A family Church in the city

_Pr. Stephen Patrick Achillah_

One serious teaching in Deliverance Church Uganda (DCU), is that: we need to deal with our *_Evil Spiritual Foundations._* These can be summarized as generational curses and iniquities in our backgrounds, which come from *_“a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children to the third and fourth generations of those who hate Him”_* (Ex. 20:5). In other words: there is a stubborn cob-web pattern of background-evil of idolatry and other sins in our individual lives and homes – through those three or four generations, that needs a thorough mapping-out, so as to get full deliverance. *And who knows how long this research and revelatory process may take?*

However, this teaching has not always sat comfortably with all DCU believers. Serious questions have been asked as follows: *_“Do we have to deal with evil foundations as a life-long exercise? And can we tell when healing or deliverance has come to us? Furthermore, will this emphasis not rob us of our confident walk in salvation? And where do we put Scriptures that suggest instant deliverances?”_* For example, in Gal. 3:13-14, we learn that at the cross, *_“Christ – redeemed us from the curse of the law, having become a curse for us – that the blessing of Abraham might come – [upon us] in Christ Jesus – [to] receive the promise of the Spirit through faith.”_*

*_All of us have to grapple with, and linger at this teaching – like a dog at his bone!_* And as we gnaw at our bones, may God help us exercise *_“agape-love,”_* lest we *_“bite – one another, [and] be consumed!”_* (Gal. 5:14-15). The central need for balance is apparent here. First of all, we need to know that *_the Moral Law_* presented as the 10 Commandments (Exod. 20:1ff.) – *_is always applicable to all human beings._* Only Christ as a human being sinlessly obeyed this moral law. So, we believers receive Christ’s *_“righteousness and sanctification”_* instantaneously and legally – as God’s *_“new creation”._* (1 Cor. 1:30; 2 Cor. 5:17).

Secondly however, the believer must personally experience that *_daily process_* of *_“reckoning” – “knowing”_* – and *_“presenting”_* himself or herself as *_“a living sacrifice, holy, [and] acceptable to God”_* (Rom. 6:6,11,13; 12:1). This righteous-character- *_growth_* is a *_process_* called sanctification – unto holiness (1 Pet. 1:13-16).

If generational patterns of evil follow us and our families, they may need *_a process of research, revelation, recognition, repentance, renunciation, and revoking, so that we can get full restoration_* (e.g. Dan. 9:2-19; Neh. 1:4-9). This process should not rob us of a confident and joyful walk in the Lord. Rather, it should help us take care and *_“think soberly”_* according to our God-given *_“measure of faith”_* (Rom. 12:3).

One interpretation of the operation of the *_“gifts of healings”_* and *_“discerning of spirits”_* (1 Cor. 12:9-10) is to see these gifts embracing deliverance from generational curses and iniquities. Possibly the *_“spirit of wisdom and revelation”,_* also addresses such deliverances: as the saints increasingly get *_“enlightened”:_* to *_“know”_* their God-given *_“riches”_* and *_“mighty power”_* (Eph. 1:17-19).

_Pr. Stephen Patrick Achillah_

When renowned Missionary Statesman *Oswald J. Smith* who lived and served in the early part of the last Century was about to die, he wondered whether there would be another crowd pulling crusade ministry like his own. Then Evangelist *Billy Graham* rose up to national and international prominence. That gave joy to the older man of God: that God had gotten Himself a vessel to continue stirring-up masses for salvation.

*_One of God’s Standard Operational Procedures is that: once one of His choice servants moves on to glory, He causes a continuation of this servant’s work, as the baton is passed on, or as the mantle falls._* God’s purpose is that the work of His Kingdom is always moving on – from generation to generation. Over the past 20-plus years, we’ve had a number of eminent servants of God going to glory. These include among others: *Kenneth Haggin, Derek Prince, John RW Stott, Oral Roberts, TL Osborn, Billy Graham, C. Peter Wagner, Ravi Zacharias, Morris Cerullo, and J I Packer.*

We can believe that God is in the business of causing the batons and mantles of ministry to be passed on well – to ready and continuing ministers. That is how *the sworn covenant of God with Israel moved on in confirmation: from Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob.* God’s will was that it should transcend generations in Israel – in an *“everlasting covenant”* manner (Psalm 105:9,10). *When an Elijah is “raptured” to heaven, God purposes that his mantle should fall on a ready Elisha.* Then Elisha should *“[take] up the mantle of Elijah,”* and stand boldly – doing ministry. Such a continuing minister needs to know, believe and confess that: *“the – God of Elijah [is with me. – [And] the spirit of Elijah rests [on me]”* (1 Kings 2:13-16).

When Jesus our Lord went to heaven, His disciples continued running steadily: with the same ministry baton and mantle. Jesus had told them: *_“As my Father hath sent me, even so send I you”_* (John 20:21 KJV). We also carry that ultimate baton and mantle today. Yet God has also designed father–son relationships among His chosen people: like that of *Moses–Joshua;* and Paul–Timothy. In one Modern (early 20th Century) Pentecostal Church history account, *Maria Woodworth Etter* (d. 1925), was a spiritual mother: moving together in the same time segment as *Charles F. Parham and William J. Seymour,* who were the spiritual fathers. She is said to have passed on the ministry mantle to *Aimee Semple McPherson* (d. 1944). That ministry mantle then fell upon *Kathryn Kuhlman* (d. 1976), and from Kuhlman to *Benny Hinn* (still living).

*_In these special times when batons are being handed over, and mantles are falling, all of us as believers and God’s choice servants – at our various levels of ministry – should desire that God continually protects us from bungling the process._* Let not our lack of *“understanding – the times, to know what [we] ought to do” be our pit-fall* (1 Chron. 12:32).

_Pr. Stephen Patrick Achillah_

Nearly 2624 years ago, a special prophetic word came to the children of God in their Babylonian exile. God through Prophet Jeremiah said to them in summary: *“Seek the welfare of the City and Nation of Babylon; and pray for them”* (Jer. 29:7a). _That work-plan was the most beneficial and most logical for God’s people to implement. For God said,_ *_“if things go well for Babylon, things will go well for you”_* (Jer. 29:7b TMB).

A daughter of Deliverance Church Uganda has just assumed office as the Executive Director of KCCA, which is no mean achievement! Kampala is the Capital City and Central Authority Citadel of the Republic of Uganda. _God is speaking emphatically to us as a Church Family, as He spoke to the Israelites several thousands years ago:_ *_“DCU-Family, seek the welfare of [Kampala] City and the Nation of [Uganda]; and pray for them.” For “if things go well for [Uganda], things will go well for you!”_*

Since our very own family member has been thrust into that prominent position of overseeing the *“work for the [City’s] and Nation’s welfare,”* all of us in DCU have also been thrust into that same prominent position of authority as Mrs. Dorothy Kisaka – “for better or for worse; for richer or for poorer”! She has pledged among other things, to work for the welfare of our City – in safety and unity.

So now, we have to stand together with Mrs. Dorothy Kisaka in the thick of things. We cannot be mere commentators and critics – detached, standing by and looking in from the outside – vigorously lamenting about the sad and the bad things in both City and Nation. And we will have cause to sincerely rejoice with her: when things go well. As a DCU-Family, if she succeeds, we succeed. And if she fails, we fail! *_So we had better up our game: both in exemplary conscientious work and critical prayer!_*

Another matter that should grab our attention is the fact that *_the first officially recorded death of a native Ugandan patient with Covid-19 occurred in our own facility as DCU._* A prophetic message presented for us to consider – is that this gate of first occurrence pushes us into the forefront of responsibility as far as the battle against this enemy-pandemic is concerned: victoriously taking charge of it at *“the gate”* (Gen. 22:17b). *Again, it seems that God’s emphasis is to push us into the frontline of things in our Country.*

The challenging Word of God to us is this: *“I know what I'm doing. I have it all planned out — plans to take care of you – [and] to give you the future you hope for. When you call on Me – and pray to Me, I'll listen. – When you get serious about finding Me and want it more than anything else, I'll make sure you won't be disappointed. – I'll turn things around for you.* (Jer. 29:11-14 TMB). May this Word propel us forward. 26/07/2020

Some time back, we said that “God plays the last card by delivering the winning blow against the enemy. Many times, the Devil seems to be winning in the beginning of the story of history – as he plays his wicked card-games. But the reality is, God’s righteous cause always wins at last, as He throws the Last card.

The fact that Deliverance and judgment walk side by side is another way of saying that God plays the last card. The enemy delivers what he thinks is the winning blow, then God delivers the real winning blow, as He judges the enemy. God clearly operates on the principle of justice: of not “slaying the righteous with the wicked” (Gen. 18:25). Scripture instructs us to have this balanced view of God. He travels in a chariot of two wheels – called “gentle kindness and ruthless severity”. These “wheel” – attributes of God “exist side by side” (Rom. 11:22 TMB).

We see these wheel-attributes of God moving side-by-side at the very beginning of time. Some angels sinned, got chained, and now await eternal judgment (2 Pet. 2:4). This angelic rebellion and judgment was happening while holy angels were being preserved. In our human context, God’s full-blown judgment usually comes upon blatantly idolatrous people who have become abominable. It is a very sad time when God gives people “up” and “over” (Vv. 24, 26, 27) – as being beyond His deliverance, and deserving only His judgment. “God [gives them] over to a debased mind, to do – things which are not fitting; being filled with all unrighteousness, sexual immorality, wickedness, [etc.]” (Rom. 1:28-31).

In the days of Noah, “the earth also was corrupt before God. – And God said to Noah, ‘The end – has come – behold, I will destroy [all flesh]” (Gen. 6:11-13). “Only – eight souls [including] Noah – in the ark remained alive” (Gen. 7:23-24; 1 Peter 3:20). Similarly, God delivered Israel from Egypt after the “four hundred years” God had told Abraham. So, “in the fourth generation,” Abraham’s descendants returned and conquered the wicked nations: “for their iniquity – [was] complete” (Gen. 15:13,16). Again, “in the days of righteous Lot,” the latter is delivered by God, while S***m and Gomorrah burn under God’s judgment (Gen. 19:29; Luke 17:28; 2 Pet. 2:7).

All these scenarios are “examples to those who – would live ungodly” (2 Pet. 2:6). Our ultra-modern Western World is warned. With its nearly full-blown evils of idolatry, greed, sexual perversion, etc. – it has been described as Post-Christian, Apostate, and Cut Flower: being already under God’s judgment. Also in our own Third World context, we are not faring much better: having some of these abominations.

In this window of God’s end-time revival before His end-time judgment, it is time to plead that God “in wrath remembers mercy!” (Hab. 3:2). May God save us from the “Lot's wife” syndrome of defying God’s instructions, marking time, looking back in love of this evil-age, and “passing away” with it (Luke 17:32; 1 Jn. 2:17).

Derek Prince, who has been a Bible Teacher of global renown, made a serious statement on the matter of the healing of a nation. He said (in paraphrase): If the land and nation in which the believers live is not healed, then these believers are to fully carry the blame. It is the believers’ full responsibility to ensure that their land is healed. This is the definition of their role as “the salt of the earth” (according to Matt 5:13; Mk. 9:50; & Luke. 14:34,35) – to season or flavor the land, and to keep it from corruption. Prince was commenting on the famous 2 Chron. 7:14 text – “If My people, who are called by My name, will humble themselves and pray and seek My face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and heal their land” (NKJV, our emphasis).

Without a doubt, we can all agree that our land needs a healing! The evidence is everywhere. Sometimes the Ruling Party and the Opposition have been so diametrically opposed in approaches, that confrontations both in and out of Parliament have sometimes erupted into violence. The Election campaigns have often escalated into mud-slinging, violence and sometimes death. There have also been killings of certain persons in both high and low classes, including both the young and the old. Furthermore, we have had a prevalence of satanic shrine consultations, drunkenness, sexual perversions, poor living conditions, epidemics, etc.

In the recently concluded Intercessors for Uganda Conference, a step in the right direction of healing our land was taken – in identification repentance over the evil of the Slave Trade. It was rightly observed that some of our sufferings now are the result of living the curses from the persons who were dragged away crying and cursing – being sold into the torturous life of slavery. Moreover, God Himself has pronounced curses on persons perpetrating this trade. God said: “I will give them into the hand of their enemies and into the hand of those who seek their life” (Jer. 34:20). All of us have known in some way that we have suffered – and are still suffering in some degrees – from colonialism, neo-colonialism and imperialism. Although these words may be big words to some of us, yet we can say that they are simply a commentary on the verse we have just quoted – being under the domination of our “enemies” (who come in subtle ways as wolves in sheeps’ clothing).

We as the redeemed community of The Lord are the only ones who can – through prophetic perception, prayer, perseverance, penitence, and practical work – bring the desired healing of our land. This healing and revival comes in the form of peaceable and profitable living – as we enjoy serving the Lord and our fellows. “At that time, everyone will get along with one another, with friendly visits across the fence, friendly visits on one another's porches" (Zechariah 3:10 THE MESSAGE).

We are praying

Glory be to the Lord for a new day, another opportunity to fall at His feet.
DAY :7 Fasting and Prayer.

May the Young people hear and respond to the call of the Lord in their days. (1 Sam. 3; 16:7;11-13;Jer 1:1-8; Eccl. 12:1-7; 1Tim.4:12-16)

Earlier today, various representatives from Media houses were briefed in a press conference ahead of the #DCat50 celebrations

Our General Overseer, Pastor Edward Kiwanuka made these opening remarks,

"This year 2017 marks the 50th anniversary of Deliverance Church Uganda (DCU) and to commemorate this great milestone, DCU family has organised three days of thanksgiving and jubilation. We ought to thank God for the far He has brought us and we say Ebenezer.
We celebrate God’s goodness and faithfulness.

To be in ministry for 50 years is an extremely gratifying and humbling experience. There is no doubt that if it had not been the grace of God, we wouldn’t have got this far. So we give God all the glory, honour and praise for sustaining the Deliverance Church Ministry for the last 50 years.

To all those that have served, supported and stood with us, may God greatly bless you.
We are looking forward to growing a ministry that is focused on teaching the Word of God as well as promoting the actualisation of the Kingdom of God here on earth."
