Solemnity of Our Lady of Peñafrancia (19 September 2021)

17/09/2021

September 18 is the feastday of St. Joseph of Cupertino. He is most famous for levitating at prayer. Already as a child, Joseph showed a fondness for prayer. After a short stay with the Capuchins, he joined the Conventual Franciscans. Following a brief assignment caring for the friary mule, Joseph began his studies for the priesthood. Though studies were very difficult for him, Joseph gained a great deal of knowledge from prayer. He was ordained in 1628.
Joseph’s tendency to levitate during prayer was sometimes a cross; some people came to see this much as they might have gone to a circus sideshow. Joseph’s gift led him to be humble, patient, and obedient, even though at times he was greatly tempted and felt forsaken by God. He fasted and wore iron chains for much of his life.
The friars transferred Joseph several times for his own good and for the good of the rest of the community. He was reported to and investigated by the Inquisition; the examiners exonerated him.
Joseph was canonized in 1767. In the investigation preceding the canonization, 70 INCIDENTS OF LEVITATION ARE RECORDED.

A Blessed Feast Day of " Stigmata of Our Holy Father St. Francis of Assisi".

Almighty God,
You renewed the marks of the sufferings of Your Son in the body of Our Holy Father Francis in order to inflame Our hearts with the fire of Your love.
Through His prayers may We be made conformable to the death of Your Son and thus share also in His ressurection.
We ask this through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen🙏

St. Teresa of Calcuta
- pray for us.

Foundress of the Missionaries of Charity (1910-1997)

Her life

+ Agnes Bojaxhiu was born in Albania and became a religious sister with the Sisters of Loreto in Ireland, receiving the religious name Teresa.

+ In 1928, Mother Teresa, as she was known (the Sisters of Loreto used the title “Mother” rather than “Sister”), was sent to her congregation’s mission in India. Moved by the poverty and suffering of the people of Calcutta, Mother Teresa received permission to begin working with the poor outside her community.

+ In 1950, she organized the Missionaries of Charity. By 1957, the Missionaries had added ministry to Hansen’s Disease patients and disaster relief to their work.

+ The recipient of numerous awards, including the Nobel Peace Prize, Mother Teresa came to personify Christian charity throughout the world. Her simplicity and faith endeared her to Christians and non-Christians alike.

+ Prior to her death in 1997, Mother Teresa also founded a male branch of the Missionaries of Charity, a separate community of priest cooperators, and a lay affiliate program.

+ Beatified in 2003, she was canonized in 2016.

Prayer for Priests:

Lord Jesus Christ, eternal High Priest,
You offered yourself to the Father on the altar of the Cross
and through the outpouring of the Holy Spirit gave Your priestly people a share in Your redeeming sacrifice.

Hear our prayer for the sanctification of our priests.
Grant that all who are ordained to the ministerial priesthood
may be ever more conformed to You, the Divine Master.

May they preach the Gospel with pure heart and clear conscience.
Let them be shepherds according to Your own Heart,
single-minded in service to You and to the Church
and shining examples of a holy, simple and joyful life.

Through the prayers of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Your Mother and ours, draw all priests and the flocks entrusted to their care to the fullness of eternal life where you live and reign with the Father and the Holy Spirit, one God, forever and ever. Amen.

CHURCH FACTS | Longest Christmas season in the world

If you look up “longest Christmas season in the world”, the Philippines will come up as a result. For most, Christmas starts in December. But for Filipinos, Christmas starts the moment it’s September.

Meanwhile, the Catholic liturgy indicates that Christmas season starts from Christmas eve, Dec. 24, after sunset, until the feast of the Baptism of the Lord (usually the Sunday after Epiphany).

Rev. Fr. Ferdinand Santos, a Filipino priest, Philosophy & Theology seminary professor, and a licensed fitness instructor captured the hearts of the netizens.

In a Facebook post, Rev. Fr. Ranhilio Aquino of the San Beda University Graduate School of Law, said Fr. Ferdi Santos "gave up the prestigious position of Rector of St. John Vianney Seminary in Florida, U.S.A. that has both philosophy and faculty theologies to return to the Phiippines to work in depressed parishes."

May God bless Fr. Ferdi and all our priests abundantly!
Pray for more vocations!

Mk 7:1-8, 14-15, 21-23
When the Pharisees with some scribes who had come from Jerusalem
gathered around Jesus,
they observed that some of his disciples ate their meals
with unclean, that is, unwashed, hands.
—For the Pharisees and, in fact, all Jews,
do not eat without carefully washing their hands,
keeping the tradition of the elders.
And on coming from the marketplace
they do not eat without purifying themselves.
And there are many other things that they have traditionally observed,
the purification of cups and jugs and kettles and beds. —
So the Pharisees and scribes questioned him,
“Why do your disciples not follow the tradition of the elders
but instead eat a meal with unclean hands?”
He responded,
“Well did Isaiah prophesy about you hypocrites, as it is written:
This people honors me with their lips,
but their hearts are far from me;
in vain do they worship me,
teaching as doctrines human precepts.
You disregard God’s commandment but cling to human tradition.”

He summoned the crowd again and said to them,
“Hear me, all of you, and understand.
Nothing that enters one from outside can defile that person;
but the things that come out from within are what defile.

“From within people, from their hearts,
come evil thoughts, unchastity, theft, murder,
adultery, greed, malice, deceit,
licentiousness, envy, blasphemy, arrogance, folly.
All these evils come from within and they defile.”
