The Episcopal Church

We will not cease, and we will not give up until this world reflects less our nightmare and more God’s dream where there’s plenty good room for all God’s children.

Hallelujah anyhow.

[04/04/21]   Holy Saturday
Leave your prayer requests below⬇️

“How holy is this night, when wickedness is put to flight, and sin is washed away.
.
It restores innocence to the fallen, and joy to those who mourn.
.
It casts out pride and hatred, and brings peace and concord.
.
How blessed is this night, when earth and heaven are joined and man is reconciled to God.
.
Holy Father, accept our evening sacrifice, the offering of this candle in your honor. May it shine continually to drive away all darkness.
.
May Christ, the Morning Star who knows no
setting, find it ever burning--he who gives his light to all
creation, and who lives and reigns for ever and ever. Amen.”

Alleluia Ministry Testimonial
Guided by the wisdom and foresight of Archdeacon Holly Hanback, the Alleluia Ministry represents a special collaboration between St Gabriel’s in Leesburg and St David’s in Ashburn. It is a work of charity, mercy and justice for the families who participate in and depend on the program, as well as for the volunteers who provide, prepare and deliver the food and household items for each of these families.
As we’ve seen throughout this pandemic, too often the people most in need, who are impacted the most, work in service industries and cannot work from home, cannot find affordable child care while schools are closed, have few resources to carry them through the financial impact of the pandemic and who may be more likely to suffer from covid 19.
The Alleluia Ministry is a life line for our brothers and sisters at St Gabriel’s and provides a concrete and vital opportunity for both congregations, together, to carry out the mission of the Christ who sends us forth as his hands and heart to offer care and comfort to his people. We all share this ministry, both volunteers and participants.

What have you learned by heart? A childhood rhyme, a song, a poem? When we say we’ve learned something ‘by heart’, we mean we’ve committed it to memory. We don’t need to read it or be reminded, we know it, deep down.

God said, through the prophet Jeremiah, ‘I will write my covenant on your hearts. I will be your God, and you will be my people.’ With these words God moved from requiring adherence to laws, to abiding relationship. This covenant is permanent; like a tattoo or brand, it’s in our hearts to stay, whether we are faithful or, as is often the case, we are not. God is at the center of our intellects, our emotions, our wills.

What has God written on your heart? What essential messages have entwined themselves into your essence and determine how you think, speak and act? Rest assured that God’s promise of presence and unconditional love are at the heart of you, whether you feel it or not, no matter how far apart you feel. God claims you and knows you by name. Claim this truth deep in your heart.

Blessings,
Mary Kay

In Holy Week, we accompany Jesus to the cross. Who are you in the story?

✝️ Are you one who lays their coat on the ground, shouting Hosanna, as he rides a c**t into the city?

✝️ Perhaps you are Peter, caught between your love for Jesus and your fear for yourself.

✝️ Or one of the women who has supported Jesus’ ministry financially and now wonder where it’s all headed.

✝️ Are you Mary at the foot of the cross, broken with grief, or one of the disciples, afraid and in hiding?

✝️ Are you Mary Magdalen proclaiming sight of the risen Jesus or are you on the road to Emmaus when the resurrected Jesus appears and breaks open the scriptures?

Who are you in the journey?
