Russell M. Nelson

Tonight, December 21, is the winter solstice, regarded in many traditions as the darkest and longest night of the year. How fitting that astronomers and scientists are predicting tonight’s appearance of a “Christmas star,” formed by the great conjunction of Saturn and Jupiter, a rare event not seen in nearly 400 years.

While we don’t need to ascribe any special meaning to the actual phenomenon, tonight’s Christmas star will undoubtedly draw our minds and hearts to the original star that appeared in the heavens to mark the birth of our Savior Jesus Christ. For the shepherds in Judea, for the Wise Men, and for the believers in the New World, the star brought more than mere physical light—it brought hope.

My dear friends, as we near the end of a challenging year, one that may feel to many as a time of uncertainty and darkness, let us never forget that the light of hope still shines brightly. Jesus Christ is the light, the life, and the hope of the world. As we turn our hearts to Him, He will pour out His love for us in unmeasured ways. I wish you all a very merry and hope-filled Christmas season. #LightTheWorld

[11/01/20]   Final numbers for October 2020 Indexing.
WOW, what a month! The number of records indexed during the month of October are 11607 records. This is an increase of 6149 indexed records over September indexed records of 5458. The Natchitoches Ward indexed - 6098 records, Alexandria Ward indexed - 1712 records, Natchez Ward indexed - 1835 records. And we have a new rising star - Leesville Ward indexed 1962 records. The other wards/branch had no indexing activity. In addition to the number of records indexed during October - 2533 records were reviewed. This was accomplished by only 16 members of the Alexandria Louisiana Stake . Remember the Natchez Ward accomplished their goal with just two members indexing. What could be accomplished if we had 25, 30 or even 50 members indexing a few records each month? We really need your assistance. Indexing makes records more accessible to individuals who are searching for their ancestors. Please give an hour this afternoon to index a few records. If it is only one batch. Congratulations again to the Natchez Ward for winning the challenge! As always if you need my assistance, please call me at 318-542-1899.
Thank you.

[11/01/20]   The winner of the October Challenge between the Alexandria Ward and the Natchez Ward is official. The Natchez Ward won! They indexed 1835 records compared to the Alexandria Ward that indexed 1712 records. What an achievement for both wards! What makes this more remarkable is that only two members were indexing in the Natchez Ward and 6 members were indexing in the Alexandria Ward. In September the Alexandria Ward indexed a total of 400 records and the Natchez Ward indexed a total of 313 records. Congratulations to the Natchez Ward! And thank you to each indexer.

[10/31/20]   A quick update on the Indexing Challenge between the Natchez Ward and Alexandria Ward. Natchez has indexed 1835 records and Alexandria has indexed 1683. Thank you to all who have been indexing.

[10/23/20]   Update on the progress of the Alexandria Ward and Natchez Ward Indexing Challenge. At the moment Natchez Ward is in the lead with 1021 indexed records, but the Alexandria Ward is on their heels with 933 records indexed. Don't just sit and cheer for your ward. Jump in and index some records which will help your ward win this challenge. Only a few days left in this month. Of course everyone receive the benefits when records are indexed.
If you need help or have questions, please call me. 318-542-1899.

[10/19/20]   With 13 days to go until the end of October, here is an update on the present results of the indexing challenge between the Natchez Ward and Alexandria Ward. Natchez Ward has pulled ahead of the Alexandria Ward by 328 indexed records. Alexandria Ward needs help to increase their numbers. Come on members in the Alexandria Ward. Get to indexing and give the Natchez Ward some competition. The two indexers in the Natchez Ward are doing an exceptional job. Just think what they could accomplish if they had more members helping them.
This is the Lord’s work - a turning of “the heart of the fathers to the children, and the heart of the children to their fathers.” (Mal. 4:6.). Indexing is essential to making the world's records searchable. FamilySearch indexing is a volunteer transcription effort that makes valuable genealogical records freely searchable online.
And we need your help with this worthwhile project.
As always, please call me if you need help – 318-542-1899.

The Natchitoches Ward indexed - 4745 records, Alexandria Ward indexed - 400 records, Natchez Ward indexed - 313 records. The other wards/branches had no indexing activity. One brother in the Natchez Ward indexed all of the 313 records in September. And he has throw out a challenge to the Alexandria Ward that the Natchez Ward is going to exceed Alexandria Ward's monthly indexing. Alexandria Ward are you up for the challenge? Natchez Ward are you going to help this brother with his challenge?
