The baby was wrapped in swaddling clothes and laid in a manger. The body was wrapped in linen and laid in a sepulcher. (Luke 2:7, 23:53) With the precision of a physician, Luke writes with the identical sentence structure at the beginning and end of his Gospel.

The Holy Ghost inspired those words for a reason. You cannot separate Christmas from the Cross. This Baby was born to bleed. A humble manger was his cradle but a cruel cross was his murder weapon.

The baby born on a “silent night” suffered a violent death. Jesus is the Lamb slain before the foundations of the world. But the baby didn’t stay in the stable, He grew up. And the body didn’t stay in the tomb, He got up.

He was born once so we can be born twice.

“Those Few Sheep,” We’ve often heard it preached or taught that David’s older brother attempt at embarrassment was minimizing David’s duties. But what if Eliab was telling the truth? What if David’s flock was few? What if he had only a few sheep in his care? No where in Scripture does the Bible state David had thousands of sheep like Jacob or Job. Perhaps a father like Jesse who hesitated to introduce David to the prophet Samuel also delegated David just a few sheep, keeping the boy occupied and out of the way. Yet David sang and played the harp to “those few sheep”. David slew a lion and a bear for “those few sheep”. David led “those few sheep” to green pastures and still waters. Why? Because “those few sheep” mattered. And because David was faithful over “those few sheep” he was made ruler over all of Israel.

Are you faithful to the few? Those few kids showing up for Christmas play practice. Those few music students you teach lessons. Those few members of the choir you direct. Those few employees you pay. Those few nursing home residents you hug. Those few hungry you feed. Those few naked you clothe. Those few orphans you support. Those few soldiers you write. Those few prisoners you visit. Those few sick you pray for. Those few dollars you give. Those few hours you donate. Those few sheep in the Sunday school class you teach. Those few sheep in the congregation you preach. Those few matter.
A few loaves and fishes fed thousands (Matthew 15:34, Mark 8:6). A few eight souls saved mankind in the Ark (1 Peter 3:10). A few with strength made all the difference in Sardis (Revelation 3:4). There are few laborers in the plenteous harvest. Many are called but only a few are chosen. Those few matter. Be faithful to the few.

If you ever feel too talented for the few. If you ever feel too important for the few. If you ever feel too valuable for the few. If you ever feel discouraged with the few. If you ever feel overwhelmed with the few. If you ever feel like giving up over the few. Remember the Good Shepherd, the Great Shepherd, the Chief Shepherd did far more for far less. Jesus didn’t do it for the few. He did it for the one, not the ninety-nine.

And he entered into one of the ships, which was Simon's, and prayed him that he would thrust out a little from the land. And he sat down, and taught the people out of the ship. Now when he had left speaking, he said unto Simon, Launch out into the deep, and let down your nets for a draught. And Simon answering said unto him, Master, we have toiled all the night, and have taken nothing: nevertheless at thy word I will let down the net. And when they had this done, they inclosed a great multitude of fishes: and their net brake. And they beckoned unto their partners, which were in the other ship, that they should come and help them. [02/15/19]   This Valentine’s Day, may you be able to comprehend with all saints what is the breadth (For God so loved the world), and length (that He gave His only begotten Son) and depth (that whosoever believes in Him shall not perish) and height (but have everlasting life) And to know the love of Christ. (Ephesians 3:18 with John 3:16) How wide is His love? Wide enough for the whole wide world. What is the length of His love? He sent His Son. How deep is His love? Deeper than the deepest sin. It is for whosoever. How high is His love? As high as the Heavens with everlasting life. How much does He love you? He stretched out his arms as if to say I love you this much. He loved you with the Cross.

[02/01/19]   What man meant for evil, God meant for good (Genesis 50:20). If you’re reading the Bible through in 2019, You’ve most likely read these words that Joseph told his brothers. This truth is echoed in the New Testament with all things work together for our good (Romans 8:28). I’ve been reminded of these verses recently as I’ve been horrified, sickened, and angered with the news of New York legalized mass murder of innocent babies with Virgina failed attempt to follow in their bloody footsteps.

These laws meant for evil, God can turn into good. This tragedy has awoken the sleeping giant of the church. Christians posting, protesting, and praying about abortion. Churches biding together Conservatives uniting together. Even celebrities and liberals and typical pro choice people are saddened and shocked and silenced as they struggle to defend the indefensible. The majority of Americans side with life.

RBG is stepping down from the Supreme Court sooner than later, because of her poor health. President Trump has 6 years to appoint her vacancy. This will be a battle not for the balance of the Supreme Court but for the Constitutional conservative majority of it.

And may God turn this into good. May the majority of Americans realize that the unborn is a person in the womb and the Supreme Court has it wrong just has much as it was wrong when America declared minorities were 3/5ths of a person. Just as Jews in Germany were considered less than human. And may a heartbeat and human life be determined sacred, valued, and protected again in America.

Question: What does it mean to be a living sacrifice?

Answer: Romans 12:1. The living sacrifice is our bodies. We are embodied beings. We do nothing in this present life without our bodies. All that we do, we do through our bodies. By presenting our bodies as a once-for-all dedication, we are surrendering all that we are, have, and do to God for His disposal.

This is a holy sacrifice. Holiness of heart is manifested through bodily activity. All the activities of the body—not just the religious ones, but even the everyday, ordinary ones—are to be free from sin and devoted to doing God’s will. A living, holy sacrifice is acceptable—well-pleasing—unto God. It is our reasonable service.

Maintaining a sacrificial life of service to God requires a continual resistance to the ways and thoughts of the world and a continual renewal of thinking the way Jesus thinks (v.2).

Living a sacrificial life of service requires humility (v.3), harmony (vv.4,5), usefulness according to the grace God has given to each one (vv.5-8), and love in action (vv.9-21).

Question: Do you know how many times the Declaration of Independence refers to God?

Answer: Four times. They are, in order of appearance, Nature’s God, Creator, Supreme Judge, and Divine Providence.

1. Being Nature’s God, He entitles them to independence. The people of the Colonies believed they had the right “...to assume among the powers of the earth, the equal and separate station to which the Laws of Nature and Nature’s God entitle them....”

2. Being the Creator, God endows them with equality and rights. “We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable rights, that among theses are Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of Happiness.”

3. Being the Supreme Judge, they appeal to God for the rectitude of their intentions. “We, the Representatives of the united States of America, in General Congress, Assembled, appealing to the Supreme Judge of the world for the rectitude of our intentions...”

4. Being Divine Providence, they rely on God’s protection. “And for the support of this Declaration, with firm reliance on the protection of Divine Providence, we mutually pledge our Lives, Fortunes, and our sacred Honor.”

[04/08/18]   Pray for Sister Messer. She fell at Iron Mountain and broke her shoulder.
UPDATE.
Visit with orthopedic surgeon this morning (Monday, April 9th) resulted in more X-rays, which differed from Satuday’s X-rays which showed need for surgery with possibly pins. No surgery needed. Doctor prescribed pain medication, wearing sling when moving around, gradually increase fingers and arm movement, and four weeks of physical therapy. Return for check-up visit May 9th.

The God of the New

HE PROMISED TO DO A NEW THING & MAKE ALL THINGS NEW
Isa 43:19 Behold, I will do a new thing; now it shall spring forth; shall ye not know it? I will even make a way in the wilderness, and rivers in the desert.
Rev 21:5 And he that sat upon the throne said, Behold, I make all things new. And he said unto me, Write: for these words are true and faithful.

NEW MERCY
