From the Pastor from this weeks bulletin.

SPIRITUAL COMMUNION During this prolonged Eucharistic fast, it is helpful for us to reflect on the value of a Spiritual Communion. Frequent Holy Communions is a relatively recent development in Church history as it came about under Pope St. Pius X who reigned from 1903 to 1914. Most of your favorite saints did not receive Holy Communion every Sunday. For example, St. Louis IX received Holy Communion only six times a year, which was considered frequent in the 13th Century. Though attendance at Sunday Mass was required as weekly worship and adoration on the Lord’s Day, Communion was reserved for special times of the year with the Sacrament of Penance having been received just prior. Therefore, making a Spiritual Communion was developed for all the faithful. Spiritual Communion is a yearning desire to receive Our Blessed Lord, making acts of sorrow for sin, along with prayers of gratitude for God’s mercy and petition for the grace to receive Our Lord into our hearts spiritually. St. Juliana Falconieri, foundress of the Servants of Mary, was afflicted with a stomach ailment which prevented her from taking Viaticum, which is the final Communion, as she was dying. Instead, the Blessed Sacrament was placed upon her chest over a corporal, the cloth used on the altar for the Eucharistic Prayer. Upon her death, the sisters noticed a cross had formed upon St. Juliana’s chest similar to the one on the host. Oh that we too would long for Jesus to enter into our hearts through Spiritual Communions as fervent as St. Juliana’s. Then we could truly say, “Lord, I am not worthy that You should enter under my roof, but only say the word and my soul shall be healed.” Give thanks to the Lord for his love will surely endure in our hearts until we all meet again at the altar and just as surely until the end of time for his mercy endures forever!

Our Lady of Peace | Nuestra Señora de la Paz is recognized by several titles. Our Lady of the Assumption was the original title of Our Lady who came to us from Spain in the 1600s and for many years was known as La Conquistadora. In 1992, Archbishop Robert Sanchez added the name Our Lady of Peace. In 2017, Archbishop John C. Wester confirmed Our Lady’s official archdiocesan title, to whom the archdiocese is dedicated, to Our Lady of Peace | Nuestra Señora de la Paz. At the General Audience on the 50th Earth Day, Pope Francis calls for an ecological conversion to lead us to a deeper love for our common home and our brothers and sisters.

This beautiful prayer was created for us by our own Diane Mooney. Enjoy using it today - or any day!

Earth day prayer

O Merciful Creator,
When you fashioned the world,
The morning stars sang together
And the host of heaven shouted for joy.

O Lord, you work in mysterious ways
To lead us as we walk with you.
We pray that with your guidance
We will extract from our current horrible circumstances
The learnings you planned for us.

We pray that we have the wisdom and strength
To make changes
So that the earth may be healed
To the honor of your glorious Name

Amen
