Start Well A Fellows Program is an intensely practical nine to ten month spiritual and vocational leadership program that prepares you to live a seamless life of faith.

The program includes a part-time professional job in your field of interest, theological coursework, Biblical study, mentoring and service. All of this takes place in community with the other Fellows in your class. This leadership development program will equip you to have a thoughtful impact in the world. By participating in a Fellows Program, you will discern how your story fits into God's story. You will start your post-college years with a strong foundation for a cohesive life of faith—a full life that seamlessly weaves together your career, your personal life and your place in God's story. You'll begin to answer some of life's most important questions: How do you think "Christianly" about work, culture, friendships and experiences? The Fellows Initiative (TFI) promotes the understanding that all of life is ministry by helping to establish and nurture Fellows Programs in local churches across the country. Governed by a Board of Directors, TFI ensures that the essential components of Fellows Programs are in place. Each local program is committed to the same core principles and has essential components. Yet because of their diverse nature, each Fellows Program offers something unique. TFI plans conferences and retreats for all Fellows to participate in. TFI promotes community among Fellows Program leadership across the country for mutual prayer and practical support.

Mission: The Fellows Initiative (TFI) provides support to existing Fellows Programs and helps new programs to begin and flourish. Our goal is to establish excellent Fellows Programs, inspiring young postgraduate students all over the United States to live whole, Christ-centered lives. TFI is committed to fostering and encouraging locally run Fellows Programs that prepare tomorrow’s leaders to live faithfully and to be thoughtful agents of God’s goodness, beauty and truth in the Church and the world by: Exploring an all-encompassing faith, Nurturing a heart for the Church, and Awakening a hunger to engage the culture. Fellows programs are concerned with cultivating a person who is on a lifelong journey to live faithfully in the Church and in the world. The essence and expression of a particular Fellows Program is much broader and more far reaching than a church-based internship program. Though some Fellows Programs have Fellows who have as their work component a youth ministry or pastoral internship, Fellows Programs are not directly or primarily purposed with providing training for future church staff positions. Many Fellow Programs include a significant church service component and many Fellows Program graduates feel called to join church staffs or pursue a seminary degree or go “on the mission field.” But, to be clear, the vision for individual Fellows Programs, and for The Fellows Initiative as a whole, is to prepare and equip the next generation of leaders to embrace the Church and engage God’s world in their God-given work as lawyers, doctors, bankers, homemakers, artists, pastors, journalists, engineers, athletes, entrepreneurs, and in all work and vocational expression.

Jesus Made Known through a Host Family

Welcome back to the TFI blog! This month we are featuring an integral component of the fellows experience: host families! Hear from a former fellow reflect on living with a host family from the church and the unique perspective this provides. by Sarah Dodson The host family element of a fellows program can be a daunting concept, on both ends. Will I be able to truly rest in a stranger’s home? Will my home be restful with a stranger in it? Will I eventually come to feel like a friend rather than a stranger? Will he or she be a good “f...

Repost • @saltlakefellows "The Lord will fight for you, you need only to be still." Exodus 14:14
We are a constantly striving people. Even social distancing and quarantine cannot quench our desire to busy ourselves relentlessly with anything. Perhaps we can learn to slow down, to pray, to be still. In a season where our time with others in community is limited we have the opportunity to witness to and reflect God's character through our REST. Our rest in the midst of trouble proclaims our reliance, our dependence, and our trust in the God who holds the future.

Do we believe God is King? That he sits on the throne? Let's be a people of rest. Our rest allows us to stop solving, stop striving and stop fixing as a means to survive. In the King's economy we rest in his providence, while a weary world watches and wonders why we aren't as frantic.

God, help us to be a people of faith, hope and love in a time of doubt, fear and self-reliance. "On Christ the solid rock I stand all other ground is shaking sand."

Jay McCabe, Director of the Virginia Beach Fellows program, shares his vision for the newest installation of fellows in this week’s blog: “Our greatest hope is that each of the Virginia Beach Fellows would have a deeper sense of who they are in the Lord,’” McCabe says. To that end, spiritual formation will be a central focus for Virginia Beach Fellows. Each one will have the opportunity to better engage their own story and develop spiritual practices through the program’s coursework as they grow in their faith.”

They also share a passion for the broader mission of equipping the church to impact the world around us.”
