[02/17/21]   Holy Chow delivers tonight (Wednesday) and they want more orders. Give them a call today!

[01/31/21]   Please join the Agudas Achim Congregation Men’s Club this Sunday, February 7 at 1 p.m EST for a special conversation with Dina Kraft, a Tel Aviv-based journalist and podcaster for Hadassah.

Dina’s award-winning reporting offers a glimpse into the everyday lives of Jews and Arabs in Israel who are forging meaningful relationships. She shines a light on the stories of people living the example of a shared society even though it’s complicated.

Given that it will be Super Bowl Sunday, Dina will share an Israeli ”football” story — the tale of an Arab team that includes several Jews as staff and players.

She will also provide an update on Israel's aggressive coronavirus vaccination campaign, which has received global attention for its rapid success even as it sometimes struggles to reach members of Israel’s Haredi and Arab communities.

I hope you will join us for this interesting and enlightening session!

Take Action 01/19/2021

Take Action

“Life’s most persistent and urgent question is, ‘What are you doing for others?’ ”
— Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

This year for MLK Day of Service 2021, Agudas Achim’s Social Action Committee and Chaya Silver, Agudas Achim’s Education Director, came together to organize a community service project that would engage the entire community while keeping everyone safe and socially distant. Thus, the Agudas Achim MLK DAY OF SERVICE - Power Pack Program (P3) was born. Food for Other’s Power Pack Program provides food to children who do not have enough to eat over the weekend.

On January 18, more than 94 members of our Kehilla Kedoshah (sacred community), along with our friends, neighbors and partners from the Alfred Street Baptist Church Social Justice Ministry, the Sisterhood of Salaam Shalom Arlington Chapter, neighbors, and the Burgundy Farms Seventh Grade families donated more than 1,300 Power Packs!
Thank You!

Thank you to our whole congregation for your generosity and a huge thank you to our amazing teens and adult volunteers. We could not have done this without your help. Because of you, Agudas Achim’s MLK Day of Service 2021 was a huge success! By the numbers….

1,300 Power Packs
13 Teens
11 Adult volunteers
11 Cars Filled

Many thanks to the extraordinary team of Teen volunteers: Abby Altenberg, Akiva Dienstfrey, Evan Fagen, Jeremy Fagen, Rahm Fishman, Max Foor, Shira Goldstein, Maya Kaminski, Shoshana Levy, Jacob Sanchez, Juliana Sanchez, Lisa Swers, and Ben Wilson.

The fantastic cadre of adult volunteers: Larry Altenberg, Doug Fagen, Jeff Goldstein, Bekah Hersch, Amy Kaminski, Michael Quint, Arden Levy, Esther Miller, Joan Hartman Moore, Suzy Smith, and Samara Weinstein

Finally, we so appreciate the help and support of Agudas Achim’s Staff, particularly Chaya Silver, Harriet Vorona, Barry Nove, Rachel Goldberg, Yasmin Drescher and KB Mawunya-Yawson.

Today we fed more than 1,000 children for one weekend; however, the need continues. Please take action to help reduce food insecurity. Visit MAZON, the Jewish community’s response to hunger to learn more, https://mazon.org/take-action.

Take Action There are many ways. You can support one of our advocacy campaigns. You can use our activities and educational materials. You can donate in honor of your simcha or fundraise on our behalf. Together, we can transform how it is, into how it should be.

Join us at 7pm TODAY, December 6, for an discussion of Virginia politics, racial justice issues, and the upcoming policies and politics facing Virginia in 2021.

Although the 2020 elections in the United States are (mostly) over, Virginians vote again in just a few months. Meanwhile, the pandemic, economic crisis, and calls for racial justice have triggered urgent conversations and a special legislative session in Richmond. To make sense of what happened — and what's next — the Agudas Achim Men’s Club and Social Action Committee are hosting a special Zoom-only post-election conversation. Join us to better understand Virginia’s new criminal justice reforms, what we learned from the November elections, and what’s coming up in 2021. Speakers will include Virginia Sen. Scott Surovell (D-Fairfax), Alexandria Councilman Mohamed E. "Mo" Seifeldein, and Bob Holsworth, political commentator at WTVR-TV in Richmond.

StepALIVE!

Team Quigberg (Rachel Goldberg and Bryan Quigley and family) is participating in the 39th annual StepALIVE! Virtual Walkathon next weekend in support of ALIVE! and its programs. For over 50 years, ALIVE! has worked to help vulnerable Alexandrians, providing food, shelter, and emergency financial assistance to those in need. The funds raised by StepALIVE! this year will allow ALIVE! to continue providing these basic supports to those who struggle under the best of circumstances but whose struggle has been made all the more difficult by COVID-19 as well as helping those who may be facing hardship for the first time.

Get involved in this event and join us on our team, Team Quigberg! Together, we can raise so much while having a great time! We’re planning to walk 5 miles.

Please join us or sponsor us. Find out more on the event and sign up to join us or sponsor us, http://stepalivewalk.org/teampage.asp?fundid=1096#.X1UWoy2ZN0s.
