Society of St. Vincent De Paul (Uganda)

The Society of Saint Vincent de Paul (SSVP or SVdP) is a Catholic voluntary organization of lay men and women founded in France in 1833, & introduced in Uganda in 1959. Our member (Vincentians) are dedicated to providing personal, one-to-one interaction with people in need. We visit them where they are-- their home, a hospital, residential home or institution, on the streets, in prison-- wherever they are, and regardless of their beliefs or culture or background. We extend our hands first in friendship as the basis for all the other help we give. There are around 51,000 conferences in the world, with over 700,000 members. Working with the members, in particular tasks to help different groups of people (children, the elderly, the sick, schools, hospitals, etc.) are more than 1,500,000 volunteers, throughout the world, since there are Conferences of the SVP in 142 countries.

Mission: As Vincentians we are committed to serving God through loving and helping our neighbor.

Mundelein Seminary

"Seeing Fr. John Bosco Lutaaya (Mundelein Class of 2016) in action [in Uganda] made me hopeful and prayerful for his challenges and difficulties as a priest. His parishioners make the load lighter, and they give him the creative energy to provide more and more for them, just like a father would for his children."
- Cristian Garcia, 1T Chicago, on his visit to Uganda

[03/17/12]   Lord, I pray for the graces I need to serve the poor, the hungry, the naked, the sick, the elderly, the dying. Grant me the joy that comes from loving service to you in the needs of others. Amen.

[02/21/12]   Through fasting, almsgiving, and prayer, the forty days of Lent provide us with special opportunities to express solidarity with those who struggle to meet their basic human needs.

[02/08/12]   Charity is the Samaritan who pours oil on the wounds of the traveler who has been attacked. It is justice's role to prevent the attack. -Bl Frederic Ozanam

[02/07/12]   "Charity must never look to the past, but always to the future, because the number of its past works is still very small and the present and future miseries that it must alleviate are infinite." -- Frederic Ozanam

[08/10/11]   The order of society is based on two virtues: justice and charity. However, justice presupposes a lot of love already, for one needs to love a man a great deal in order to respect his rights, which limit our rights, and his liberty, which hampers our liberty. Justice has its limits whereas charity knows none. -Bl Frederic Ozanam
