We've got such a glorious variety of worship opportunities this month, starting with tomorrow morning at 10am at Laurel Hill Shelter B (8780 Lorton Rd.)

It looks like there will be a break in the rain tomorrow just for us! The forecast keeps looking better. Plus, even if a drizzle, we're under cover the whole time! Rain 💦 or shine ☀️ friends!

Two extra special things for tomorrow:

1) Tie-dye Sunday: Bring a white shirt and we'll provide all the supplies and instructions for making yourself some Kingstowne logoed tie-dye swag.

2) Hotdog Lunch: Stay after worship for lunch and make a donation to our youth mission project, raising $$ to paint Rising Hope's fellowship hall for meals this fall.

We'd love to see you! 💓

We extended the communion table today all the way to Paradise Springs Winery, Virginia.

Did you hear that WE'RE MOVING?!

As of Sunday, September 12th, we will start gathering on 2nd and 4th Sundays at 10am at Hayfield Secondary School's middle school meeting room.

You'll access the school from the entrance on Old Telegraph, walk in through these doors into the lobby and proceed through the first door on your left into this beautiful new space.

Today we got a peek inside, and we're so excited for the partnership ahead with Hayfield Secondary School PTSA and their amazing staff, especially with Anita who was so gracious and informative today. What a great host!

Look out for more info in the coming weeks!

"It is right, and a good and joyful thing, always and everywhere (especially at a winery) to give thanks to you, Father Almighty, creator of heaven and earth."

What a beautiful day to break bread and share wine together at Paradise Springs Winery, Virginia and, of course, to listen to Izzie (pictured here) tell endless stories about trees and her adventures in and under them.

Please join us in congratulating our own Alyssa Densham on being licensed as a local pastor yesterday! This is the culmination of her call, ministry, and mentorship at Kingstowne. This is the work of a vital church that is always sending people out. Kingstowne, you should be proud!

• • •

WHAT DOES THIS MEAN?!

It means that she has been approved to serve a congregation in pastoral ministry in word and sacrament while she finishes her last year of seminary.

• • •

GUESS WHAT THIS MEANS FOR US?!

Usually, when someone is licensed, they are appointed at a new congregation, but that would mean that she would have to leave us.

If you haven't heard yet, we have been given the amazing and unusual gift of getting to keep her for one more year as her part-time role at Kingstowne transitions from Director of Family Ministries to Associate Pastor of Discipleship effective July 1, 2021.

Yes, she will leave us eventually upon completing seminary for full-time ministry next summer. It's important that she does! But will you celebrate with us that her gifts will be used here at Kingstowne for one more year, as she serves more broadly to help us anticipate what fruitful ministry in a post-pandemic world looks like and help us move into our next phase of integrated discipleship for all ages.

• • •

We are so blessed! Give her some love, will you?! 💖🎉🙌🏽

This afternoon, we had our first IN-PERSON Youth on the Move meeting since February 2020 🙌🏼

In two teams, our youth participated in a scavenger hunt on Chessie’s Trail at Lee District Park. Their responses were amazing and the conversation was phenomenal! Our youth think deeply about who God is and after that fun, they turned their attention to who God is calling them to be. We’re dreaming big dreams here at Kingstowne! If you have a child who age 10+, we’d love to have them join us. Email [email protected] for more information!

A Prayer for the Last Day of School

• • • • •

At the end of this school year,
we give thanks to God:
For all the teaching and learning
that has taken place in our school,
both in and out of the classroom,
For the talents and gifts
that have been shared
and the challenges that have been faced;
For the burdens that have been lifted
and the hurts that have been healed;
For the respect and care that has been given.

We give thanks for the friendships
that have just begun
and for those that have grown.
For the faith that has been lived
in our daily struggles,
For the hope that has lifted our hearts
on the dark days,
And for the love that has kept us going.

We give thanks for the community
that we are, and we ask that your Spirit, Lord,
may inspire our students and teachers
with confidence and calmness.
Bless our families as we take our holidays,
may our time together leave us
with memories to cherish.
Pour out your love on us
that we may return renewed and refreshed
to continue our journey together.
We make this prayer
through Christ our Lord.
Amen.

Who We Are

The Kingstowne Communion is a new United Methodist Church existing to gather people into communion with Jesus Christ through courageous conversation, creative community, and collaborating for the common good. We worship on Sundays at 10am at Island Creek Elementary School (7855 Morning View Lane)

“The table is one of the most intimate places in our lives. It is there that we give ourselves to one another. When we say, 'Take some more, let me serve you another plate, let me pour you another glass, don’t be shy, enjoy it,' we say a lot more than our words express. We invite our friends to become part of our lives. We want them to be nurtured by the same food and drink that nurture us. We desire communion…Strange as it may sound, the table is the place where we want to become food for one another. Every breakfast, lunch, or dinner can become a time of growing communion with one another.” - Henri Nouwen
