory; with all the holy angels; and he that watches not for me shall be cut off. (D&C 45)

[09/30/15]   95 And there shall be silence in heaven for the space of half an hour; and immediately after shall the curtain of heaven be unfolded, as a scroll is unfolded after it is rolled up, and the face of the Lord shall be unveiled;

96 And the saints that are upon the earth, who are alive, shall be quickened and be caught up to meet him.

97 And they who have slept in their graves shall come forth, for their graves shall be opened; and they also shall be caught up to meet him in the midst of the pillar of heaven—

98 They are Christ’s, the first fruits, they who shall descend with him first, and they who are on the earth and in their graves, who are first caught up to meet him; and all this by the voice of the sounding of the trump of the angel of God.

(D&C 88:95-98.)

[09/16/15]   "And now, behold, my beloved brethren, this is the way; and there is none other way nor name given under heaven whereby man can be saved in the kingdom of God. And now, behold, this is the doctrine of Christ, and the only and true doctrine of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost, which is one God, without end. Amen." [08/06/15]   "The Prophet Joseph always had the interests of the Church at heart. It was the burden he carried day and night. Like the Master, he was a man ‘despised and rejected’ by many; ‘a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief,’ but he never lost sight of his great mission. God, therefore, assured him that the sacrifices he had made, and the acknowledgement of his weakness, were pleasing to Him..., and that his prayers had been heard." Are You Ready for What the Sabbath Offers? - Church News and Events

lds.org Reverencing the Sabbath can lead us to personal revelation, and this reverencing should begin well before the Sabbath arrives.

[07/17/15]   16 And the resurrection from the dead is the redemption of the soul.

17 And the redemption of the soul is through him that quickeneth all things, in whose bosom it is decreed that the poor and the meek of the earth shall inherit it.

18 Therefore, it must needs be sanctified from all unrighteousness, that it may be prepared for the celestial glory;

19 For after it hath filled the measure of its creation, it shall be crowned with glory, even with the presence of God the Father;

20 That bodies who are of the celestial kingdom may possess it forever and ever; for, for this intent was it made and created, and for this intent are they sanctified.

(D & C 88:16-20)

[06/17/15]   32 Yea, come unto Christ, and be perfected in him, and deny yourselves of all ungodliness; and if ye shall deny yourselves of all ungodliness, and love God with all your might, mind and strength, then is his grace sufficient for you, that by his grace ye may be perfect in Christ; and if by the grace of God ye are perfect in Christ, ye can in nowise deny the power of God.

33 And again, if ye by the grace of God are perfect in Christ, and deny not his power, then are ye sanctified in Christ by the grace of God, through the shedding of the blood of Christ, which is in the covenant of the Father unto the remission of your sins, that ye become holy, without spot.

(Book of Mormon, Moroni 10:32-33.)

[04/28/15]   5 And it came to pass that when Jesus had thus spoken, he cast his eyes round about again on the multitude, and beheld they were in tears, and did look steadfastly upon him as if they would ask him to tarry a little longer with them.

6 And he said unto them: Behold, my bowels are filled with compassion towards you.

7 Have ye any that are sick among you? Bring them hither. Have ye any that are lame, or blind, or halt, or maimed, or leprous, or that are withered, or that are deaf, or that are afflicted in any manner? Bring them hither and I will heal them, for I have compassion upon you; my bowels are filled with mercy.

8 For I perceive that ye desire that I should show unto you what I have done unto your brethren at Jerusalem, for I see that your faith is sufficient that I should heal you.

(Book of Mormon, 3 Nephi 17.)

[02/10/15]   10 And it came to pass that I beheld a tree, whose fruit was desirable to make one happy.

11 And it came to pass that I did go forth and partake of the fruit thereof; and I beheld that it was most sweet, above all that I ever before tasted. Yea, and I beheld that the fruit thereof was white, to exceed all the whiteness that I had ever seen.

12 And as I partook of the fruit thereof it filled my soul with exceedingly great joy; wherefore, I began to be desirous that my family should partake of it also; for I knew that it was desirable above all other fruit.
(Book of Mormon, 1 Nephi 8:10-12.)

[02/07/15]   15 ¶Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves.
16 Ye shall know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes of thorns, or figs of thistles?
17 Even so every good tree bringeth forth good fruit; but a corrupt tree bringeth forth evil fruit.
18 A good tree cannot bring forth evil fruit, neither can a corrupt tree bring forth good fruit.
19 Every tree that bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire.
20 Wherefore by their fruits ye shall know them.
(King James Version, Bible, Matthew 7:15-20.)

[02/03/15]   24 And as surely as the Lord liveth, will he gather in from the four quarters of the earth all the remnant of the seed of Jacob, who are scattered abroad upon all the face of the earth.

25 And as he hath covenanted with all the house of Jacob, even so shall the covenant wherewith he hath covenanted with the house of Jacob be fulfilled in his own due time, unto the restoring all the house of Jacob unto the knowledge of the covenant that he hath covenanted with them.

26 And then shall they know their Redeemer, who is Jesus Christ, the Son of God; and then shall they be gathered in from the four quarters of the earth unto their own lands, from whence they have been dispersed; yea, as the Lord liveth so shall it be. Amen.

(Book of Mormon, 3 Nephi 5:24-26.)

[12/19/14]   "Behold, I am the law, and the light. Look unto me, and endure to the end, and ye shall live; for unto him that endureth to the end will I give eternal life." (Book of Mormon, 3 Nephi 15:9.)

[11/21/14]   "For the eternal purposes of the Lord shall roll on, until all his promises shall be fulfilled." (Mormon 8:22, Book of Mormon.)

[10/02/14]   2 I say unto thee, my son, that the plan of restoration is requisite with the justice of God; for it is requisite that all things should be restored to their proper order. Behold, it is requisite and just, according to the power and resurrection of Christ, that the soul of man should be restored to its body, and that every part of the body should be restored to itself.

3 And it is requisite with the justice of God that men should be judged according to their works; and if their works were good in this life, and the desires of their hearts were good, that they should also, at the last day, be restored unto that which is good. (Book of Mormon, Alma 41:2-3.)
