I'm being made an administrator of this site right now. As soon as that's complete I'll start the live stream.
Greetings AFUMC Family,

The Admin Team has met a few times over the past month since I've arrived. We've addressed a handful of topics to get me up to speed. One of the items we've discussed is the current state of the congregation. They've shared an objective take on the current situation as compared to the past few years and several years back. It's no secret that our current stats are less than desirable.

During our meeting last Sunday we had a heart-to-heart. We addressed the harsh reality that if we want our current situation to change, we have to change our current situation. Everyone was on board, but the Admin Team alone is not enough. We need everyone's input because our conversation revolves around the C-dash-dash-dash-dash-dash word: Change.

So, I'm going to have a Facebook live chat tomorrow (Thursday) at 7pm on this site. I briefly explain where I and the Admin team are coming from and then discuss your questions and comments.

I know it's short notice, but I hope to see you there!
Good morning AFUMC Family,

The decision was made to continue solely online worship through Labor Day. After that time, we’ll revisit the decision. The trend of spiking COVID numbers is assuredly going to continue as school begins. The body of Christ cannot feed with withered hands so the life of AFUMC and the lives within must remain healthy.

Therefore, at least through Labor Day, we will continue to worship online. Visit this page at 9:00a on Sundays for the live stream and then go to the church’s website (https://adairsvillechurch.com/give) to continue financially supporting the ministry of Adairsville First UMC.

This Sunday we’re starting a worship series titled Personal Jesus. We’re going to journey through John’s gospel and get to know the passionate and compassionate Jesus of Nazareth. My hope is that this series will help us know Jesus better so we can follow Jesus better.

Kevin
Good evening or good morning,
The renovations have begun in the sanctuary so it will be out of commission through the end of August. As a result, Susan, Steve, and I will be outside as we lead worship in the morning. The live feed will happen at 9:00am. Of course, the post will remain on our page afterwards, but again, it will be live at 9:00am.

I apologize for just now posting the time change!
-Kevin
AFUMC Family,
It was great to worship together last Sunday! I appreciate everyone being there and I also appreciate everyone respecting the precautions. I would’ve loved to have gotten to meet, shake hands, and see everyone’s faces on my first Sunday. Even still, it was great to be with you!

It was a wonderful time together but I have some news to report. The worship team met again this week and we decided it would be best to discontinue in-person worship at least through the end of August. Our decision was affected by two realities. First, COVI-19 numbers have a sharp increase over the past few weeks. Based on this resource that comes out of Georgia Tech, Bartow county is in the 97% risk level. We just thought it would be prudent to respect the report an avoid the chance of putting folks at risk. https://covid19risk.biosci.gatech.edu/?fbclid=IwAR2kk_lIfSO02QKuoz-r7GQGe0UkUyE-CsB7ytQUKhSLPrtlVnzY1jCborU

Second, renovations to the sanctuary begin Monday and the work is scheduled to be completed at the end of August. The original plan was to worship in the Family Life Center during the renovations, but even without the COVID-19 precautions, that would be difficult.

So our solution is to go back to Facebook Live. However, we’re going to do it a little differently. Susan, Steve, and I will be in the church leading worship. We’ll sing, we’ll pray, we’ll preach, we’ll even proclaim our faith with the Apostles’ Creed. You're encouraged participate from wherever you're watching! Our goal is for this to be an authentic worship experience for all who join online.

When Moses was on the mountain, the nation of Israel worshiped from afar. I’m not Moses and AFUMC isn’t quite Mt. Sinai, but God is present and if an entire nation of people can effectively worship at a distance, so can we! 😃

See you online at 11:00a tomorrow!

Kevin
Greetings AFUMC Family,
I hope everyone is doing well and staying safe. I know it’s been forever since AFUMC has worshiped in person, but we’re going to give it a try this Sunday! The worship team met earlier this week and we confirmed the regulations for the crowd.

We hope everyone who is able and interested will come to church this Sunday. The worship starts at 11:00a. It’s just going to be worship because there is no Sunday school or any other activities before or after worship. We’ll get back to normal soon enough but for now we need to stick with just worship. However, if you are not feeling well or you’re apprehensive about being in close proximity to a crowd of folks, we completely understand you’re staying at home. We will continue live-streaming our services on Facebook.

The following are the regulations for being together in worship. I know it seems like a lot because, frankly, it is a lot. But the regulations are there for the safety of the group. We’re learning new facts about COVID-19 on a regular basis so it’s good practice for us all to just err on the side of caution.

My family and I are really excited to worship with our new church family, even if it’s under unique circumstances!
-Kevin
