Walking Meditation
poem by Thich Nhat Hanh

Take my hand.
We will walk.
We will only walk.
We will enjoy our walk
without thinking of arriving anywhere.
Walk peacefully.
Walk happily.
Our walk is a peace walk.
Our walk is a happiness walk.
Then we learn
that there is no peace walk;
that peace is the walk;
that there is no happiness walk;
that happiness is the walk.
We walk for ourselves.
We walk for everyone
always hand in hand.
Walk and touch peace every moment.
Walk and touch happiness every moment.
Each step brings a fresh breeze.
Each step makes a flower bloom under our feet.
Kiss the Earth with your feet.
Print on Earth your love and happiness.
Earth will be safe
when we feel in us enough safety.
THIS CHRISTMAS LET US REMEMBER THAT THE SAVIOR WAS DENIED ADMISSION AT THE INN - AND SO HE WAS BORN IN A MANGER. The message remains clear across 2018 years.
ABQ YAVs have been welcomed to New Mexico by SO many incredible people, so now it's our turn! Please drop in and join us for hot cocoa, cookies, and carols, so that we can thank you for making our first few months here so special. We hope you can join us & feel free to dress festively!

From those of you that we've gotten to know well to those of you who we haven't gotten to meet yet, all are welcome!
Thank you for your thoughtful and thought-provoking posts. I look for them each day on Facebook. Blessings!
Is there a Facebook event page for the Soiree, or a way to get a good flyer to post?
A little long but some good soul-searching stuff here.

Here in Madison, WI, we’re not enjoying the usual Fall festival of colors. Moderate drought and warmer days and nights have subdued the show.

According to one meteorologist, ”The trees are not getting the signal that it’s Fall.” The end result will likely be a lot of pale, wilted, mushy green leaves falling to the ground to make for soggy raking.

The trees seem to be in a funk around here, just as the human world has been in a funk for too many years. As nature suffers from global warming caused by human heedlessness, we suffer from a drought of compassion and common sense.

But there's one very large tree in my neighborhood that has somehow managed to pull off its annual miracle. I spend time with it every day on my afternoon walk, applauding the fact that it celebrates life in the midst of hard times, even though it stands alone. Daily it lifts my spirits...

Seems to me we need to be like that tree, even when we stand alone. There’s a lot of misery out there, and way too many ugly forces creating more of it. But there’s a lot of beauty in the human world, too, and we can be part of it. In some locales, Nov. 2 would be a good time to start.

To steal a line from that meteorologist, let’s send each other the signal that it’s time to flare up for love, truth, and justice!

Unconditional love.

So few of us ever experience it.
And yet, it is powerfully transformative.

#WednesdayWisdom from Mary!

[10/19/21]   Lord, not you,
it is I who am absent.
At first
belief was a joy I kept in secret,
stealing alone
into sacred places:
a quick glance, and away — and back,
circling.
I have long since uttered your name
but now
I elude your presence.
I stop
to think about you, and my mind
at once
like a minnow darts away,
darts
into the shadows, into gleams that fret
unceasing over
the river's purling and passing.
Not for one second
will my self hold still, but wanders
anywhere,
everywhere it can turn. Not you,
it is I am absent.
You are the stream, the fish, the light,
the pulsing shadow,
you the unchanging presence, in whom all
moves and changes.
How can I focus my flickering, perceive
at the fountain's heart
the sapphire I know is there?

It doesn't matter how you pray -- with your head bowed in silence, crying out in grief, or dancing. Churches are good for prayer, but so are garages and cars and mountains and showers and dance floors.
