Text: John 3:16-21 NIV

“For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him. Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because they have not believed in the name of God’s one and only Son. This is the verdict: Light has come into the world, but people loved darkness instead of light because their deeds were evil. Everyone who does evil hates the light, and will not come into the light for fear that their deeds will be exposed. But whoever lives by the truth comes into the light, so that it may be seen plainly that what they have done has been done in the sight of God.”
‭‭John‬ ‭3:16-21‬ ‭NIV‬‬

Paano Aahon sa Depresyon

1. Admit that we are weak (v4) -the Lord wants to be updated with us; He knows everything about us but He wants intimacy with us; when se admit our weakness we recognize that we need the Lord’s guidance

2. Cooperate with the Lord (v5) -the Lord will provide the strength that we need with our journey

3. Do extraordinary things even if you are “just an ordinary” (v11)

This Sunday’s message: Mga Marka ng Tagasunod ng Panginoon (Mateo 13:1-23)
#MarkadoSaPanginoon

[08/30/19]   QUESTION: Why should we surrender every single thing to the Lord rather than to just have faith in Him?

ANSWER: Your question makes it sound as if FAITH is something passive, but we read in James 2:26 that “faith without works is dead.” This means that if there is true faith in the Lord Jesus Christ, good works will follow. Earlier James made the case that our faith is revealed to others through our works, “But someone will say, ‘You have faith, and I have works.’ Show me your faith without your works, and I WILL SHOW YOU MY FAITH BY MY WORKS” (verse 18). James is teaching us that a LIVING FAITH results in GOOD WORKS that will be SEEN BY OTHERS, thus proving to them the reality of our faith.

When we speak of “good works,” it refers to many things and would surely include “surrendering every single thing to the Lord.” In Proverbs 23:29 we read, “My son, give me your heart.” In these few words we see the Lord asking every “child of God” (i.e. those who have been “born again” into God’s family…see John 1:12) to “surrender their heart to Him.” That is the greatest thing we can give to the Lord, for in giving Him our heart we are surrendering our whole being to Him (body, soul and spirit). I suggest it also means we are willing to surrender our time, our talents, our money, and whatever else He has blessed us with, for once we give Him ourselves, it will be easy to give Him everything we have.

A beautiful example of this is found in 2nd Corinthians 8:1-5: “Moreover, brethren, we make known to you the grace of God bestowed on the churches of Macedonia: that in a great trial of affliction the abundance of their joy and their deep poverty ABOUNDED IN THE RICHES OF THEIR LIBERALITY. For I bear witness that according to their ability, yes, and BEYOND THEIR ABILITY, THEY WERE FREELY WILLING, imploring us with much urgency that we would RECEIVE THE GIFT and the fellowship of the ministering to the saints. And not only as we had hoped, but THEY FIRST GAVE THEMSELVES TO THE LORD, and then to us by the will of God.” The apostle Paul was speaking to the saints at Corinth of a collection that was taken up to minister to the poor saints at Jerusalem and he uses the poor saints at Macedonia as a prime example of God’s grace moving them TO GIVE. The fact is they gave “above and beyond” what could be expected of them. They were more than willing to “dig deep into their pockets” to give the little money that they had so they could be a blessing to others. But the KEY to their giving is seen in those words, “they first gave themselves to the Lord.” They had already “given their hearts to the Lord,” and now anything else that they possessed they were willing to “surrender to the Lord” too.

What was it that led them to “give their hearts to the Lord?” Ah, it was the GRACE OF GOD that moved their hearts to surrender their hearts! When we see how much God has given us (GRACE speaks of God giving us what we don’t deserve) we will then respond by giving back to Him things He has blessed us with. A wonderful verse that teaches us this is Romans 12:1, “I beseech you therefore, brethren, BY THE MERCIES OF GOD, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service.” Here Paul is basically encouraging them to “surrender their whole life to God” BECAUSE of what God has done for us. The “mercies of God” will be the driving force that prompts our hearts to surrender our life to God! Some of the “mercies of God” are outlined in chapters 1-8 of this book. They include being JUSTIFIED BEFORE GOD (3:20-5:1), IDENTIFIED WITH CHRIST (5:12-6:11), being UNDER GRACE (6:14), NO CONDEMNATION in Christ (8:1), the HOLY SPIRIT INDWELLING US (8:2-27), Divine ELECTION and PREDESTINATION (8:28-30) and NO SEPARATION from God’s love (8:35-39). If we truly lay hold of these “mercies” we WILL respond by “surrendering our life to God.”

[08/15/19]   * Psalms 22, 23, and 24 form a wonderful trinity of truth!

* Psalm 22 speaks of the crucifixion of the Lord Jesus. It begins by saying, “My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me?” Most will recognize that these are the same words spoke from the cross by the Lord Jesus. We read in Matthew 27:46, “And about the ninth hour Jesus cried with a loud voice, saying, Eli, Eli, lama sabachthani? that is to say, My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me?”

* Psalm 23 speaks of present day blessings because of the finished work of the Lord Jesus. It is because of that pitiful cry of our Lord, “My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me?” that we can truly exclaim, “The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want.” With Christ as our shepherd, we see in this psalm how He provided for all our needs, He protects us, and He guides.

* Psalm 24 speaks of a future day when the Lord comes to rule in universal dominion during His millennial reign on the earth. This psalm begins by stating, “The earth is the LORD'S, and the fulness thereof; the world, and they that dwell therein.” The earth belongs to the Lord and we are His subjects. During His millennial reign on the earth, the Lord will rule in righteousness over His creation.

Now let’s read Psalm 24:7-10, “Lift up your heads, O ye gates; and be ye lift up, ye everlasting doors; and the King of glory shall come in. Who is this King of glory? The LORD strong and mighty, the LORD mighty in battle. Lift up your heads, O ye gates; even lift them up, ye everlasting doors; and the King of glory shall come in. Who is this King of glory? The LORD of hosts, he is the King of glory. Selah.”

These verses manifest to us this great man who fully answered to the description given to us in Psalm 24:3-5, “Who shall ascend into the hill of the LORD? or who shall stand in his holy place? He that hath clean hands, and a pure heart; who hath not lifted up his soul unto vanity, nor sworn deceitfully. He shall receive the blessing from the LORD, and righteousness from the God of his salvation.” Here we have the glorious manifestation of the King of King and His entrance into His dwelling place on earth…Zion. Our Lord Jesus Christ could ascend into the hill of the Lord because His hands were clean, and His heart was pure. The very One who wore a crown of thorns at His crucifixion trial will then be crowned with many crowns.

“Who is this King of glory?” It is the King of kings and Lord of lords. It is the One who said, “I am he that liveth, and was dead; and, behold, I am alive for evermore.” (Revelation 1:18). It is the Lamb of God. It is the very Son of God and God the Son. It is our Lord Jesus Christ! What a day, glorious day, that will be!
