The move, which effectively takes mobile money away from telecom service operations, regulated by Uganda Communications Commission, has now been implemented with the issuance of financial services operator licences to Airtel Money, which will trade as Airtel Mobile Commerce Uganda and MTN, which has placed its mobile money business under MTN Mobile Money Uganda.

The licences, which were issued at the weekend by the National Payment System department at Bank of Uganda, will seek to ensure overall effectiveness and integrity of payment systems in the country, including mobile money.

The National Payment Systems Act, among others, seeks to separate telecom services from financial operations that are largely regulated by Bank of Uganda. The Act also requires telecom to register new subsidiaries under which mobile money services will be operated......www.pearlfm.co.ug

His worship Ssalongo Erias Lukwago has taken oath of allegiance today at City Hall Kampala before Buganda road chief magestrate Her Lordship Miriam Akello Ayo to led People of Kampala city in term 2021_2026.

Lukwago warned the newly sworn in councilors to know their limits and having mutual respect to one another .
"I have been here before and still here, so watch your steps" Lukwago said .

Kamuli Woman MP Rebecca Alitwala Kadaga says that she is ready to submit a notice to the ruling National Resistance Movement-NRM party to compete in the Speakers race.

Kadaga is seeking a third term of office as the speaker of Parliament having served as the Speaker of the ninth and tenth parliaments, ending ten years of service at the helm of the legislative assembly. Prior to this, she served as the deputy speaker for two terms, during the seventh and eighth parliaments.

But as the process takes shape, the Central Executive Committee of the ruling party, to which she subscribes to resolved that all its party members, who are interested in contesting for leadership positions in Parliament should officially express interest through the party Electoral Commission.

This is the first time that the Central Executive Commitee is subjecting candidates to this kind of scrutiny. riding on its numerical strength, the NRM has previously used its parliament caucus to decide on a particular candidate for the position of Speaker and Deputy Speaker.
