[09/09/17]   “Christians must lean on the Cross of Christ just as travelers lean on a staff when they begin a long journey. They must have the Passion of Christ deeply embedded in their minds and hearts, because only from it can they derive peace, grace, and truth.”

– St. Anthony of Padua

[08/31/17]   WORD Today

1Thes 3:7-13
Mt 24:42-51

Jesus says to us servants, "Stay awake! For you do not know on which day your Lord will come." If He finds anyone sleeping on the job, or being drunk and abusive of fellow servants, he will be punished.
There are two ways of keeping awake:
1. To be fearful that death is coming
2. To be excited that Jesus is coming
The first way is to keep sinless by observing the Law to the smallest detail. But this way is tiring and there's no joy here.
The First Reading has the better way, to allow "the Lord make you increase and abound in love for one another," to be too busy living the fullness of Christ's life to sin.
For a joyful Christian, Jesus is not coming to punish, but to bring exciting challenges to love and serve.

Ave Maria!

Soli Deo Gloria!

[08/28/17]   May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.

~ Romans 15:13

[08/28/17]   WORD Today

1Thes 1:1-5, 8-10
Mt 23:13-22
Today's Readings are reminders of the true intention of religion.
In the Gospel, Jesus reminds us who in some way teach the faith, not to focus too much on the rules and technicalities of the faith to the point of scaring away those we are supposed to bring to Christ. Rules are necessary but we need good judgment not to let strict implementation "lock the Kingdom of heaven" and "not allow entrance to those trying to get in."
In the First Reading, St. Paul, writing to his spiritual children in the church of Thessalonica, shows them gentleness, encouragement and love. He praises their "work of faith and labor of love, and endurance in hope of our Lord Jesus Christ."
Try to recall the last time you praised and encouraged those under you.
The Responsorial Psalm reminds us that "The Lord takes delight in His people."
Let us pray we are bringing Him His delight.

[08/24/17]   “You are rewarded not according to your work or your time but according to the measure of your love.” – St. Catherine of Siena

[08/23/17]   “He who trusts in himself is lost. He who trusts in God can do all things.”

“What does it cost us to say, ‘My God help me! Have mercy on me!’ Is there anything easier than this? And this little will suffice to save us if we be diligent in doing it.”

– St. Alphonsus Liguori

[08/17/17]   “Give something, however small, to the one in need. For it is not small to one who has nothing. Neither is it small to God, if we have given what we could.”

- St. Gregory Nazianzen

[08/16/17]   “What does love look like?
It has the hands to help others.
It has the feet to hasten to the poor and needy.
It has eyes to see the misery and want.
It has the ears to hear the sighs and sorrows of men.
That is what love looks like.”

– St. Augustine

[08/16/17]   “He who trusts in himself is lost. He who trusts in God can do all things.”

“What does it cost us to say, ‘My God help me! Have mercy on me!’ Is there anything easier than this? And this little will suffice to save us if we be diligent in doing it.”

– St. Alphonsus Liguori

[08/15/17]   “Teach us to give and not count the cost.”

-St. Ignatius de Loyola

On the 11th of October 1954, Pope Pius XII established the Feast of the Queenship of Mary to be celebrated throughout the world, and commanded that on that day each year, the world should renew its consecration to her. In the future the Feast came to be celebrated on the 22nd of August.”

All: “O Mary, it is the Will of God as revealed to the Church through the Holy Father that we should honor you not only as our most loving Mother but also our most merciful Queen, Queen of Heaven and Earth.”

[08/13/17]   Word today:
"Jesus Walks on the Water"
Matthew 14:22-23

1srt reading: 1king 19:9-11-13
At the mountain of God, Horeb, Elijah, came to a cave, where He took shelter. Then, the Lord said to him, " GO OUTSIDE and stand on the mountain b4 the Lord: the LORD WILL BE PASSING BY". A strong and Heavy wind was rending the mountains and crushing rocks before the LORD - but the was not in the wind, after the wind there was an earthquake --- but the LORD was not in the earthquake, ---- after the earthquake there was a Fire ---- but LORD was not in the fire. After a fire there was a TINY whispering Sound.....when he heard this, Elijah hid his face in his cloak and went and stood at the entrance of the cave.

Responsorial Psalm: " Lord, let us see your Kindness, and grant us your salvation".

Reflection: "HE PASSES BY"

Elijah, in the first reading, wants to flee from danger. He had the prophets of Jezebel killed, and now his life is in danger from retaliation(revenge). His refuge is the cave of MT. Horeb and because he is doing everything for GOD, he expects God to come for a rescue. He awaits God in spectacular event(wind, earthquake and fire) because he is a faithful servant of GOD. He had the prophets of baal killed for GOD! But GOD is not in the external signs of what may be seen as Power: great winds, earthquake and fire. However, God, comes in a "TINY WHISPERING SOUND".

Yes, there are moments in our lives when we force that suddenly makes us face the seemingly insurmountable problems or difficulties that beset our daily grind is a tiny whispering PRAYER in our HEART, a desire, a resolve bespeaking an intimate acknowledge presence of GOD. And our attitude must only be: " OPENNESs and AVAILABILITY".

The GOSPEL narrates that even Jesus, who led his disciples to feed the people, feels the need to PRAY. Preachers, Teachers, Recollection and retreat facilitators knows this ver much. Without PRAYER and introspection, ones ministry is in shambles. But while JESUS is away, the disciples who are in a boat are tossed by a storm. Yes, even the ones who claim to be near the LORD do experience storms and difficulties.

"The angel of the LORD encamps
around those who fear him, and he saves them."

[08/09/17]   The fruits of charity are joy, peace, and mercy; charity demands beneficence and fraternal correction; it is benevolence; it fosters reciprocity and remains disinterested and generous; it is friendship and communion: Love is itself the fulfillment of all our works. There is the goal; that is why we run: we run toward it, and once we reach it, in it we shall find rest.

–St. Augustine

[08/06/17]   "The Rosary is the best therapy for these destraught, unhappy, fearful and frustrated souls precisely because it involves simultaneous use of three powers, the physical, the vocal and the spiritual"

~ Archbishop Fulton Sheen.

[08/06/17]   “Private prayer is like straw scattered here and there: If you set it on fire it makes a lot of little flames. But gather these straws into a bundle and light them, and you get a mighty fire, rising like a column into the sky; public prayer is like that.”

-- Saint John Vianney

[08/06/17]   Virtues are formed by prayer. Prayer preserves temperance. Prayer suppresses anger. Prayer prevents emotions of pride and envy. Prayer draws into the soul the Holy Spirit, and raises man to Heaven.

-- Saint Ephraem of Syria
