Desert Hills Baptist Church

We are followers of Jesus Christ who have organized into a local church. We emphasis the preaching and teaching of God's Word and strive to obey it.

We conduct ourselves as a "free church" and operate under the model of a house church. While our services are more formal and structured than many in the house church movement, we recognize the necessity of intimacy and accountability to attain personal spiritual growth.

~Morning service 12/13/20 in 1 Peter 1 with Pastor Kirk Wesselink~
"Gird Your Mind"
Listen to the Sunday Morning Service during your week.

Description: There is an ongoing warfare of the mind. To gird up the loins of your mind is to prepare, train, strengthen, and rest for a healthy mind. The Bible calls us to be sober minded, yet we seek entertainment and fun. We binge on entetainment because it is not filling when any type of binging is not good for us. It takes work and is not easy to study, but it is rewarding. If you know something, it is hard to move you from it despite your "feelings" that fluxuate and are easily affected. Believers should be rested in the Word so that they are settled on what is truth. A man who is rested in the Word of the Lord cannot be troubled because he knows and has strengthened his faith. Some say you cannot understand the Bible until it is all over. Hoever you won't need the Bible when it is all over. You need the Bible now to stand trials and to be impermeable to it! Gird up your mind! Rest in the Word! Be aware and engaged in the war of your mind!

~Morning service 11/29/20 in 1 Peter 1 with Pastor Kirk Wesselink~
"Root of Faith"
Listen to the Sunday Morning Service during your week.

Description: "Until the end of your faith"- Most of the New Testament's goal is that you many know you are saved. You can stil reject Jesus and blaspheme His name. Yes, you can be confident your name is written in the Book of Life, but that (the salvation prayer) is not the end of your faith. 1 John is full of "if"s because believers should be a living faith. There are no comatose believers. You must invest in your salvation. God is faithful and He does His part. Are you faithful? Do you do your part? Make a point to establish that you are a follower of Jesus Christ every day! Does Jesus define you? Do you trust Him every day when it costs you something? When the world is evil and hard, we should still be satisfied. Your fiath is about to be tested. Will you stand....until the end of your faith?

Description: The more you study God the more you whould want rather than being satisfied with knowing enough. In verse 7, we are called to praise, honor, and glorify Jesus whom we have not seen yet love. Praise (lips): When believers gather together, thanksgiving should be present due to the abudnant mercy of God which we may not see yet but is promised in our future. Glory (brightness): When a Christian walks in to a room, they should always light up the room not with their own personality per se but with the message of Christ evident in our own life. Honor (authority): It is not the Jesus I create/image, but the Jesus I in me whom I should imitate. Are you willing to give your life for Him or just to lay down your death for Him?

‎DHBChurch.org: Enduring Without Anxiety on Apple Podcasts

~Morning service 11/15/20 in 1 Peter 1 with Pastor Kirk Wesselink~
"Enduring Without Anxiety"
Listen to the Sunday Morning Service during your week.

Description: We do not fully grasp all that God has done for us -the price that has been paid for us. We should always have joy and thankfulness for all He has done. Seriousness and agony do not override nor delete joy. Looking in James 1, we should endure trails to achieve the end goal. Hebrews 10: 31-34. Philippians 1: 28-30. Seeing the big picture allows us to take personal steps towards the goal even when they are painful steps. The opposite of joy is worry/anxiety. For faith to grow, it needs to be tested. Revelations 2:9-11. Over and over again, the Bible shows the relationship between our inheritance, our faith, our endurance of suffering, and our joy. Take on the hard jobs that no one else will do. The Day of the Lord is a time of suffering by the world's hand. Perpare. We have this hope: that there is held for us a great inheritance, that carried within us is a great power to endure all things so we can get to that inheritance, and that nothing can keep that inheritance from being in our hands on day except our own lack of faith.

~Morning service 11/8/20 in 1 Peter 1 with Pastor Kirk Wesselink~
"Plug Into The Power"
Listen to the Sunday Morning Service during your week.

Description: How does God preserve us, the inheritors, for the preserved inheritance? Believers are not passive in perserving their faith. It should be a relationship which takes two. It is a responding to the power of God in their life. God's power and grace are accessible to all men all the time, but it has conditions to it. You can resist, quench, and grieve the Holy Spirit. Being saved is not a single event in your life, but a continuation. You can't point to the single event of your salvaiton with nothing evident of salvation following it (bearing fruit). Your trusting of God began that day, but continues every day. Between the beginning of your faith and end of faith is a life of faith. Like the electricity in your house, the power is there in the powerline, but not accessed until you flip the light switch. Faith is the switch. God is the power of your spiritual life. The best evidence of enduring faith is one that grows stronger and clearer through testing. God tests us to make us stronger on the other side of testing which keeps us qualified to inherit. Faith is action (evidence), not a feeling. It will be tested. Testing purifies your faith.

"Guaranteed Inheritance"

Description: His abundant mercy made us rebord to a living hope to an inheritance incorruptible and undefiled. As children of God, we are joint heirs also joint in suffering and glorified together. Since people have let other people down we are people of worry and distrust projecting this distrust onto God. God promised us a secure inheritance, but we doubt. The Holy Spirit is our guarantee which is why we should not resist, grieve, or quench Him. If you are not walking with the Holy Spirit, you will buckle in the faith when there is suffering. Establish yourself in God's word. We compromise Jesus Christ so the world doesn't dislike us. True saving faith endures. He wants it to be yours so badly. I pray that you want it to be yours just as badly.

"Mercy Forever"
Listen to the Sunday Morning Service during your week.

Description:
Psalm 136 "...for His mercy endures forever." We use the word "salvation" as an umbrella term for the expansive work of Jesus. The author breaks down each facet of salvation to show His mercy in each act. His mercy is not just extended to us, but continues forever. As our American forefather Patrick Henry proclaimed, "Give me liberty or give me death!" He understood that death is not the end and liberty -God given freedom to choose to serve Him free from sin- is more precious than life itself. Believers should not fear death! Pastor Kirk used the example of the Christian martyrs Nate Saint, Jim Elliot, Ed McCully, Pete Fleming, and Roger Youderian. Because these men did not fear death, an entire tribe has eternal life. There are things more important and precious than keeping this body alive! His mercy forever! Amen!

"Language of Grace"
Listen to the Sunday Morning Service during your week.

Description:
1 Peter 1:2 "Grace to you and peace be multiplied." English greetings no longer incorporate God, peace, or grace. Pastor Kirk encourages followers of Jesus Christ to evaluate their speech and to make an effort to greet fellow brethren with godly greetings. How does the world know you are a child of God? Does your language convey or identify your faith? Incorporating godly minded speech into our greetings may cause unbelievers to inquire about the meaning giving you an opportunity to witness. Let your language be against the grain. One of the hardest tasks is to change your speech. James 3:1-12. Meditate on what you say so you can be blessed and be a blessing to others.

~Morning service 10/11/20 in 1 Peter 1 with Pastor Kirk Wesselink~
"Set Apart For Something More"
Listen to the Sunday Morning Service during your week.

Description:
Followers of Jesus should not be defined by anything on this earth except Christ. Pastor Kirk compares of the believer's walk to a train using the train as a metaphor. God laid the train tracks ahead of time and knows where it is going. People are invited "All aboard!" onto the train however each person has the choice to get on or not. Once you choose to board the train, you must obey. The engine is the Holy Spirit, the mechanism that moves us into action. As you travel on the train you become further apart from the world you left behind. As a believer you must live set apart becoming more godly as you travel further away from the ways of the world. Trying to do it on your own is like trying to drive the wrong vehicle such as a car on the railroad tracks. It won't take long to destroy your car. The fuel for the train is Jesus' blood which atones for our sin. His blood makes us distinct for a different purpose, His service. You have been pulled off the rat race wheel going nowhere and given a different purpose to live on the train with the goal of reaching your destination. A beleiver can do the same action as before for a completely different purpose!

"Chosen For Obedience"
Listen to Sunday Morning Service during your week.

Description:
Pastor Kirk addresses the terms elect and foreknowledge in 1 Peter 1:2. No forced relationship is joyful and God would not force us to surrender to Him. God's determined purpose was that He wanted to save men. He knew His Son would have to come to die for our sin. God know we would need to choose to obey God to be saved. Similar to a doctor's prognosis, God had a prognosis before the founding of the earth for the dilema of man. God provided everything we need to be saved: a Savior, the law to point out sin's existence, and conviction. God moves us toward salvation by providing conviction. God provided salvation and left it to man to choose to accept it.
