By faith, we know Jesus. By faith, we recognize what he has done for us and have chosen to follow him. Most of us were probably not Jews before we chose to become a Christian. We are the ones which were not of the original flock, but we have heard his voice and have become part of the one flock. Sometimes we are also like sheep that get lost, that go their own way and get into trouble. But, sheep are smart! They know their master’s voice and will follow it. A few months ago, I visited England and took a train trip to see the countryside. On the grassy slopes there were flocks of sheep. The sheep were spray painted with a vegetable die in different colors. Some were sprayed pink, some yellow, some blue or green. They spent their days on the slopes together, but at shearing time, the shepherds would come and call their sheep and each would follow the voice of its own shepherd. There are many who will come along and try to convince us that he or she is our shepherd, but we need to follow the voice of the one who died for us, who guides us, who has called us. How do we recognize the voice of the shepherd? By spending time “listening” to his voice in the Gospels! From the time a child is born, it recognizes the voice of its mother. This is because the child has spent nine months listening to that voice. Once in the world, the child will become attuned to the voice of all those who will care for him or her. If a parent calls the child, even if there are others calling their children, he or she will be able to pick out the parent’s voice. So it will be with us if only we spend the time with the Gospels so that we will be able to distinguish the voice of our shepherd from all those who would lead us astray.

Prayer: Thank you, Lord, for letting your voice be heard in each of the four Gospels. Thank you for inspiring these evangelists to leave a legacy of your words for us who would not be part of the original flock, so that we would recognize and follow your voice. Amen.

Have a Glorious Sunday!!!

[04/26/20]   Seest thou a man diligent in his business? he shall stand before kings; he shall not stand before mean men. Proverbs 22:29 KJV

Be humble. Seems so obvious but is so difficult. The ego in humans is so powerful, thinking that each of us deserves good. Deserves? We deserve nothing! God has graciously granted us the possibility to love and understand him. How often do we wait and expect God to come to us? Are we so arrogant? “Knock and the door shall be opened for you.” Leave everything else to God.

[04/24/20]   There is gold, and a multitude of rubies: but the lips of knowledge are a precious jewel. Proverbs 20:15

[04/22/20]   An intelligent heart acquires knowledge,
and the ear of the wise seeks knowledge. Proverbs 18:15

[04/21/20]   He that hath knowledge spareth his words: and a man of understanding is of an excellent spirit. Proverbs 17:27

[04/19/20]   All the ways of a man are clean in his own eyes; but the Lord weigheth the spirits. Proverbs 16:2 KJV

[04/18/20]   Pleasant words are like a honeycomb,
Sweetness to the soul and health to the bones. Proverbs 16:24

[04/18/20]   He who is slow to anger is better than the mighty,
And he who rules his spirit than he who takes a city. Proverbs 16:32

[04/13/20]   There shall no evil happen to the just: but the wicked shall be filled with mischief. Proverbs 12:21

Saturday was the Sabbath and a very difficult one for Mary, the apostles and the disciples because Jesus had died. Jesus had been buried without the traditional burial rites because it was too late in the day when he was taken down from the cross for them to perform them as the Sabbath was about to begin. They had no idea that when the women returned to the tomb on the first day of the week, they would find that Jesus wasn’t there. I can only imagine what they must have been thinking. They had felt so full of hope! They had believed! What they hadn’t understood, was everything Jesus had told them regarding his death and resurrection. I vividly remember when my son died. He had been visiting his sister in another state and we had to wait until his body was released and he could be returned for burial. Those days of waiting were the hardest for all of us. Once we saw him, we could say goodbye; we had the rituals of wake and funeral and burial. They weren’t easy times but performing the rituals brought a certain amount of peace. They were also reminders of our shared belief in the resurrection. This was something the apostles didn’t have. Yet, they knew that the burial rituals would bring them some peace as well, but they would have to wait until after the Sabbath. We can only imagine how their despair turned to joy the next morning. We are fortunate that the pain of death for us is lessened because of our belief that we will be reunited with our loved ones for all eternity.

Prayer: Lord, how difficult this day of waiting must have been for those who loved you. Thank you for the gift you have given us to know that we will be with you and those we love in the eternal kingdom of heaven. Amen.

[04/10/20]   Mark 10:34 - And they shall mock him, and shall scourge him, and shall spit upon him, and shall kill him: and the third day he shall rise again.

God never said the water and storms won’t come. If anything, when you read through the New Testament, you will see that Jesus assured us that we would face many trials and tribulations as a result of choosing to follow Him. But God has always assured us of His presence, in the good times and in the tough times. He has made his promise to be with us since the writing of the Old Testament. God will never leave you to face any trials on your own. He will always be there to strengthen you and help you endure.🙏🙏

Prayer: Lord, as we approach this week, may we remember again all that you have done for us. May we remember your words and actions and recommit ourselves to living lives that are worthy of your sacrifice. Amen.

[04/05/20]   Proverbs Chapter 9

10 The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom,
and the knowledge of the Holy One is insight.
11 For by me your days will be multiplied,
and years will be added to your life.
12 If you are wise, you are wise for yourself;
if you scoff, you alone will bear it.

[04/05/20]   For whoever finds me finds life
and obtains favor from the Lord,
but he who fails to find me injures himself;
all who hate me love death.” Proverbs 8:36-37

[04/05/20]   For whoever finds me finds life
and obtains favor from the Lord,
but he who fails to find me injures himself;
all who hate me love death.” Proverbs 8:35-36

Wisdom! How do you think of wisdom? In some cultures, wisdom is considered the gift of the aged. Others think of the wisdom of children. We talk about “street smarts.” We use the expression, “Penny wise and pound foolish.” Jesus spoke of the wisdom of the simple. So what does this passage from Proverbs tell us about wisdom? First it is placed securely in prudence. Knowledge, discretion, counsel and understanding are included. What is not part of wisdom is pride, arrogance, evil and a “perverse” mouth. Wisdom doesn’t make snap decisions or judgments. Wisdom is not proud but humble. The wise person recognizes wisdom in others and is willing to learn from them. Some of the wisest people that I have known were not the best educated, but had a thirst for knowledge that never stopped as they grew older. I have spoken with teachers who knew that there were times when their students had as much to teach them as they had to teach their students. The wise person listens. Have you ever been in a conversation with someone who only wants to talk about themselves, and who interrupts others constantly? These are people who have no interest in learning from others. There is no one who has all the knowledge and the wise person will continue to listen and learn from others. I know people who think that if you use big words, you will sound intelligent. I have found that people who do this often use words that are inappropriate for the situation. I also worked with a man who had a Doctoral Degree and was so well respected that the college he worked for kept him on as a consultant long after he retired. This man loved God and could explain the Scriptures to the well-educated and also to those who had no education. I considered him one of the wisest people I have known.

Prayer: Almighty and all-knowing God, you alone have all the wisdom. Teach us to listen and learn from you and your son, Jesus, so that we will continue to grow in wisdom and holiness. Amen.

You, Lord, are he who can help us to win the battle of the mind and of the heart. Your Word is mighty in the hands of the Spirit to crush false and prideful beliefs that are contrary to the doctrine of Christ. We lean on Your Word and its teachings and not on our own natural understanding. We come to Your Word in faith, seeking understanding.

[03/29/20]   Forbearing one another, and forgiving one another, if any man have a quarrel against any: even as Christ forgave you, so also do ye. Colossians 3:13.

Forgiveness is one of the most talked about concepts in the Bible. If it is talked about so much and God is ALWAYS willing to forgive us if we ask, what do you think He would want us to do when someone asks us for forgiveness?

Forgive me for my weaknesses, O Lord my Shepherd. I have rejected my fellow man on many occasions, causing harm when I should have followed thy steps. I have acted wickedly, and I beg that you forgive me and give me the wisdom to learn from my previous mistakes. With Jesus as my example, help me become a better person and an example for others. I pray this in his holy name. Amen.
