[05/23/21]   At Pentecost, Simon urges the crowd to repent and be baptized. After today's sermon, I invite you to join us in confession, using the traditional confession of the UMC:

Most merciful God, we confess that we have sinned against you
in thought, word, and deed,
by what we have done, and by what we have left undone.
We have not loved you with our whole heart;
we have not loved our neighbors as ourselves.
We are truly sorry and we humbly repent.
For the sake of your Son Jesus Christ, have mercy on us and forgive us;
that we may delight in your will, and walk in your ways,
to the glory of your name. Amen.

Almighty God have mercy on you,
forgive all your sins through our Lord Jesus Christ,
strengthen you in all goodness,
and by the power of the Holy Spirit keep you in eternal life. Amen.

[05/09/21]   After today's sermon, I invite you to join in professing our faith, using the Nicene Creed, which has more of a focus on the Holy Spirit than the Apostle's Creed. Peace be with you,
Pastor Jon

We believe in one God,
the Father, the Almighty,
maker of heaven and earth,
of all that is, seen and unseen.
We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ,
the only Son of God,
eternally begotten of the Father,
God from God, Light from Light,
true God from true God,
begotten, not made,
of one Being with the Father;
through him all things were made.
For us and for our salvation
he came down from heaven,
was incarnate of the Holy Spirit and the Virgin Mary
and became truly human.
For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate;
he suffered death and was buried.
On the third day he rose again
in accordance with the Scriptures;
he ascended into heaven
and is seated at the right hand of the Father.
He will come again in glory
to judge the living and the dead,
and his kingdom will have no end.
We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life,
who proceeds from the Father and the Son,
who with the Father and the Son
is worshiped and glorified,
who has spoken through the prophets.
We believe in one holy catholic* and apostolic church.
We acknowledge one baptism
for the forgiveness of sins.
We look for the resurrection of the dead,
and the life of the world to come. Amen.

[04/25/21]   I talk about Psalm 23 in today's sermon ... here's the ESV translation that I referenced:

The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want.
He makes me lie down in green pastures.
He leads me beside still waters.
He restores my soul.
He leads me in paths of righteousness
for his name’s sake.

Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death,
I will fear no evil,
for you are with me;
your rod and your staff,
they comfort me.

You prepare a table before me
In the presence of my enemies;
you anoint my head with oil;
my cup overflows.
Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me
all the days of my life,
and I shall dwell in the house of the LORD
forever.

Peace be with you,
Pastor Jon

[04/18/21]   In today's sermon, I suggest paraphrasing the Lord's Prayer to go beyond a recitation and tune our hearts to God's will. It's easier for me when I can read it; here's the familiar text:

Our Father,
who art in Heaven,
hallowed by thy name.
Thy kingdom come,
thy will be done
on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our trespasses,
as we forgive those who trespass against us.
And lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil.
For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory,
forever. Amen.

[02/14/21]   Aldie Family,

As many of you know, our church changed its worship time a number of years ago from 10am to 11am. At the time, a key factor in the schedule was that our pastor was preaching at multiple churches and balancing worship times accordingly.

For nearly five years, we’ve been blessed to have our own dedicated pastor and we’re looking forward to continuing that tradition after Pastor Rick departs.

As we prepare to replace our aging wood sign out front, this is an appropriate time to revisit our worship time, which is painted on the sign. Many of our members preferred the 10am worship slot, and we would welcome feedback from anyone with a preference either way. We’re not ready to open our doors to in-person worship just yet, but we want to enlist your input for the future of our church (and the sign out front).

Feel free to comment below or send us a message on what worship time your family would prefer. If there’s a change to be made, we want to make it as one church community. Thank you for your input!
