Africa Youth Ministries Child Care

ECO BAGS: This is a Recycling Project implemented by Red Ribbon Fund, Africa Youth Ministries and Greening Uganda. The project is about one of our continued innovations of Recycling Cargo Fasteners into very beautiful shopping bags. Plastic Cargo fasteners can be found thrown every where in shopping arcades and malls by traders who import goods most especially China, Dubai, Hong-Kong, Thailand, Taiwan, South Korea. Once they open their boxes, the cargo fasteners are thrown away for the municipal authorities to collect as rubbish. The Cargo fasteners Recycling Initiative hits 3 birds with one stone e.g. In fighting to protect the environment from non biodegradable plastic waste which cannot decompose, Create employment for unemployed and an educated youth, women, and girls, and fight poverty among the urban poor. Out of the Cargo strand recycling initiative, we have been able to make very beautiful, durable, washable shopping bags in different sizes, and pick-nick or prayer mats.

CHALLENGES:
Our biggest challenge in this project, is the cost associated to collecting the freely available materials in shopping malls. We only depend on hired transport to collect the Cargo fasteners. Our urgent appeal is for funds to buy a small van or truck to collect the Cargo strands & to distribute the shopping bags to shopping centres, markets, shops etc. We urgently need US$ 8,750 to buy the Van or Truck.

HOW YOU CAN HELP:
Our most urgent need today, is buy a Van or mini truck to increase our daily collection of Cargo fasteners, and plastic drinking straws to increase production and to distribute finished products to markets for sales, we urgently need US$ 8,750, your US$ 5, 10, 20, 50, 100 or more can help us save the environment, create employment, end poverty, Donate Now! Africa Youth Ministries

Improving house hold incomes and fighting poverty in rural Uganda, can successfully thrive only if it focuses on Agriculture because, Uganda's economy is predominantly agriculture, contributing 42% of GDP 2002/2003. Agriculture employs over 80% of the labour force and also accounts for over 90% of export earnings. About 80 percent of the country’s total land area is arable, although it is estimated that only 30 percent is being productively utilized. The vegetation is mainly composed of savannah grasslands, woodlands, bush land and tropical rain forest. More than 75 percent of the country has an equatorial climate that is modified by the high altitude. The southern part of the country receives between 1 000 and 1 500 mm of rainfall and has two rainy seasons annually, while the northern part has a single rainy season and receives between 600 and 1 000 mm of rainfall per annum. The southern parts of Uganda mainly cultivate perennial crops that include coffee and green bananas, while livestock farming is practiced in the drier areas of northern and western Uganda. Africa Youth Ministries works with rural communities to improve house hold incomes and fight poverty through establishing small scale farming groups. These groups are engaged in fruit farming, poultry, horticulture, mushroom growing, piggery, maize growing, cassava and sweet potatoes. These small farming projects have helped many families increase food security & improve house hold incomes.

STUMBLING BLOCKS:
Our major stumbling blocks in achieving our set objectives has been lack of ready funds for purchasing improved seeds, seed capital in poultry, hiring tractors for field cultivation, setting up of farmer demonstration centres etc.

DONATING A USED TRACTOR:
This is our humble appeal to all individuals, companies and farmers groups that have redundant used tractors to consider donating 1 or 2 to us in support of rural house hold income improvement, poverty eradication and increasing food security.

HOW YOU CAN HELP:
To support this project, we invite you to make a financial donation, your US$ 5, 10, 20, 50, 100 or more can help us improve house hold incomes, reduce poverty, and increase food security at house hold and community levels, to donate visit us at https://www.givengain.com/cause/2394/donate/#start
