“A BETTER TOMORROW”
BY
RANDALL J. BREWER

The clock is ticking again! I say that because for the past couple of weeks time had seemed to stand still for me. I felt like I was in a state of limbo and the world was going on without me. Life is a journey and if some type of progress is not being made on a daily basis then I get uncomfortable and start asking questions. The Lord answered my inquiries by reminding me of Ps. 46:10, “Be still and know that I am God.” I now realize that limbo is the state of “being still” and it is this condition that God will reveal Himself to me as God.

I am now convinced that behind the scenes the Lord is doing a very powerful work. What it is exactly has not yet been revealed to me but a heavy burden has been lifted off my shoulders and the past several days have flown by faster than normal. Hope has been restored and I feel more freedom than I have in a long, long time.

The Lord recently shared a vision with me during a Saturday night service of praise and worship. I was in a large desert, where the ground was dry and broken into a million little pieces. This, I knew, represented my life for the past three years. We have experienced a continual, unending cycle of trials and unrelenting hardships. They are unexplainable in human terms and have left my family and I battered and bruised. We have been Christians long enough to know that a valley is not a bad place to be if you and Jesus are going through it together.

A noted evangelist once said, “We discover early in life that things don’t always turn out the way we planned. But we also discover that through tests and trials, and the way of the storm, a bonding takes place with God that we never knew before.” Not once did I waver in my walk with the Lord although I occasionally raised my arms in mock surrender and asked aloud, “When is it all going to end?”

In the vision I then looked down and saw a single blade of grass growing up out of one of these cracks in the desert floor. I knew this represented life, a symbol that light can indeed shine in the darkness. I then looked up and saw not too far ahead of me the edge of a massive mountain range. To reach those mountains and the victory they represent, I knew I must keep going forward. It was the life in that single blade of grass that gave me the hope and courage to do just that.

I now realize that my journey through this long dry spell in life is nearly over. I am reminded of the story of Elijah when he prayed for rain after three and a half years of drought. Several times he sent his servant to check the horizon for rain clouds. When none were seen the prophet prayed all the more earnestly until finally the servant returned and reported a small gathering of clouds about the size of a hand. That’s all Elijah needed to hear. Rain was coming! None was falling at the time but what the servant had seen foretold what was to come. This is what hope does for you. It foresees a better tomorrow and this gives you strength and determination to make it through whatever you may be facing today.

For years I have lived my life saying that each day is the best day of my life. I live one day at a time and I make the most of each day the Lord has given me. But what about tomorrow? I believe we should live for today and hope for a better tomorrow. If one does not believe that tomorrow will be better than today when today is full of hurt and pain, then why go on at all? The enemy’s number one goal is to rob you of all your hope because this is what your faith is applied to. “Faith is the substance of things hoped for.” No hope, no faith. No faith, no victory.

The absence of hope will steal from you what can be a promising future. The absence of hope is the greatest contributing factor in all divorces and suicides. The Bible says not to worry about tomorrow but surely we can use hope to believe for a better tomorrow. For some this could be considered an act of survival. David wrote in Ps. 27:13, “I would have lost heart unless I had believed that I would see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living.”

The theme of the Broadway musical “Annie” was that one could always hope for a better tomorrow. The red-headed orphan would sing, “The sun will come out tomorrow….it’s only a day away.” If your world seems to be collapsing around you then hold on and put all your hope in the living God and believe for a better tomorrow. Hope gives you the assurance that out of sorrow and pain, when borne patiently and truthfully, comes the more abundant life.

Rejoice in the words of the apostle Paul in Rom. 5:5, “Now hope does not disappoint because the love of God has been poured out in our hearts by the Holy Spirit Who was given to us.” Hallelujah! Finally, don’t only use hope when days are bad. Use it when things are going good for you as well. Michael Jordan once scored fifty-five points in a championship game and was asked if that was the best game of his career. He replied, “I don’t know if that was the best game of my career or not. Hopefully the next game will be the best game of my career.” Friend, may hope fill your heart and cause you to believe for a better tomorrow. It’s there for the taking. After all, it’s only a day away.
I love my church and every one in it especially the elders , pastors and the missionary team.

Finding Joy at Christmas
By: Pastor Richard Senkungu

The year has been what it is: Sad, Difficult, Unprecedented, Unreal, Uncertain. We have lost loved ones, jobs, business, school time, etc. It is probably nothing like anyone has ever thought or predicted.
Added to that are the uncertain seasons of the elections that our country is going through.
With all that said, I believe that this Christmas season, Jesus wants to remind us that He is the source of all Joy. In the midst of a difficult season, we can choose to find Joy this Christmas.
One of the hallmarks of Christmas and Jesus’ coming is the message of Great Joy as was pronounced by the Angel to the Shepherds:

Luke 2:9-11 (NASB)
9 And an angel of the Lord suddenly stood near them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them; and they were terribly frightened. 10 And so the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid; for behold, I bring you good news of great joy which will be for all the people; 11 for today in the city of David there has been born for you a Savior, who is Christ the Lord.

- Do Not be Afraid
- There is Great News of Great Joy
- A Savior, Jesus Christ has been born

For our working Definition of Joy, I want to borrow from what a Pastor Friend of mine said:

“Joy is the state of delight and well-being that results from knowing and serving God.”

Romans 15:13 (NLT)
13 I pray that God, the source of hope, will fill you completely with joy and peace because you trust in him. Then you will overflow with confident hope through the power of the Holy Spirit.

If there was a season for us to need some good news, now is the time!

Why we do not find Joy?

Let’s relate to the story of the wise men from the East. How did the Magi discover true joy as illustrated from this one verse:

Matthew 2:10: 10 When they saw the star, they were filled with joy!
1. We Look for the Wrong Thing
Matthew 2:1-2
2 Jesus was born in Bethlehem in Judea, during the reign of King Herod. About that time some wise men[a] from eastern lands arrived in Jerusalem, asking, 2 “Where is the newborn king of the Jews? We saw his star as it rose,[b] and we have come to worship him.”

True Joy Begins from looking for the real deal – Looking for Jesus! Once our search is wrong, the answers that we get for life are all the aggregation. Once the search is wrong (abinitio) from the start, the answer cannot be right.

If you would sum up all your search for life, what would it amount to? For many of us it is money, women, marriage, relationships, kids, more land, fame, power etc.

The Magi knew from the first step they took that they were looking for the Newborn King. Their search was simple: “Where is He…” How would you summarize your own search?

True Joy is found in pursuing the source of all true joy – Jesus.

2. We Look in the Wrong Places

Matthew 2:3-10
3 King Herod was deeply disturbed when he heard this, as was everyone in Jerusalem. 4 He called a meeting of the leading priests and teachers of religious law and asked, “Where is the Messiah supposed to be born?”
5 “In Bethlehem in Judea,” they said, “for this is what the prophet wrote:

6 ‘And you, O Bethlehem in the land of Judah,
are not least among the ruling cities[c] of Judah,
for a ruler will come from you
who will be the shepherd for my people Israel.’[d]”

7 Then Herod called for a private meeting with the wise men, and he learned from them the time when the star first appeared. 8 Then he told them, “Go to Bethlehem and search carefully for the child. And when you find him, come back and tell me so that I can go and worship him, too!”
9 After this interview the wise men went their way. And the star they had seen in the east guided them to Bethlehem. It went ahead of them and stopped over the place where the child was. 10 When they saw the star, they were filled with joy!
Many People are searching for God but are hoping to find Him in a multitude of different places: Religion, Doing Good and Charitable things, Pleasing Him, Religious activity.
Jesus is not in the empty magnificent beauty of our man-made endeavors; He is in the simplicity of a relationship with Him. Joy is not in the result of the outward work; it is the fruit of a true deep relationship with God.
3. We Don’t Give to God the Contents of our Heart - Worship
Matthew 2:11-12
11 They entered the house and saw the child with his mother, Mary, and they bowed down and worshiped him. Then they opened their treasure chests and gave him gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh.
12 When it was time to leave, they returned to their own country by another route, for God had warned them in a dream not to return to Herod.
What if the wise-men stayed with their gifts when they came to Jesus.
Many people have encountered the LORD, become born-again but are not willing to come before Him in worship. They would rather stay with their hands full than pour out what they came with before the LORD.

This Christmas, I invite you to make an exchange with God: Give Him what is in your heart.

Baby Jesus was given Three gifts:
Gold: - For He is the King of Kings
Frankincense: - For He is the High Priest
Myrrh:- A substance used to embalm the dead.

We worship Him because He is King and He is our Priest. We also present to Him the contents that took Him to the cross – our own brokenness. Would you consider also giving Him all you are.

Conclusion:
The Greatest Gift that we can give to Jesus is the gift of our lives completely. If you seek for Joy in this season, respond to the invitation of Jesus:
When you look for the right thing, look in the right places, and give the right gift, you will have joy at Christmas.

Philippians 4:4-7
4 Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice! 5 Let your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near. 6 Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. 7 And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

HOPE IN THE DARKNESS: |“JESUS CHRIST AS THE HOPE THAT HAS COME.”| Text; John 3:16-17, Luke 4:18-19

HOPE IN THE DARKNESS:
“JESUS CHRIST AS THE HOPE THAT HAS COME.”
Text; John 3:16-17, Luke 4:18-19

Introduction

Last Sunday we were reassured by God’s word that ‘There is Hope in hopelessness’ if we put total trust in God; His word, His power as well as prayer.

My question to us is, “What is God's answer to the hopelessness world today and in particular to us hearing this message?

John 3:16-17 NKJV For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved.

Today we want to look at, “JESUS CHRIST AS THE HOPE THAT HAS COME.”

Luke 4:18-19 NKJV 18 “The Spirit of the LORD is upon me,
Because He has anointed me
To preach the gospel to the poor;
He has sent me to heal the brokenhearted,
To proclaim liberty to the captives
And recovery of sight to the blind,
To set at liberty those who are oppressed;
19 To proclaim the acceptable year of the LORD.”

After overcoming the devil`s temptations in the wilderness Jesus returned in power of the Holy Spirit to Nazareth where He was born and raised. On the Sabbath day while in the synagogue, Jesus publically declared His purpose for which His father had sent Him into the world.

In John 3:17, Jesus Christ is the Hope in the hopelessness of the world, we are in.
Categories of people who qualify to receive hope from Jesus Christ:
1. The broken hearted – Luke 4:18
“He has sent me to heal the broken hearted.”
Who are the broken hearted?
These are believers in the church but because of what is happening in the world, their hearts are broken. They see no future!
• You are faithfully serving in the church
• You are faithful in tithing and offering
• You have been genuinely earning your living
• You are faithful in taking care of your family
• You love and reach out to the brethren
• You share the gospel with others.
But since the pandemic hit things have turned around and how do you feel
• Your finances have dropped
• May be you lost your job or investment
• Somebody you trusted has let you down
• Whatever the cause you are asking yourself, “GOD did I deserve all this? Why me?”
I might not have the answers to these questions but Jesus came to heal the broken hearted.
2. The captives
“To proclaim liberty to the captives and recovery of all sight to the blind.”
• These are people who knew the way of life but somehow lost it. Their sight has been blinded, they cannot see the way of truth anymore. They are prisoners.
• They have back slide, stuck wondering what to do
• It could have been from the cares of the world or issues at hand
• You involved yourself in destructive habits like alcohol abuse, fornication
• You took loans you cannot pay
• You are in ungodly relationships
• You involve yourself in false religion
• You are being harassed by demonic forces
3. The oppressed
“To set at liberty those who are oppressed.”
Who are the oppressed?
You are there and you have never known the way of life. You have been in the kingdom of darkness all your life. You are oppressed.
• Demons torment and harass you as well as your family members
• You suffer from demonic dreams, sicknesses
• You are constantly harassed by evil spirits
• Whatever you decide to do fails
• You are literally a prisoner of the devil together with His behavior.
How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit with power, who went about doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil for God was with Him. Acts 10:38
That same power to set the oppressed free is still available for you.

Jesus in Luke 4:19 Concludes and says
 “To proclaim the acceptable year of the LORD.”
This year 2020 has been a bad year but Hope has come.
Whatever you are being challenged in, I am here to tell you that Jesus is the answer. He is the one who can save us from that hopelessness.
• Are you there and are broken hearted?
• Are you here and have never given your life to Christ?
• Are you in bo***ge?
Hope has come and Jesus Christ is the Hope of the world! Surrender and respond to this invitation:
Come to me all you who labor and are heavy hearted and I will give you rest Matthew 11:28
