Let your conversation be gracious and attractive so that you will have the right response for everyone. (NLT) ?
Everyone has different backgrounds, upbringings, and beliefs. Have you ever thought about what kinds of words are attractive to others? Everyone likes to be valued. Everyone likes to be accepted. Everyone likes to be encouraged. Are you weaving these words into difficult conversations with undertones of love? daily devotions
As a dog returns to its vomit, so a fool repeats his foolishness. (NLT) -Proverbs 26:11
Our body vomits when it rejects food. There are habits and behaviors that we form that are not healthy. Even after recognizing the unhealthiness, we still return to those behaviors. A faith with Christ requires us to continually renew and better ourselves. Are there any foolish behaviors you continue to return to even when you have already rejected it?
Think On This
And now, dear brothers and sisters, one final thing. Fix your thoughts on what is true, and honorable, and right, and pure, and lovely, and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise. (NLT) -Philippians 4:8
God prescribes the antidote to the anxiety that permeates the conversations of our culture. Fix our gaze on the beautiful things our God has made. Meditate on truth. Praise Him for the ways He has provided. Perspective is powerful. Don’t let fear and negativity steal the soundness of mind God promises we can have with Him. daily devotions
For God was in Christ, reconciling the world to himself, no longer counting people's sins against them. And he gave us this wonderful message of reconciliation. (NLT) -2 Corinthians 5:19
God is a stranger to sin and it's something He cannot be around. Jesus lived and dues to bring us back to God by taking responsibility for our sin. Our sins are no longer counted against us and we can be in relationship with God! This is a beautiful message of grace, mercy, and forgiveness. When we understand the importance of this message, it's natural to encourage others to embrace the harmony they can have with God. Have you found your personal way of sharing this message with others?
In everything we do, we show that we are true ministers of God. We patiently endure troubles and hardships and calamities of every kind. (NLT) -2 Corinthians 6:4
We know hard times come. The light we can shine to others reveals our faith in God. Our faith can persist even in the face of hardship. It is a demonstration of our trust that the Lord is good. When calamity happens the last thing we want to be is patient. We want to hurry up and move beyond the troubles. This is the time God has been preparing us for and we have the opportunity to grow closer to God. If you are in the middle of calamity, muster your patience one day at a time.
To Be First
He [Jesus] sat down, called the twelve disciples over to him, and said, "Whoever wants to be first must take last place and be the servant of everyone else." (NLT) -Mark 9:35
In the Kingdom of God things don't work like they do here. On earth, we are told you need to use people in order to be successful. Yet, being successful in the Kingdom of God means serving others first. Isn't it true we value leaders the most who think for others, work for everyone, and take risks for those they lead? Actually, each one of us is already a leader among our friends, coworkers, children, and family. How could you be a servant leader among those who follow you? daily devotions
Take no part in the worthless deeds of evil and darkness; instead, expose them. (NLT) -Ephesians 5:11
As we walk daily with the Lord, we begin to see room for improvement in ourselves. When you clearly see sin in your life our natural tendency is to cover it up and hide it from others. Yet, hiding it only makes room for it to flourish. By bringing it out into the open a weight is lifted because you are authentic. Talking openly also invites others to help keep you accountable and allows healing to begin. Do you have anything in your life that needs to be exposed? daily devotion
Therefore, whenever we have the opportunity, we should do good to everyone--especially to those in the family of faith. (NLT) -Galatians 6:10
This verse doesn't talk about just praying for good or pushing others to do good, it says we ourselves should step up and DO good. Maybe this means we take phone calls we don't want, step up and serve a friend in need, or go outside of our comfort zone. Be ready to serve in action when the opportunity comes.
Drift Away church
So we must listen very carefully to the truth we have heard, or we may drift away from it. (NLT) -Hebrews 2:1
As you gain years in your walk with Christ, sometimes the Good News of Jesus Christ doesn't feel like new News. If we aren't careful it becomes easy to drift away to things that may hold more intrigue. Be steadfast in your faith though and listen closely. For God has a unique way of drawing us closer to Him if you are paying attention. daily devotions
Let me now remind you, dear brothers and sisters, of the Good News I preached to you before. You welcomed it then, and you still stand firm in it. It is this Good News that saves you if you continue to believe the message I told you—unless, of course, you believed something that was never true in the first place. I passed on to you what was most important and what had also been passed on to me. Christ died for our sins, just as the Scriptures said. He was buried, and he was raised from the dead on the third day, just as the Scriptures said. (NLT) -Doesn't it seem that bad news is all around us? It's always the top story on the news or the main headline in the paper.
But as believers, we know the best news we could ever hear… and we celebrate it this month.
Easter is the day we celebrate the resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ from the grave. This is the event that conquered sin… it conquered death… and it made it possible for you and me to have a personal relationship with God!
Perhaps, today, this is the first time you've ever heard or understood this Good News.
If so, I want to tell you something: Jesus died on the cross for you. He wore a crown of thorns and was nailed to a tree because He loves you… and He wants to have a personal relationship with you today.
Will you accept this Good News today?
My old self has been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me. So I live in this earthly body by trusting in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me. (NLT) -Galatians 2:20
Have you ever had a difficult time living for Christ? Does it ever feel awkward and forced because you follow a bunch of rules? Try focusing on loving God and letting Him love you. Once you begin to love someone, it's a natural response to want to live for them. Why would it be any different with God? You can only love God when you truly recognize the sacrifice of His selfless love for you.
As God's partners, we beg you not to accept this marvelous gift of God's kindness and then ignore it. (NLT) -2 Corinthians 6:1
It's hard to believe, but we do ignore God's gift. We attend church on Sunday but when Monday rolls around we don't always do a good job of allowing the message to seep into the rest of our days. Think of ways of incorporating God into your day. Write notes on the bathroom mirror, sing hymns while preparing dinner, pray while driving. Don't ignore the kind gift you've been given.
David sang to the Lord the words of this song when the Lord delivered him from the hand of all his enemies and from the hand of Saul. He said: “The Lord is my rock, my fortress and my deliverer; my God is my rock, in whom I take refuge, my shield and the horn of my salvation. He is my stronghold, my refuge and my savior— from violent people you save me.
2 Samuel 22:1-3
Study this Book of Instruction continually. Meditate on it day and night so you will be sure to obey everything written in it. Only then will you prosper and succeed in all you do. This is my command—be strong and courageous! Do not be afraid or discouraged. For the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.”
Why Am I Discouraged
Why am I discouraged? Why is my heart so sad? I will put my hope in God! I will praise him again--my Savior and my God! (NLT) -Psalm 42:5
Do you feel discouraged when you see a loved one in pain but find it difficult to save them? Their pain can be an emotional one stemming from uncertainties or even angst in life. One thing is for sure. It causes a high level of uneasiness in both them and you. It's easy at times to walk away and escape or try very hard to "fix" things. But the truth is that you are not in control and it can be difficult to remember this or even believe this. The right thing to do is to pour them with love and support, not a quick fix. Then, most importantly, pray, pray and pray for God to carry out what is in your heart for your loved one.
God Loves Her
Let your wife be a fountain of blessing for you. Rejoice in the wife of your youth. (NLT) -Proverbs 5:18
Don’t let today escape you. Not because it’s Valentine’s Day but because it’s a day when you are given the privilege to serve your wife. But remember, it is not a day to merely thank her for all that she has done for the family. Regardless of the amount of labor or love, whether it’s been big or small lately, love her dearly and deeply. Love her, not because she deserves it, but because God loves her.
Faith is the confidence that what we hope for will actually happen; it gives us assurance about things we cannot see. (NLT) -Hebrews 11:1
Faith can be simplified to mean trust. It's trusting in God even though you can't see, smell, or touch Him. It's trusting that He loves you and will always have your best interest at heart. Once you believe that He loves you, it becomes easier to place more faith in Him. How are you faithfully trusting in God?
When we tell you these things, we do not use words that come from human wisdom. Instead, we speak words given to us by the Spirit, using the Spirit’s words to explain spiritual truths. But people who aren’t spiritual can’t receive these truths from God’s Spirit. It all sounds foolish to them and they can’t understand it, for only those who are spiritual can understand what the Spirit means.
1 Corinthians 2:13-14
Submit to God, and you will have peace; then things will go well for you. (NLT) -Job 22:21
Do you ever put your hopes into plans and goals? When things don't work out, you end up grieving over the death of a dream. God wants to give us the desires of our hearts, but we first need to turn them over to Him. Only after submitting to Him can He help you rebuild that dream. Then the fun begins!
"Come now, let's settle this," says the Lord. "Though your sins are like scarlet, I will make them as white as snow. Though they are red like crimson, I will make them as white as wool." (NLT) -Isaiah 1:18
Everyone is walking around stained with sins. God has the power to settle it once and for all. No matter how hard we try to fix, ignore, or run away, He alone can wash away the red stains. What sins are you still holding onto? Ask God to cleanse you of your sins today. Then enjoy His grace.
Sweet As Perfume
The heartfelt counsel of a friend is as sweet as perfume and incense. (NLT) -Proverbs 27:9
Friendship can be very powerful. Friends can encourage, inspire, and drive us to become better Christians. They can also provide soothing words in times of distress. If you feel you are lacking this connection with a friend, become intentional and reconnect or seek out a friend. Cultivate a relationship of trust by connecting on a regular basis.
Mend Your Hearts
Christmas is a time of Love and Peace. We as Christians need to extend these same virtues to especially those who have hurt us in the past. Any resentment or unforgiveness toward another person must be personally dealt with God and then no longer carried against that person. Today is the day to mend our hearts and extend the same unconditional Love and Peace as Christ to those who lay heavy on our hearts during this Christmas season.
Jesus at the Cross
Jesus said, “Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing.”
Luke 23:34 NIV
Children of Christ
For if you forgive other people when they sin against you, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. But if you do not forgive others their sins, your Father will not forgive your sins.
This Christmas season is a time to mend our hearts back with God and men. Today is the time, don't carry the baggage any longer, "Make it right!" and receive God's peace and joy back into heart for 2018.
To Pray For
And the Holy Spirit helps us in our weakness. For example, we don't know what God wants us to pray for. But the Holy Spirit prays for us with groaning's that cannot be expressed in words. (NLT) -Romans 8:26
Don't know how to pray or unsure of what to say? Don't worry, just spend time with God and count on the Holy Spirit to pray on your behalf. Talking with God is an important part of a growing spiritual life. Do you forget to pray regularly? Share your thoughts with God while you do a daily habit such as brushing your teeth. This will help jump start your prayer life. Or write down your prayers in a journal to detail out your thoughts.
The Best Model
The Lord is merciful and compassionate, slow to get angry and filled with unfailing love. (NLT) -Psalm 145:8
Who better to model after than our Lord. While we tend to both break and mend our love for one another, God always loves us even when we do wrong. While we get angry and hurt others emotionally, God is slow to get angry. If you could be more like Christ, just imagine how peaceful you would be. Be patient, loving and understanding especially to your loved ones even if they deserve otherwise.
