Please review & edit my flyer for Open House, 12/13/19, attached.
I made initial contact with Koininia & will follow up with them.
Steve & I though it would be good idea to invite Koinonia & take up Christmas donation for them.
Peace and joy to you today!
A gift appeared in our inbox today from Gratefulness.org, and here it is for you, too:

From Which It All Began

Tell me, what
would you do today
if you knew your life
to be a celebration
of this world?

Would you stop
to gather sunlight
dropping soundlessly
upon pines
beyond your window pane?

Would you court
dreams too wide
for the container
of consciousness?

Would you linger
in the terrible beauty
of uncertainty
as if the fullness of the world
depended upon your presence?

Would you cast your hopes
upon possibilities that abide
only in departure?

Would you become the motion
of your song,
losing itself in overtones
of delight
or despair
and returning, finally,
to the stillness
from which it all began?
— Bernadette Miller
The flowers are blooming in the beautiful historic chapel where we worship. Come join us on Sunday, Mother’s Day, to celebrate YOUR mother, or someone who is or was a mother to you. Share a little love, it feels so good!

Eternal God, in whose perfect kingdom no sword is drawn but the sword of righteousness, no strength known but the strength of love: So mightily spread abroad your Spirit, that all peoples may be gathered under the banner of the Prince of Peace, as children of one Father; to whom be dominion and glory, now and for ever. Amen.
Prayer for Peace, BCP p. 815

O God, you made us in your own image and redeemed us through Jesus your Son: Look with compassion on the whole human family; take away the arrogance and hatred which infect our hearts; break down the walls that separate us; unite us in bonds of love; and work through our struggle and confusion to accomplish your purposes on earth; that, in your good time, all nations and races may serve you in harmony around your heavenly throne; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
Prayer for the Human Family, BCP p. 815

Greetings, everyone! COTS is still thriving, worshiping online (no in-person worship for now). We have joined hands with four other Episcopal congregations for this time, which means more voices and more variety. Please join us!

You can come to our Zoom worship at 10am Eastern time every Sunday, followed by coffee hour at 11am. We'd be thrilled to have you!

Our Zoom worship is filled with music, happy faces, familiar voices, great preaching from six talented clergy folk, and the warmth of just being together in real time.

You can call in using the phone numbers below, or simply click the Zoom link to join on a computer, tablet, or smartphone. We hope you join us. Meantime, may God's blessing fill you with hope, courage, and good health.

[05/09/20]   “Since much of life keeps killing us, we need Jesus’ resurrection power in order to face tomorrow. Resurrection comes small like seeds and leaven. One little word of encouragement, one affirmation, perhaps evoking one smile or laugh. One little gift can change us.”
—Brother Luke Ditewig

[05/04/20]   Hello Friends,
Here is a thoughtful piece from Richard Rohr, and it talks about following Jesus in creating community wherever we are. Enjoy!

“The secret to community lies in the way we let other people get through to us and the way we move out of ourselves. This is, of course, the mystery of spirituality, of vulnerability, and powerlessness. When a person on a serious inner journey to their own vulnerability is also in immediate contact with the vulnerable of the world, then some form of community will almost always result.

Without an interior life and a love of justice, most communities just serve themselves. We who live in the United States have to look out for this in particular. We’re rather narcissistic as individuals and as a society, always looking out for “Number One,” whether it’s our self, our child, our church, our race, or our political party. But that is clearly not the kind of community Jesus created! He was always moving beyond the boundaries of his own kinship circles.”

How will you share yourself today?
Blessings, love, courage, and peace to you from God in Jesus Christ!

Hi there, Church of the Spirit friends! Here are a couple of mighty fine midweek offerings to engage your spiritual side through your love of music, and through engagement with Scripture. Sound good? Zoom on in to these: Choir Connect Wednesdays from 6:30-7:30 pm, and Women's Bible Study Thursdays from 10-11am. Details:
Choir anyone? Or Bible Study?
Are you interested in music? Like to sing? Or, just looking for something very interesting on a Wednesday night with your fellow Sunday worshippers? TONIGHT come to Choir Connect! Here's a description:
\
Choir Connect--Wednesday from 6:30pm - 7:30pm
Weekly Virtual "Music and Liturgy Formation" Open to All!
Wednesdays 6:30-7:30 pm via Zoom Stream

No performance expectation whatsoever!

In our New (but temporary) Normal, we are transforming what might have previously been our dedicated weekly "choir rehearsal" time into, instead, Music and Liturgy Formation. The shape of these weekly connection points will vary, and we'll try different ideas and formats to see what clicks. This is open to all within our "P5" partner parishes. All ages, shapes, sizes, colors, backgrounds, experiences FULLY EMBRACED and welcomed!

Some highlights:

A featured musical guest/singer/musician from among our P5 group, and even "outside" friends
A featured speaker on any number of varying topics...liturgy, vocal pedagogy, music history, music appreciation, what "liturgy" and "music" mean when it comes to being Episcopalian, how music came to be in the liturgy (a relatively recent phenomenon across Christian history), and so much more for us to explore!
Opportunities to ask questions, actively participate in your own formation, and suggest topics of interest for future sessions
Opportunities to make new friends from across the P5 group - especially important!
Input into helping decide how we transition into yet another New Normal with liturgy and music when we are no longer quarantined (...it won't be the way we used to do it...)
Whatever else the Spirit rattles within us!
And, in particular, TONIGHT's agenda?

Welcome, Introductions, Purpose/Aspirations for these meetings
Musical Offering - Keyboard: Quinten Clay
Devotional - Karen Peterson
Guest Presentation - A Brief History of Music in the African-American Church
D. Damien Trejo-Jones, Philadelphia-based music educator and Episcopal musician
Q&A/Discussion based on Damien's presentation
Review of Sunday's upcoming music:
Hymn 205, vv. 1, 3, 5 Good Christians all, rejoice and sing (organ)
Hymn 204, vv. 1,3 Now the green blade riseth (offered by Kate Cadaret)
Hymn 296 We know that Christ is raised and dies no more (organ)
YouTube "Organ Crawl" from Washington National Cathedral (time permitting)

Worship & News for April 19, 2020
Dear friends of COTS,
Happy Easter to all! Christ has risen from the grave, opening the way to eternal life for all who believe in Jesus. This is good news we can count on, news that brings God's love for each and every one of us into bright clarity. And we need that right now!

I have heard from some of you, and hope to hear from all of you, about how you are coping during this time of pandemic and restricted activity. And, I hope you are all keeping in touch with each other! We have a loving and supportive community and it's important, now more than ever, that we reach out to encourage each other. So let's keep doing that!

May God bless and keep you, shine His face upon you and be merciful to you, may God lift up His countenance upon you and give you peace. See you soon! Corry+

[04/05/20]   To all COTS worshippers: Because of its security difficulties of late, Zoom has added mandatory passwords to all meetings. But not to worry, y'all! I just have sent new invitation links to our worship and post-worship "virtual coffee hour" to you on our blast email service.

So check your email for the new link and you'll be good to come to worship. If you have trouble, call or text me or another COTS member and surely, together we will be able to get on the Zoom call. God bless you!

Video Conferencing, Web Conferencing, Webinars, Screen Sharing

Hey there, Church of the Spirit!

Let's stay together at home ... using Zoom teleconference to worship, meet, and chat.

My dear COTS friends, beloved of God: I hope and pray that all of you, in this time of anxiety and separation, are staying healthy and keeping your spirits up, though I know that is hard to do these days. I am praying for you every day and trying to connect with you, on calls, emails, and in worship and post-worship chats. Please don't hesitate to email or call me (address and number in our weekly email I just sent) to ask for prayers, to ask for help, or just to chat. I am here for you, I love you, and I pray that you know Jesus Christ is always with you in the Holy Spirit.

ZOOM into Holy Week!

Holy Week begins on Sunday, April 5th, and continues through Easter Day on April 12th. We won't be able to worship together in person, but we can still see and hear each other when we gather on Zoom teleconference. Do give it a try, it's fun and deeply moving to be able to get together this way.

Here is a link to join a "test" meeting: https://zoom.us/test. Click it, or copy and paste it into your browser. Give it a try!

Before our Maundy Thursday service during Holy Week you are invited to remember the commandment that Christ gives us by participating in an act of service. Perhaps that is washing the feet of those in your family or participating in an act of service to those around you, those in our community, in our world. Where is God calling you to serve today?
