The Open Table Breakfast Ministry is a shared ministry of churches in Old Town Alexandria, which offers a warm meal to the community four days a week.
Operating as usual
Open Table continues to provide a space for breakfast in Old Town. Meals are served Monday, Tuesday, and Friday at Washington Street United Methodist Church, Wednesdays at Old Town Community Church, and Thursdays at Old Presbyterian Meeting House. Though things are being run a bit differently, we are continuing our work of feeding the community a warm breakfast. Thanks to all of our volunteers, and everyone who supports the ministry with your prayers and your gifts!
Homelessness and hunger don’t shut down in a pandemic. Grateful for the community partners who are helping to feed those in need in this season. This morning’s breakfast and lunch sandwiches were prepped by a la Lucia.
[01/20/19] Since the temperatures will be so low tomorrow, Monday, January 21, Washington Street United Methodist Church will keep the building open after breakfast until noon to allow an indoor space to stay out of the cold. Please spread the word.
[11/27/18] Don't forget that breakfast will be served tomorrow morning - Wednesday, November 28 - at Downtown Baptist Church from 6-8am. The church is located at 212 S. Washington Street in Old Town.

Open Table Breakfast Ministry
In 2010, led by the efforts of Rev. Sara Keeling and a team of devoted lay servants, Washington Street UMC (WSUMC) noticed that while there were lunch and dinner opportunities for residents of Alexandria living on the street, there were no drop-in breakfast programs. Led by this realization, WSUMC began offering a hot breakfast in the late summer of 2010. The program has changed some over the years, but continues to serve the same purpose: to provide a hot meal for everyone in the community. The breakfast is available to all - neighbors living on the street, those in affordable housing units, renters, and home owners alike.
Other community members joined in the efforts, and in 2013, one of the members of Old Presbyterian Meeting House (OPMH), who had been helping on Monday mornings, led a team from OPMH to open up a second breakfast on Thursday mornings.
In 2017, a ministry team from Downtown Baptist Church began praying over the possibility of opening a third morning, which came to fruition in January of 2018 when they began serving breakfast on Wednesday mornings.
With an abundance of volunteers, and some additional financial support, WSUMC made the decision to offer a fourth morning of the week, launching breakfast on Friday mornings in October of 2018.
