Commemoration of the Emanuel Nine — June 17 06/17/2021

Commemoration of the Emanuel Nine — June 17

Today, we remember the nine martyrs of Mother Emanuel Church with a day of prayer to end racism and white supremacy. The “Emanuel Nine,” of blessed and eternal memory, were nine gifted, loving, and faithful people who spent their lives striving for excellence, connection, and the presence of God, and spent their last moments in study of the word. They leave a legacy of grace, resistance, family, and faith. Please mourn, pray, and celebrate the Emanuel Nine's legacy with us.

Commemoration of the Emanuel Nine — June 17 As church we are called to confess the sin of racism, condemn the ideology of white supremacy, and strive for racial justice and peace. Beyond statements and prayers, we are called to also act and respond to injustices. Take the ELCA Anti-Racism Pledge. Pledge Now!

[06/15/21]   Trinity Pandemic Precautions Update

Greetings Trinity,

[Jesus said] “You shall love your neighbor as yourself.”
-Matthew 22:39

At our June 8th council meeting, we discussed the evolving CDC and New York State guidelines around pandemic precautions. While we know that many who come to church are fully vaccinated, there are some who are not, particularly our youngest people under the age of 12. While the pandemic is by no means over (despite growing vaccination and low infection numbers), there is good ventilation that we can provide in the sanctuary in the summer months.

Keeping these things in mind, we are adopting the following updates to our worship pandemic precautions:

• Masks and physical distancing will continue to be required throughout the building for ALL persons – vaccinated and unvaccinated.
o There is an exception for fully-vaccinated persons – and only in the sanctuary – where masks may be removed once seated and physically distanced. When you leave your seat, please wear your mask.
• Singing as a whole congregation will begin again. Unvaccinated persons will need to remain masked to sing.
• Communion in the aisle (coming forward to receive the elements) will begin again. Everyone coming forward will need to stay physically distanced and wear a mask until you receive your communion elements, at which time you may briefly remove your mask.
• Masks will not be required for outdoor worship (ex.: Worship in the Park) but have a mask handy in case we need to move indoors or if you need to access indoor restrooms.
These updates will take effect the weekend of our Sunday, June 20th worship service.

The council and I feel that these updates are gradual but significant steps in moving towards life after the pandemic. We will still regularly monitor updates and adjust things as needed to best keep everyone safe from the coronavirus. Your faithfulness and honesty are greatly appreciated as we make these updates.

I invite you to take a moment and reflect on what emotions this letter stirs in you. Some will feel frustrated that we are moving too slowly. Others may feel fear that we are easing restrictions in the slightest. My hope is that we all might give and receive grace. Grace for ourselves and grace for those who feel differently than we do. Grace for leadership that is trying its best to be faithful and grace for our community doing its best to proclaim the Gospel in thought, word, and deed. Let us love one another by extending the grace God has first given to us.

We hope to see and sing with you in worship over the summer. There are several other opportunities for us to gather as community outdoors as well. And as always if you have questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to reach out to a council member or myself, so you can be heard, and we can address things as needed.

Blessings,
Pastor Rick MG & the Trinity council

[Jesus] said, “With what can we compare the kingdom of God, or what parable will we use for it? It is like a mustard seed, which, when sown upon the ground, is the smallest of all the seeds on earth; yet when it is sown it grows up and becomes the greatest of all shrubs, and puts forth large branches, so that the birds of the air can make nests in its shade” (Mark 4:30-32).

While we definitely appreciate donations to the Akron Newstead Food Pantry, please consider WHAT you are donating and HOW...

-If you have food items that are in good condition (no rust, dents, dirt, etc.) and are NOT expired, we would LOVE to take your donations.
-BUT...if you have food items that are dented, rusty, expired, or are otherwise something you would not keep but may think "eh, they'll take it" (like the box on the right found in the rain today)...we wont take it. We will throw it away because it isn't safe for the human beings we serve.
-PLEASE place said donations - in good shape - in the drop box you see on the left at the side door of the church. Leaving nasty donations outdoors in the elements is NOT the way.

Help us help others, and help us do so with dignity and respect of those we feed. THANKS!!!

*Please pass the word on to the community*

Dear God, with deep gratitude we thank you for those who guard, guide and serve our nation. Thank you for those who gave the last full measure of devotion by sacrificing their lives to secure and safeguard our liberties. Bless their memory, as well as their family, friends and community who now enjoy the freedom for which they died. This we pray in the name of Jesus, even as we plead for peace and justice in our time. Amen.

Doesn't life feel like this sometimes? Sure, the Holy Spirit leading us can feel like a crazy roller coaster ride, but what about those other rides that have pain, suffering, hurt that we just want off of? Where's the Spirit then? It turns out, much closer than we think.

Join us 9:30 am Sunday to hear more either in-person or online at https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCMkf15eYF1YGMxA0HIUxfoA

Release: Erie County introduces "Vax Visit" service to vaccinate any Erie County resident at their home

https://www2.erie.gov/health/index.php?q=press/erie-county-introduces-%E2%80%9Cvax-visit%E2%80%9D-service-vaccinate-any-erie-county-resident-their-home

Individuals and households can schedule at-home COVID-19 vaccination through the Erie County COVID-19 Information Line at (716) 858-2929

The Erie County Department of Health (ECDOH) is introducing a service where a “Vax Visit” team will go to any individual’s residence to administer COVID-19 vaccine.

Any Erie County resident can call the Erie County COVID-19 Information Line at (716) 858-2929 to schedule a Vax Visit. This program will use Pfizer, Moderna or Johnson & Johnson vaccine as supply is available.

After more than 60% of eligible residents have received at least one COVID-19 vaccine dose, demand for COVID-19 is declining. That trend in Erie County and Western New York follows what is happening nationwide.

“Our Vax Visit program is another way we are shifting our large, centralized vaccine clinic model to a more flexible model that meets people where they are – close to their home, close to their workplace or when they are at events or activities,” explained Commissioner of Health Dr. Gale Burstein. “We have an active calendar planned to reach Erie County residents at places they like to spend time in the warm weather, like Erie County Parks, Recreation & Forestry parks and community events. Those events will complement our other popups clinics at senior housing, schools, village and town halls, houses of worship, business and workplace sites.”

“Our department began vaccinating homebound and home-limited residents at home in March 2021 with county staff and partnering with Buffalo Homecare Inc and the Visiting Nursing Association of WNY (VNA),” said Dr. Burstein. “To date, this program has fully vaccinated more than 1,000 residents at their homes. This has proven to be a slower, but effective, vaccination model, and this expansion emphasizes convenience and access for all county residents. We have always said we would go door-to-door to vaccinate if we have to, and now is the time to start.”

Residents who sign up for a Vax Visit will be contacted to schedule their visit; these residents are strongly urged to pick up the phone if they receive a call from an unknown number.

Until the CDC provides its approval for emergency use of the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine in the 12-15-year-old age group, the Vax Visit program will be available only to residents ages 16 and older. ECDOH will coordinate COVID-19 vaccination clinics for ages 12 and older at school sites throughout the county and partner with community pediatricians to vaccinate their patients in their medical home once authorized by the federal and state governments.
