Dear Children’s Sabbath School Teachers,

I’m the Primary Division Sabbath School leader at the Vienna, Virginia, Seventh-day Adventist church. I’ve been looking for ways to connect and support children’s Sabbath School teachers as well as parents and anyone else interested in discipling children. To further this goal, I’m inviting the Sabbath School teachers in your church to join a special Facebook group where we can all share ideas and encouragement. Pastors, parents, and grandparents are also welcome to join the group.

Yours in Christ,

Sabrina Riley
I hope your excited for this new quarter. We will be studying oneness in Christ. If you didn’t get a chance to pick up a lesson book at church be sure to download the Sabbath School app. Is is an excellent resource! Let’s study and grow in oneness together!

I would like to try something new for P&W...this coming (2nd) Sabbath for 2nd service. I am introducing a new song to you all early for P&W, to give you a chance to listen to it, appreciate the lyrics, and hopefully we all can sing it together. Please allow it to minister to you throughout this week! Please share with others and see you Sabbath!

THIS WEEK’S TOPIC: The New-Covenant Life. This week’s lesson, the final in our series on the covenant, looks at how to enjoy the covenant blessings today, in the here and now, while awaiting the eternal life it promises us in the earth made new. Join us as we discuss what is it about the covenant that should free us from the burden of guilt, what it means to have a new heart, and more! Also, next quarter’s quarterlies are available for pick-up from the designated bins at the church.

JUNE·TEENTH \ ˌjün-ˈtēn(t)th \ Long celebrated in the African American community, Juneteenth marks our country’s second Independence Day. Celebrate freedom!
#emancipationday #juneteenth
•••
On “Freedom’s Eve,” or the eve of January 1, 1863, the first Watch Night services took place. On that night, enslaved and free African Americans gathered in churches and private homes all across the country awaiting news that the Emancipation Proclamation had taken effect. At the stroke of midnight, prayers were answered as all enslaved people in Confederate States were declared legally free. Union soldiers, many of whom were black, marched onto plantations and across cities in the south reading small copies of the Emancipation Proclamation spreading the news of #freedom in Confederate States. Only through the Thirteenth Amendment did #emancipation end slavery throughout the United States.

But not everyone in Confederate territory would immediately be free. Even though the Emancipation Proclamation was made effective in 1863, it could not be implemented in places still under Confederate control. As a result, in the westernmost Confederate state of Texas, enslaved people would not be free until much later. Freedom finally came on June 19, 1865, when some 2,000 Union troops arrived in #Galveston Bay, Texas. The army announced that the more than 250,000 enslaved black people in the state, were free by executive decree. This day came to be known as "Juneteenth," by the newly freed people in #Texas.

Worship Over Everything (Jun 12)

#ICYMI // Are your preferences taking over the priority of worship? In this conclusion to "The Heart of Worship" sermon series, Pastor Warfield uses the contrast between Martha's and Mary's approach to the Master and what it means for Christians.

THIS WEEK’S TOPIC: Covenant Faith. Next week, we will look at the following questions in relation to covenant faith and what it means: Why must salvation be a gift? Why could only Someone equal with God ransom our souls? What makes Abraham such a good representative of #faith? What does it mean that righteousness is “imputed” or “credited” to us? How can we make the promises and hope found in the Cross our own? Join us for what promises to be an insightful discussion!

Worship Built on Trust (June 5)

#ICYMI // In this third part of "The Heart of Worship" sermon series, Pastor Warfield uses King Saul as an example of what happens when we try to do the right thing out of fear and not faith; when we are driven by perception of people rather than the divine purpose fo God.
