[03/19/20] Hey church family! During these trying times when we might be feeling increased anxiety, sometimes a bit of historical perspective can be helpful. It was once said to a French king who was contemplating persecuting the church that, "The church of God is an anvil that has worn out many hammers." The people of God have faced many trying times in our history. Our ancestors have faced plagues, famines, persecutions, the fall of empires, the overthrow of society, and the fierceness of rampaging hordes. We have endured through many things, and our Lord and faith have prevailed. In this time, let's remember James 1:2-4. Let's remember that perseverance through many trials works maturity and completeness in us. We are not alone. We have one another and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit. I believe that however this virus works out, the people of God will emerge stronger than ever and will continue as the anvil that wears out all hammers. - Pastor Joe

A LETTER FROM THE ELDERS
Dear Church Family:
We are sorry this is coming late this evening. It took quite a bit of time to contact everyone this plan affects. We want you to know that we are aware of and staying up to date on the developing news surrounding Coronavirus (COVID-19) in New Mexico. This is a top priority for our church family. An order was issued today by New Mexico's health secretary prohibiting large gatherings of more than 100 people. This order listed many exemptions, including places of worship. After much interaction today, we have decided that as of right now we WILL HAVE church on Sunday.
However, in line with CDC recommendations, we are encouraging senior citizens, people with serious chronic medical conditions, and those with weakened immune systems to stay home. If you are experiencing any signs of fever or sickness, please stay home and get better. If you do join us for worship on Sunday, please refrain from shaking hands and/or giving hugs. There are many other ways to greet each other as brothers and sisters in Christ. Kind words and a smile, elbow bump :-), etc. While we will still have church on Sunday, there are some changes we will make:
1. There will be no communion meal this week nor will there be snacks served from the café after the service.
2. There will be no My Message this week and the nursery will be closed. However, the Family Room will be open for use.
3. There will be no communion served this week. We need more time to connect with all who are in the communion prep and service pipeline to make the necessary adjustments. We hope to continue with this in the weeks ahead.
Please know that in addition to the regular scheduled cleaning of our facilities, we are taking proactive measures and implementing additional cleaning and sanitizing of areas that experience high levels of contact. Before Sunday, the door handles and flat surfaces will be disinfected in the areas where we will gather. Also, the doors will be open when you arrive so that no one has to touch the door handles. These extra measures will continue in the weeks ahead, and we will evaluate each week during the Coronavirus outbreak what our plan will be for the upcoming Sunday - and we will continue to communicate with you each week.
We know that some will choose to attend, and some will choose to stay home. We exhort you as brothers and sisters to continue to extend grace, love, and mercy to one another regardless of what each of us choose to do in response to the Coronavirus outbreak. We leave you with these words from the Lord in Isaiah 41:10 "Don’t be afraid, for I am with you. Don’t be discouraged, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you. I will hold you up with my victorious right hand."
We are available to talk with you and pray with you during this time of uncertainty. Please let us know how we can support and encourage you.
