We, as believers, trust that God will protect us and provide according to his riches in Glory, and at the same time we have to do our part. I would like to thank all of those who have been helping us giving their tithes and pledges in advance to help with this endeavor, and we are inviting those who are willing to continue supporting this small but mighty community of faith, EBS.

[03/22/20]   ***Closure Udpdate***

To all members and constituents of EBS,

Under the advice from city officials and state mandates, EBS will remain closed until April 15, 2020.
To uphold our Christian responsibility to care for each other’s health and well-being, the church administration came to the difficult decision to remain closed.

It is unfortunate that our church family will not be able to gather together to celebrate the remainder of Lent and Easter, but we still will find ways to celebrate the Resurrection of Christ. Pastora Lourdes will be posting a Sermon for the following date:
Sunday, March 29th
Sunday, April 5th
Thursday, April 9th
Friday, April 10th
Sunday, April 12th

All updates and sermons will be announced on our One Call system, emailed and posted on our website, www.ebsabq.com.

This rescission puts our church operation in a financial bind. We, as believers, trust that God will protect us and provide according to his riches in Glory, and at the same time we have to do our part. [02/06/17]   An Open Letter to United Methodists in Texas
and All People of Good Will
This open letter was issued by the Bishops of the State of TX,
but since our Bishop Bledsoe serves both TX & NM,
it is important for us to read these words as well.

Date Posted: 2/3/2017
We, the United Methodist Bishops of the State of Texas, greet you in the love of Christ. We call upon those who claim the title "Christian" to remember that our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, began his life as a homeless refugee, fleeing with his family to Egypt (Matthew 2:13-15). Just as the Holy Family was forced to flee their homeland and seek safety, too many flee for their lives in our violent, terror-plagued world.

In the face of such human tragedy in our world today, we, the bishops of The United Methodist Church in Texas, call upon all United Methodists to see Christ in the refugees of today, regardless of their nationality and/or social, religious, economic, or political background.

We share with others a common sense of frustration, hopelessness, and confusion as we view the unfolding images of today's refugees in the news. We desire to welcome the sojourner, love our neighbor, and stand with the most vulnerable among us, while also being concerned for the security and well-being of our communities, state, and nation. It is legitimate and proper to be concerned about the safety of our neighborhoods and our country. It is also proper and right that we reflect Christian compassion and values in our response. Jesus was explicit in his teachings when he said, "Whoever welcomes you welcomes me, and whoever welcomes me welcomes the one who sent me." (Matthew 10:40).

We cannot let fear rule the day; we must let love champion our actions. We are a nation founded on immigration and forged by the courage of shared values to be a "light on the hill" and a beacon of hope in a broken world.

As Christians and as Texans, our values are grounded in respect and hospitality toward strangers. We recognize that these are difficult and complex times that call for the best of America's values and our highest witness as followers of Jesus Christ. Accordingly, we call upon President Trump, Governor Abbott, and the leaders of our nation and state to seek a more compassionate response to immigrants and refugees. Joining with those who desire a safer America, we pray for a just and caring response to those most in need of our help and love.

Yours in Christ,
The United Methodist Bishops of the State of Texas

Bishop Earl Bledsoe, The Northwest Texas Conference (Northwest Texas-New Mexico Area)
Bishop Scott Jones, The Texas Conference (Houston Area)
Bishop Mike Lowry, The Central Texas Conference (Fort Worth Area)
Bishop Mike McKee, The North Texas Conference (Dallas Area)
Bishop Robert Schnase, The Rio Texas Conference (San Antonio Area)

[06/15/16]   Friday evening from 6:30 to 8:00pm the Emmaus community is meeting at El Buen Samaritano to fellowship and share a meal. After the meal we will have a communion service in the sanctuary with singing and worship time. Hope to see you there.

[05/02/16]   Dear United Methodist Church Family,

Paul Martinez, member of El Buen Samaritano UMC (EBS), had a severe health condition and is need of assistance by the church family. He has a wife and 3 small children (1,5,10 years old). He is wheelchair bound and his house has to be remodeled to accommodate a wheelchair. There are many items that are not covered my insurance to accommodate his basic needs. Cathy Costales' daughter Caryn Martinez is the wife of Paul Martinez. The grandmother is Amy Costales. The Costales Family is very active in many UMC committees and organizations. The church is hosting a spaghetti dinner to benefit the Martinez family on Sunday, May 22nd from 12:30-2:30pm at EBS. An adult ticket is $10 and children under 10 are $6. For further information contact the church from 9am-1pm or Yvonne Padilla-Barth any other time at [email protected].

The North-Fourth Arts Center Theater located at 4904 4th St. NW (4th & Griegos 505-345-2140) has graciously committed to donate the proceeds of the performance "Scarlett Letter" Saturday, April 30th, 2016 2pm performance to benefit the family of Paul Martinez. The cost of the performance is $20. Please attend this performance to help the family.

Please contact the church office or Yvonne Padilla-Barth to allow EBS to sell tickets at your church for the next Sundays until Sunday, May 22nd. Please attach this to your newsletter, church bulletin, and church Facebook.

Sincerely,
Rev. Francisco Escalera

[03/27/16]   All are welcome to celebrate Easter with us this morning at 11:00 am. How precious God's love and grace is. Christ rose, and he will return for us one day. Hallelujah!

[12/27/15]   Services are cancelled for today. Please share with those not online.

[10/25/15]   Today I felt the holy spirit in service, the scripture reading seemed tailored just for my ears. God answers our prayers, knows what we need better than we do, and when! The music was beautiful and Pastor Escalera was inspiring!
