Peace and all good!

I usually participate in the 1:00 p.m. Mass on Sundays. I am wondering if there's a legitimate reason why the music ministers routinely leave out the third plea for God's mercy in the Kyrie? Why are we now ignoring the Holy Spirit in our supplications--especially during a pandemic?!

Thank you, and God bless us all! 😇
What, pink camo caps aren't appropriate head coverings for women at Mass? 😁
Is the Mass schedule still the same this weekend as the last couple of weekends?? 4 and 6 instead of 5pm?
Prayer by St. Faustina

O my Jesus, I beg you on behalf of the whole Church:

Grant it love and the light of your Spirit, and give power to the words of priests so that hardened hearts might be brought to repentance and return to you, O Lord.

Lord, give us holy priests; you yourself maintain them in holiness.

O Divine and Great High Priest, may the power of Your mercy accompany them everywhere and protect them from the devil’s traps and snares which are continually being set for the souls of priests.

May the power of Your mercy, O Lord, shatter and bring to naught all that might tarnish the sanctity of priests, for you can do all things.
At St. Jude Thaddeus, we celebrated The Mass of our Lord’s Supper and Good Friday Serves via livestream in our living room. Even though we weren’t physically at the Church, we were able to feel the meaning and spirituality of the days. I am thankful that technology today allows us to participate in the masses and services and look forward to next year when this will be a memory. Thank you to Fr. Tri, Deacon Sal, Deacon Faustino and eveyone who have worked tirelessly during this most Holy Season!✝️
Thank you, Fr. Tri, Deacon Sal, Chuck, and all those behind the scenes that are making it possible for us to be able to attend Mass! I truly appreciate everything you all are doing to make it that way. I keep you all in my thoughts and prayers!
If you participate in the 1:00 p.m. Mass on Sundays, you may have encountered my brother Leon, who has autism and some level of intellectual disability. As part of his autism, he has some OCD tendencies, a major one being his compulsion to shake the hands of ladies of all ages. Due to his intellectual disability, he simply does not understand about germs, and his autism/OCD not only compels him to shake hands, but unfortunately, also prevents his developing empathy for others’ feelings and personal rights. (He does routinely visit the restroom before Mass to wash his hands, however!)

You may have also met me trailing along behind him to explain the situation to those people getting their hands shaken. Leon is a big guy, and I understand that this behavior can be alarming to unsuspecting people. Thankfully, usually, people are tolerant, once they know the situation.

Crowds stimulate Leon, and some of his unwelcome behaviors often therefore increase. So, we attend this specific Mass because there are generally fewer people in attendance than at other Masses. Additionally, we now sit in the back of the church, and to one side, for the same reason—usually fewer people sit back there.

This past Sunday, as we sat down, a woman in front of us got up and came back a few pews to where we were. Completely ignoring me, who was between her and Leon, she proceeded to angrily tell him in no uncertain terms that he was not allowed to touch her, ever. She wasn’t nasty about it—there was no name-calling—but she WAS very decidedly unfriendly. Leon’s response was to stretch his hand out to her as she scolded him. (Since he hadn’t had the time to do anything to her, yet, that day, presumably she was reacting to something from a previous week of which I am unaware.) We moved further away from where she was sitting, so my brother would be less likely to be tempted to bother her. Aside from that, I was somewhat shell-shocked by the experience, was near tears for most of the Mass thereafter, and almost completely unable to focus on it. (Although I had prayed for her and myself immediately afterwards, I was still pretty angry with her by Communion time, so I refrained from receiving, although I walked up with my brother.) I have no idea how Leon felt, but he was very well-behaved throughout Mass.

Families with disabled members are often quite fragile on several levels, and this was just the kind of experience that can lead some psychologically- and spiritually-fragile families to perceive the whole parish as being unwelcoming to people with disabilities, instead of just the one person—or even extrapolate that interpretation onto the entire Catholic Church! There are other, non-Catholic, Christian communities in town which enthusiastically embrace people with disabilities and their families, after all, and relocating to one of those would be so, so easy…except that the FULLNESS of the Christian Faith subsists within the Catholic Church. Not bringing Leon to Mass, at all, is not an option, either, since he is a fully-initiated Catholic, and has the same duty, as well as the right, to participate in the liturgy as any other Catholic.

So, we’ll be staying right here in your midst. You certainly have the right to not shake hands with people, if you don’t want to, and I do understand that there are other legitimate reasons to avoid such contact, too, so, if my brother’s obsessive, but friendly, behavior makes you uncomfortable, then, I invite you to sit elsewhere in the church during Mass. If you are afraid of my brother’s germs, please carry anti-bacterial gel for use afterwards.

I hope all the very best for you and yours. God bless you! 😇

We wish to inform all parishioners of some changes to restrictions at St. Jude beginning this weekend. The left side of the church (the side with the choir area) is now open to those who have been vaccinated and do not wish to wear a mask. The right side of the church (the side with the Baptismal font) will be for those that wish to continue wearing a mask at services. Those wearing masks may also choose to sit on either side.

Social distancing is still required, and ushers will be at each service to seat parishioners. All liturgical ministers are required to wear masks. Thank you to the parishioners of St. Jude for continuing to follow these safety measures and working to protect the vulnerable members of our parish. Your help and understanding is very much appreciated.

If you have any questions, please contact the Parish Office at 505-898-0826.
