Last week Our Savior Lutheran Church Alamogordo, New Mexico celebrated their 60th Anniversary! We had a wonderful service and a delicious pot luck! We also enjoyed some fantastic fellowship and great stories from the past 60 years. Our Savior has had a big impact on our community and continues to support local projects every week and month all year long. #goodnewsalamogordo #WeAreLutheran #GiveAlamogordo #adventuresforlife
In honor of sharing Martin Luther's Dream, not just the holiday, but every day! Ties of love and hope abound!
Prayer Vigil TONIGHT!

In response to yet another mass shooting, we gather around the Pascal Candle and Font. Tonight at 6:30pm in the Sanctuary. This takes the place of our Bible Study. Bring Bibles, laments, and prayers.

Please, invite friends. If you cannot be at church, please be in prayer with us at the same time. And then, may our prayers change our hearts and motivate our hands, and voices.

Peace,
Kristi

Our Mission is to Proclaim the Gospel of Christ, to Worship through Word and Sacrament, and to Nurture all People to the Christian Faith.

On Maundy Thursday, our Lenten observance comes to an end, and we gather with Christians around the world to celebrate the Three Days of Jesus’ death and resurrection. Tonight we remember Christ’s last meal with his disciples, but the central focus is his commandment that we live out the promise embodied in this meal. As Jesus washed his disciples’ feet, so we are called to give and receive love in humble service to one another. Formed into a new body in Christ through this holy meal, we are transformed by the mercy we have received and carry it into the world.

Today we commemorate John Donne, a preacher and a poet who died on this day in 1631. As we prepare for the Three Days, we pray one of his prayers:
“Keep us, O Lord, so awake in the duties of our callings that we may sleep in your peace and wake in your glory to an unending possession of that realm which your Son, our Savior Jesus Christ, has purchased for us with the price of his own blood.”

Today we commemorate the Presentation of Our Lord. “Guided by the Spirit, Simeon came into the temple; and when the parents brought in the child Jesus, to do for him what was customary under the law, Simeon took him in his arms and praised God, saying, ‘Master, now you are dismissing your servant in peace, according to your word; for my eyes have seen your salvation, which you have prepared in the presence of all peoples, a light for revelation to the Gentiles and for glory to your people Israel’” (Luke 2:27-32).

City of Alamogordo - Government

The 100% Otero Housing Action Team has committed to participate on a County level in the statewide PIT [Point in Time] count recommended by the New Mexico Department of Housing and Urban Development. The count is customarily completed by each municipality seeking to receive Federal funds to support programs directed to those experiencing #homelessness or are housing insecure. On a specific day, those folks who are considered "homeless", that is living in a place not meant for human habitation, i.e. car, doorway, tent, shed, etc. are counted, so to determine the scope of the issue in that specific area. The count will determine need, which may translate into the flow of dollars. A systematic, organized PIT count has not been completed in Otero County for quite some time.

Pastor Mike Degner from the newly formed "Hope Community Center" is coordinating with the New Mexico Coalition to End Homelessness in leading the point in time count in Otero County this year. The specific date for the count is Jan. 25th. A simple, brief, non-intrusive survey is the data collection tool they are asked to use. If you would like to help, the last orientation and training on use of the survey is today, Jan. 19th. The surveys will be conducted and data collected the week of Jan. 25th - Feb.

You can also help if you or members of your staff/church/organization may come into contact with persons who would be considered homeless by the HUD definition and be willing to encourage those persons to complete this very simple survey. Another way you may help is to donate small hygiene items, granola bars, or small gift for bags given to persons as a "thank you" for their time in completing the survey. If you can donate small hygiene or food items, new socks or warm hats, or $5 or $10 gift cards to restaurants or grocery stores for the thank you bags, please drop the items off at Hope Community Center, 313 6th Street in Alamogordo by Friday, January 22.

For additional or specific information, and to volunteer your assistance, please call Mike Degner @ 949-545-8368.

“Now Samuel did not yet know the Lord, and the word of the Lord had not yet been revealed to him. The Lord called Samuel again, a third time. And he got up and went to Eli, and said, ‘Here I am, for you called me.’ Then Eli perceived that the Lord was calling the boy. Therefore Eli said to Samuel, ‘Go, lie down; and if [the Lord] calls you, you shall say, “Speak, Lord, for your servant is listening.”’ So Samuel went and lay down in his place. Now the Lord came and stood there, calling as before, ‘Samuel! Samuel!’ And Samuel said, ‘Speak, for your servant is listening’” (1 Samuel 7-10).
