The plot against Daniel;
Text: Daniel 6:1-28

What? A government official who cannot be corrupted? You must be
joking! Yet, here we have one single strong Prophet of God who stood up to pressure and was faithful in all things (vv.4-5) . By this time, Daniel had probably been a respected public servant for 50 years, yet in all that time he followed God’s law consistently.

No, he was not sinless as Jesus, but he had a perfect record in public service. Do you and I take our promises and our work this seriously? Once again his commitment to obey Yahweh above all else has a personal cost, and his life is threatened.

Daniel respected and obeyed God’s law, while upholding that of the country he lived in. King Darius had to do the same (vv.25-27). Therefore, the people expected that Darius had nothing else to do but condemn Daniel to death...or so he feared. But King Darius does something amazing of a king: he fasts and prays for Daniel! The Lord always honored Daniel in his public ministry and was once again faithful to protect him from dangerous politics. Darius the Mede had learned what the Babylonians had failed to learn. By God’s Grace, both men were overjoyed at the miraculous intervention of the God whom Daniel feared and worshipped. All of this was because a God fearing man chose to pray faithfully everyday. May the Lord give us the grace.

Meditate on verses 4-5. What is God teaching you in those verses? How are you going to apply them to your life?
Heavenly Father, help me to stand firm against any temptations that come my way. Give me victory over the devil and his demons. In the name of Jesus Christ I have prayed. Amen.

King Belshazzar defiles the vessels of the Lord;
Text: Daniel 5:1-31

Very often the lessons of the father are not passed on to his sons. Yet when God reveals His truth then there is the requirement of honoring and following Him. To know the truth holds you accountable to it! A generation or more passes and the lessons of Nebuchadnezzar are lost. His heir, Belshazzar was not a popular king; yet in full view of his court he drinks to get drunk. And how does he do this? By using the very holy and sacred cups and bowls used for worship in the Holy Place of the Temple (vv.3, 5). Not only were they used for sin, they were used for pagan idolatry.

I can think of no other greater insult to Yahweh than this! It should be no surprise to us that a Holy and Righteous God would not allow this to go unpunished. The hand writing on the wall was not understood, but its implications were disturbing; therefore, Daniel enters into government service once again:
Never in history has anyone insulted God or His people and escaped His justice.

Daniel has every right to tell the king in his face that he was accountable to the One true God, who his forefathers knew and experienced His truth and power. If God had shown His judgement before, since when could any other king after believe that he could insult Him without judgement? (vv.22-23, 26-28, 30). Not only did he lose his life, but he lost the entire Kingdom, for the next day saw the rise of the Medo-Persian Kingdom, or Empire, all counted.

When we handle the very truth of God’s Word, we must be very sober and serious people. To ignore, mishandle, and lie about what God has revealed in His Word has serious consequences. Absolutely no one can escape the demands of the truth.
We must use what we know to be true with great care.
Meditate on verses 22-23. What is God teaching you in these verses? How are you going to respond to them?

My heavenly Father, in the name of Jesus Christ, forgive me for the many times I have defiled Your Holy Name. Cleanse me with the blood of Jesus Christ. Amen.

Daniel counsels the King;
Text: Daniel 4:1-37

In two fantastic miraculous events, Nebuchadnezzar had seen the power of God.
Even now, as Daniel hears of this second dream, the King is fully aware that the One true God governs the kingdoms of this earth. Yet knowledge of the true God is never enough. You might observe His power, but it is an entirely different thing to experience it for yourself. Signs, wonders and miracles have always been used to bring humility and a change of heart and mind. God’s power is not used so that we have political or public power; but to show how dependent we are on Him and how we must be humble and seek character change via His power. The king has not yet understood this, and once again Daniel is needed to help him understand
what God is communicating to him. That is why Daniel wisely tells him.
Daniel has experienced for himself the wonderful mercy of God in the previous chapters, therefore, he is fully convinced that Nebuchadnezzar can also receive this blessing (v.27). He cannot force the king to be humble, even as respected and influential as he may be. The king has been warned in this powerful dream, and the consequences for stubbornness are clearly revealed. The three previous miraculous events should have been enough to impact this stubborn man; but he would not listen and obey.

It took seven long years for the king to “wake up”. The Scriptures warn us time and again, that sin has consequences; “whatsoever a man sows, that will he also reap” (Gal. 6:7). The king had more signs and wonders than most of us will ever experience, but he would not submit to God’s way. Because God loves His children, He will use whatever discipline is necessary to wake us up and move us forward. It took seven years, but Nebuchadnezzar finally understood, that Yahweh was to be worshipped and obeyed, not merely recognised. What will your heavenly Father do for you in order to get you to wake up? Pray that you will awaken soon before the cost of stubbornness becomes too high.

Meditate on verse 27. How are you going to apply it to your life and to your
leaders?
King of kings in heaven, in the name of Jesus Christ, I pray You give me the power and boldness to share with some of my leaders the need for them to repent. Amen.

Daniel and his friends disobey the king;
Text: Daniel 3:1-30

Knowing the future is never enough for those who are addicted to power. They will always try to control the flow of events so as to guarantee their own power in the future. The dream that Daniel interpreted did not convince the king to trust in God’s control of events. He wanted to make sure that whatever happened in his kingdom in the future he would be the one in control. This is at core, the basic pillar of idolatry, that is, trusting in anyone or in anything else other than the one true God revealed in the Bible. It’s never about the content that one may desire for themselves in social media or in any public form. It’s always about perception: “You must think about me as a great person!” Because we choose fear over trust in God, we demand to control what other people think of us.

Nebuchadnezzar demanded to control the thinking of others.
It is truly amazing that when one is addicted to power, even their own friends are not safe. Even though the king had observed truly awesome divine power displayed through these brilliant young men, it was never enough to humble him before the One true God. When you fail to acknowledge God’s Sovereignty, you are forced to act upon the one remaining lie. That is, you are forced to demand power and authority that were never yours. It was an ugly choice of injustice and irrational behavior to insist upon the death of trustworthy servants of God.

These extraordinary brave young men, who had proven themselves while still in school, were once again faced with death. Yet the threat of death as fearful as it might be, was not stronger than their fear of Almighty God. In the history of the church, this is how the Gospel moves forward. It is only when brave men and women stand up for the truth, regardless of personal cost, that the Gospel powerfully moves forward in the world.
Praise Jesus! It was none other than the second Person of the Trinity, the Holy Son of God, who stood with these extraordinary brave young men! (vv.25). Christ revealed Himself in a few cases in the Old Testament, and this one is amazing!

Many people in history have been willing to die for the cause of Christ, but when it is in the perfect will and plan of God, He powerfully chooses to intervene in order to show His power and the truth of the Gospel. The wonderful result of this event was the freedom to worship Yahweh in the empire! Daniel and his friends were to be very necessary for the future preservation of the Jews. Yahweh had promised that He would restore them to their home, and so in the powerful preservation of that plan, He miraculously intervened.

You and I stand upon the shoulders of giants in the faith, people who counted the cost and realized that death is to be preferred rather than compromise. Are you ready today to be that strong for Christ? Pray that you will grow to have that strength!

Meditate on verse 18. How are you going to apply it to your Life?
Father in heaven, I choose to obey only You. I pray You stand by me in the
midst of temptations and keep me from worshipping other gods. In the name of Jesus Christ I have prayed. Amen.

King Nebuchadnezzar’s dream;
Text: Daniel 2:1-49

The thing that the king asks is difficult, and no one can reveal it to the king except the gods, whose dwelling is not with flesh” (verse 3). The Kingdom of God is coming! But it may not come in the way that you would like it to. The King is under pressure during this time because his empire is growing fast; people as always are thirsty for power. Nebuchadnezzar shows that he is insecure and demands the impossible: “first tell what I dreamt, and then interpret it for me.”

He knows that he is surrounded by typically corrupt officials seeking political influence. But the dream is so horrible that he needs real answers, and even these pagan magicians realise that only divine power can reveal the truth. This shows that politicians cannot come up with their own reality, they too rely on God alone for the truth of what lies ahead. These are issues of life and death.

One powerful dream is answered by another. Why? Because of verse 21. He changes times and seasons; He removes kings and sets up kings; He gives wisdom to the wise and knowledge to those who have understanding. Daniel blesses God because He is showing both mercy and His power to direct the history of the nations (vv.17-19). He also sees for the first time clearly why Yahweh would allow him to suffer as he did in his youth, so that now he would bring the light of truth to power. Daniel now sees his proper place in the world, as a servant of the most high God, and in so doing he also becomes an effective servant to those in power above him, and those who are vulnerable below him.
Praise God for such humility!

The King is right to be afraid, for he has just been reminded of the brutal truth that all powers must face: their time is short (vv.35,44). Four successive Kingdoms that follow Nebuchadnezzar’s are revealed, but all of them will fall apart like any other. Then is the human race doomed to constant political chaos? NO! For God Himself will establish an eternal Kingdom with a power that no other can resist or stop. The stone that is mentioned here is none other than Christ! (Acts 4:11). The Kingdom of God, is indeed, coming! It is His eternal plan and the best
possible thing to come for all of us! What are you doing to promote it and to be a part of its growing power and influence in the world?

Meditate on verse 11. What is God teaching you in this verse? How are you going to apply it to your life?
Almighty Father in heaven, in the name of Jesus Christ, I prayerfully declare that You are the author of everything. Honour, power and glory belong to You alone. Amen.
