We were pleased to have a Mass of Thanksgiving for Brother Bruce Michalek, OFM, who celebrates 50 years of professed life as a Franciscan. Bro. Bruce is the blood brother of our Sr. Mary Thomas. Bro. Bruce shared his beautiful reflections with us after Communion. He message was about obedience. When asked to accept assignments that were outside his education or training, he grew in the grace of God because he said "Yes". Congratulations Brother Bruce and thank you!

First Sunday of Advent
Casa Guadalupe Province Chapel

Grant your faithful, we pray, almighty God,
the resolve to run forth to meet your Christ
with righteous deeds at his coming,
so that, gathered at his right hand,
they may be worthy to possess the heavenly kingdom.
Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son,
who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
one God, for ever and ever.

By all reports, a good time was had by all at the sometimes annual Kentucky Derby Party hosted by our real live Kentucky Colonel, Jack Clark Robinson, OFM. A traditional Kentucky style stew called "Burgoo" was prepared by chef, Bruce Michalek, OFM. The ingredients included five different meats (beef, veal, lamb, pork, and chicken) as well as cinnamon bark and white pepper pods from Vietnam. Jack and Bruce also labored over the stove to create Kentucky Bourbon Balls and Jack concocted his famous authentic Mint Juleps. Approximately forty friends of the Friars attended and celebrated.
