Jabez did not lead Israel like Moses, he did not kill Goliath like David, but his Prayer life changed everything about him. Do not give on Prayer. Jeremiah 33:3
GOD BLESS YOU
TEACHING FOR SUNDAY, 07 JUNE 2020 FIXING OUR EYES ON JESUS Hebrews 12:1-3: Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, 2 fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith. For the joy set before him he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. 3 Consider him who endured such opposition from sinners, so that you will not grow weary and lose heart. As we continue our topic on handling problems/trials, today we look at ‘fixing our eyes on Jesus’ based on Hebrews 12:1-3 (above). In verse 1, the writer of the book of Hebrews (might be Paul or Apollos) says that we are surrounded by a great cloud of witnesses. Who are these witnesses? If we consider Hebrews 11 which speaks about great men and women who lived and excelled by faith, then we can see that this great cloud of witnesses is those who lived before us and lived by faith. They experienced great trials and hardships but still made it. You think of people like job, Moses, David, Abraham, the prophets etc and we can see men and women that made it. These are the great cloud of witnesses and they are cheering you on. I can imagine them saying, if we made it, you too can make it – be strong Brother/Sister. Therefore, throw our everything that hinders and the sin that easily entangles so that you may run with perseverance. Question 1: What are these things that hinder us? What are the sins that easily entangle us? Verse 2 focusses on fixing your eyes on Jesus. What does it mean to fix your eyes on Jesus? Above all the great cloud of witnesses, the greatest is Jesus – even though he is God, he gave up all his glory and was born as a man. He grew up in hardship – the bible says he learnt obedience through suffering (Hebrews 5:8) and in every step he did not faulter even once. He made it to the end and excelled above them all – therefore he has been given the name above every other name; that at the name of Jesus every knee shall bow and every tongue shall confess that he is Lord – to the glory of God the Father (Philippians 2:10). To fix our eyes on him means therefore; (i) think of him at all times i.e. What Would Jesus Do? (ii) know that he is with you at all times (iii) trust him in every hardship that he will carry you through (iv) remember that he won and will always win, and he is with you (v) pray with him through your struggles. Question 2: In your life how have you made it through struggles you thought would drown you? Verse 3 recounts how Jesus was opposed, persecuted and made to suffer by the very people he came to die for. Our suffering seems worst when it is inflicted by people who intentionally seek to hurt us or even harm us. In Matthew 5:11 the bible says be of good cheer (happy) when men speak all kinds of evil and falsehood against you, for this was done to the prophets of old. Persecution is part of the Christian walk and we should not let it make us weary of lose heart. Remember that your Lord, Jesus Christ went through this and won. And he says, if men opposed me, they will oppose you! Question 3: How should we react when people oppose us because of our faith or speak false things against us? In Conclusion, keep your eyes on Jesus at all times – he will give you the strength and the wisdom to go through every trial and problem and in the end, he will make you victorious. May God bless you and have a wonderful week.
Day 127 of 400 PRAYER IS NOT ESCAPISM Yesterday I listened to the BBC World Service program on 'Heart and Soul'. The topic was about how prayer is helping people during times like these Covid days. I listened with anticipation, excited that they would be talking about prayer on such a platform, but how wrong I was. The angle of the radio presenter was so secular, trying to provide rationale for prayer as a form of escapism used by people who are trying to make sense of times when they are powerless... It left me feeling sad, that prayer had been 'rationalised' to something akin to yoga, meditation etc at a very human level with the view that God was none existent or had any part in the prayer... But I believe the word of God...that prayer is true communication with God...not just to God. That in prayer we truly commune with God. Borrowing the words of pope Francis - prayer is not escapism, it is a fight... James 5:16-18 speaks about Elijah praying earnestly and prevailing with God...for the prayers of a righteous man has a powerful effect. Prayer is truly powerful, and for those who have come to understand it's power, it is a powerful weapon - it moves the hand, and the heart, that moves the world. In prayer we experience the immense power and presence of God that works in us and through us to do good works which God prepared in advance for us to do (Eph 2:10). Dear Lord, we pray for ourselves, for your church, your people in this nation. Oh that we will pray, from the depth of our hearts with such earnestness, determination, passion and commitment to see your work accomplished in this nation. Raise up an army of prayer, a people of power that will see your glory in this nation. Thank you Lord, in Jesus' name, Amen
Day 125 of 400 DWELLING AT HIS ALTAR Psalms 84:3 Yea, the sparrow hath found an house, and the swallow a nest for herself, where she may lay her young, even thine altars, O LORD of hosts, my King, and my God. The psalmist is awed by the sparrow who has chosen to build a nest at the Lord's altar. I think of Samuel, whose bed was laid at the altar of the Lord at a time when the word of God was scarce in Israel...it is there that the Lord spoke to him and called him at a tender age...and acknowledged him as a prophet before men. In Psalms 27:4, David says, one thing I desire of the Lord and that will I seek. That I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life. To gaze upon the beauty of the Lord and to enquire in his temple... There is something about dwelling at his altar, not just being a visitor - but making a home there ... A place that you are not in a hurry to leave, a place where you go to rest from the world and rejuvenate your strength...we normally say East or west, home is best... Today chose to dwell at his altar.... Dear Lord, it is my prayer, just for my heart - that I will love to dwell in your presence. To just be there ..to gaze upon your beauty, to marvel at your greatness and to enquire in your temple.... I recall the words of the song, to be in your presence - part 2: to rest in your presence, not rushing away. To cherish each moment, here I would stay. This is my desire... May our hearts be filled with the longing, the desire to just be at your feet, loving you. In Jesus'name, Amen
Day 121 of 400 SO CLOSE I BELIEVE Today my heart is so encouraged by this old Hillsong originally written by Reuben Morgan, So Close I believe. I'm so secure, You're here with me You stay the same, Your love remains here in my heart So close I believe, You're holding me now In Your hands I belong, You'll never let me go So close I believe, You're holding me now In Your hands I belong, You'll never let me go There is a part in the song that says, all along you were beside me even when I couldn't tell... Such marvelous words of realisation that God is always with us. In Matthew 28:20 he says, I am with you always, even to the end of the age... The world, and world news can make us fear... reports far and near can make us anxious. Even our own circumstances in finances, jobs, work, schooling, plans etc can make us worried - but just remember, he is with you. He will never leave you nor forsake you. Dear Lord, I pray for the nation, that you will be with us. You, and only you make the difference. Keep your children in this nation in faith, in the knowledge that they are not alone, and never will be alone. You, the creator of the world, the ruler of heaven and earth, the healer of every disease, the who owns all silver and gold, the wonderful counsellor, mighty God and Prince of peace, the friend that sticks closer than a brother, the lifter of their heads, the one who delights in them - are always with them. In Jesus'name, Amen
Day 120 of 400 IN CHRIST ALONE... The words of the song, In Christ Alone...give such meaning to the life of faith.. In Christ alone my hope is found He is my light, my strength, my song This Cornerstone, this solid ground Firm through the fiercest drought and storm What heights of love, what depths of peace When fears are stilled, when strivings cease My Comforter, my All in All Here in the love of Christ I stand No guilt in life, no fear in death This is the power of Christ in me From life's first cry to final breath Jesus commands my destiny No power of hell, no scheme of man Can ever pluck me from His hand Till He returns or calls me home Here in the power of Christ I'll stand Dear Lord, I thank you for this powerful song, such wonderful words written from the hearts of your people and sang to you in the glory of your Kingdom...As the words resound, Lord I pray for believers in this nation - that our hope, our strength, our stand shall be in Christ alone. I also pray that you will continue to raise believers in this nation who will write down wonderful words of praise from their hearts, produce songs of worship and faith, movies, books etc that will minister to your people and to this nation and others in this region. In Jesus' name, Amen

Don't Miss!

We saw the plane crash on TV. We would wait for days to know his fate.

[03/12/18]   I am the Risen one who shines upon you always. You worship a living deity, not some idolatrous, man-made image. Your relationship with me is meant to be vibrant and challenging, as I invade more and more of your life.

Do not fear change, for I am making you a new creation, with old things passing away and new things continually on the horizon. When you cling to old ways and sameness, you resist my work within your life. I want you to embrace all that I am doing in your life, finding your security in me alone.

It is easy to make an idol of routine, finding security within the boundaries you build around your life. Although each day contains 24hours, every single one presents a unique set of circumstances.

Don’t try to force-fit today into yesterday’s mold, instead, ask me to open your eyes so you can find all I have prepared for you in this precious day of life.

Today was the opening of the church branch and we had the first service in Seeta - Kigunga of Life Ministries Christian Centre - LMCC.
Do not despise the days of humble begging.... Was the sermon for the day.
Church was full and a lady who gave her life to Christ the day before at one of the Crusades attended.
Several other believers joined us...
We give glory to God.
