Gospel “John 15:12-17

“I call you friends”

The Gospel shows how Christ humbled himself. We all know that Jesus Christ is the only begotten son of the Lord.In spite of all this, he still treated us as his beloved people. He never forces us to do whatever HE wants. HE lets us decide for ourselves. Whatever happens, HE is still there to guide us.

I am hoping that we also do the same thing as what HE did to us.

Lord, I thank you for making us your beloved people.

Gospel John 15:9-11

“If you will keep my commandments you will remain in my love”

The truth is, love is easier said than done. Just like our LOVE to the Lord, we often say that we believe and love HIM but do we follow HIS commandments?

Most of the time, we feel guilty if we make a mistake. But if we learn and make things right this is a good way to show and prove our love to HIM.

Gospel 14:27-31

"Do not let your hearts be troubled or afraid"

We all know that we are affected by this pandemic. We even ask God how will it all end. Many of us are worried and scared for our future. Especially the poor, they don’t even know where to get the food that they will eat for their supper.

It is not easy for us to relinquish our fears, but if we are going to be brave and believe in God, we can assure ourselves that we can surpass our hardships.

Gospel: Jn 10:22-30
"No one can take them out of My hand"
The sheep of the Lord are the ones who listens to His voice and follow Him. Jesus knows His sheep. Can you imagine Jesus tells you that He knows you? It is very meaningful and it is our honor to be recognized by Jesus as His sheep. To be recognized by Jesus as a faithful christian, a faithful follower, a person whom God puts so much faith. Despite the struggle in following Jesus, He recognizes us and knows that we will persevere in following. Jesus will not let anyone or anything to take His sheep away from His hand. We are invited to persevere on becoming God's sheep. To remain faithful in following of Him because only He can fulfill our lives.
Mama Mary, guide us in our following of Jesus so that we remain faithful to Him.

Gospel: John 10:11-18

I am the Good Shepherd

We believe that Jesus is the Good Shepherd when life is "bright and rosy", but when trials and sufferings, like this pandemic, come upon us, we feel that Jesus did not protect us. We feel abandoned and left on our own.

Today's Gospel reminds us that Jesus has power over all that cause our fear and anxiety. He assures us, "Do not be afraid, be still and know that I am God." When we believe in this truth, we will live in peace and confidence, knowing that we are under the care of the Good Shepherd, who gave His life for our sake.

Mama Mary, calm our restless hearts and allow it to receive the peace of Jesus. Amen.

Jesus truly gives us His very Flesh and Blood in the Holy Eucharist. Since we cannot receive Jesus sacramentally, because of the strict quarantine, we continue to receive Him spiritually into our hearts by prayer. Jesus cannot be quarantined. He continues to nourish us with our daily bread - His word.
The word of God nourishes, heals, guides, strengthens, and gives hope and comfort to our anxious minds and hearts, during this time of pandemic. Jesus stays in us, making us become another Christ to others, if we give Him a pleasing dwelling space in our hearts.

Gospel: Luke 14:1-4

so He took the man, healed him and dismissed Him

When we seek the presence of Jesus, and open ourselves to Him, with no pretenses, He accepts us fully, just like the man with dropsy. He need not apologize for his ailment, he stands before Jesus quietly, and awaits Jesus’ action. Much like the sick man, Jesus takes pity on us, He sees what’s in our hearts, the turmoil, the hurts, our intentions,

We don’t need to be ashamed, or envious of others, no need to cover up and present a false image. Jesus knows, He understands, and will answer our prayers, in His time. Let not our faith waver, let’s not stagger and still be proud. Before the Lord, there’s no ego to contend with,

Let’s live our lives as a testimony to Christ and make Him happy. Let others see our faith in our everyday lives, that way too we are able to convert the doubtful souls out there.

Gospel: Luke 9:18–22

Who do you say that I am? (cf. Luke 9:20)

In today's Gospel, Jesus was praying and his disciples were there with Him. After a time, Jesus turned to his disciples and asked, “Who do the people say that I am?” They said in reply, “Some say you are John the Baptist. Others believe you are Elijah or one of the prophets who has arisen.” He then asked, “But who do you say that I am?”

Today Jesus is asking each of us the same question, “Who do you say that I am?” In the same manner like the disciples, we are also invited to take the same moment of asking ourselves who is Jesus to us.

Perhaps we can answer these questions based on our personal experience with Jesus as He also desires for us to have a personal relationship with Him wanting to be the center of our lives.

Let us come to Mother Mary to help us open ourselves and allow Jesus to be the center of our lives so we can have that personal relationship with Him. Amen

Gospel: Luke 8:19–21

My mother and my brothers are those who hear the word of God and do it (cf. Luke 8:21)

It is easier to hear the word of God than to act on it. And to act the words of Jesus, we are called to love every person we encounter, including those whom we may not like.

Jesus calls us to stretch ourselves and act the same way that He did in the Gospel. He calls us to live His words each and every day.

Let us ask Mother Mary to guide us in being always mindful of the way we see every person we encounter, that we may consider them each day as our brothers and sisters in faith. Amen.

For I have come to call not the righteous but sinners. (cf. Matthew 9:13)

Today's Gospel narrates to us the call of Matthew. As Jesus saw Matthew while walking by his custom post, Jesus called him to follow and immediately he got up and followed Jesus.

God's mercy for us is beyond compare that He overlooks our faults and failures. Despite our betrayals, hurtful attacks and unworthiness, He still chooses us. It is Him who made us worthy in our following.

Let us ask Mother Mary to help us to see the urgency of the call of Jesus and guide us in responding with a joyful heart. Amen.

The one that fell on good ground

Many of us believe in the existence of God and His word. But though we heard or know the commandments of God sometimes we disregard these because we lack the patience. Some of us want to get our dreams and goals in our life the easiest way. Because of this sometimes we cheat, we steal and we lie.

But what we take for granted is the people who follow and keep the word of God are those very blessed as they are on the good ground. They are with the Lord. And being with Him can make one richer than the richest man in this world.

Lord God, put us in the good ground so that we may keep Your Word. Keep us away from the thorns where there are lots of temptation. Amen.

Your sins are forgiven

When you sin, do you look for or call God for forgiveness?

Be like the woman in this Gospel – she looked for Jesus. When she found Him, she used her tears to wash then kiss His feet. She humbled herself even though she was judged by the people around her. She continued what she was doing. And Jesus forgave her because of her faith.

We have a forgiving God, let’s not be afraid to ask for His forgiveness. Let’s offer to Him the burden in our hearts caused by our sins.

Oh Lord forgive us for what we have done.

Gospel: Luke 2:33-35

Behold

Today we are celebrating the memorial of Our Lady of Sorrows. In the Gospel, this is the time when Jesus Christ was crucified. As a mother, it was not easy for Mary to see her Son crucified. But before Jesus died He never forgot his family and disciples. He said to His mother, “Woman, behold, your son.” then to his disciples "Behold, your mother". And from that hour the disciple took her into his home.

In this time many of us are sad because of the effect of the pandemic to each one of us. But just like in the Gospel, Jesus invites us to turn to each other. This is the time to stop our selfishness and to be humble in front of one another. Behold as we help each other be united in Jesus. If we do that, our sorrows today can become happiness tomorrow.

Oh Lord God we are here to ask for your protection and healing of this world against the virus.

And it could not shake it; for it was founded on a rock

I liken the COVID '19 pandemic to a very strong storm, causing catastrophic damage and suffering. Likewise, it placed our faith in God in a great test, showing the importance of a rock solid faith in times like these.

How do we build up our faith and found it on solid rock, so we can withstand stronger storms of life that may still come our way? By prayers, immersing daily in the Word of God, receiving the sacraments, i.e. Sacrament of the Eucharist, the Sacrament of Reconciliation, adoration of the Eucharist, devotion to Mary and praying the Rosary, practice of virtues, veneration to our angels and saints, the use of sacramentals, and other spiritual exercises. Done with true devotion, it strengthens our faith and produces in our souls marvelous and abundant spiritual and material graces from our loving God.

Mama Mary, inspire us to make our every action a prayer like you do, constantly seeking to be pleasing in the eyes of our heavenly Father. Amen.

Take the log out of your eye, before you remove the speck in your brother's eye.

In our Gospel today, Jesus reminds us to take the log out of our eye, before we take the speck in our brother's eye, because often times, our sins blind us from seeing our own weakness and wrongdoings. Jesus gazes upon us with mercy and compassion, despite our sinfulness. He does not condemn us. Likewise, He wants us to correct, but not to condemn and judge our erring brothers and sisters, because nobody is perfect. We are all sinners, in need of God's mercy and forgiveness.

Lord Jesus, please show to us the areas in our life that are displeasing to you, and grant us the grace of humility to accept and correct our wrongdoings. Amen.

Love your enemy

Many of us may find this teaching of Jesus most difficult to follow: "love your enemy, return good for evil, pray for those who mistreat you." More than ever, the recent events in our country and the world make it clear why Jesus wants us to respond this way. We can see how anger, hatred and vengeance abound in the midst of a terrible pandemic, which makes the situation even more difficult. Jesus wants us to stop hurting each other and end the cycle of anger, hatred and vengeance, because this is the only way to peace, healing and reconciliation. Jesus did it first on the Cross and He is inviting us to do the same.

Lord Jesus, forgiving those who have greatly hurt us is most difficult to follow. We cannot do it on our own efforts alone, and so we ask for the grace of humility and forgiveness to respond as you would, believing that you will grant us your blessing in return, as you have promised. Amen.

Which is lawful on the Sabbath?

In today's Gospel, Jesus heals a man suffering from a paralyzed hand on the Sabbath day, which was against the law. Jesus acted on the basis of the commandment of love and compassion, which is the essence of law.

Jesus' response is an invitation for us, to reflect on our own attitude and behavior, towards those who commit violations among our family members - at home, in our workplace, organization, community. Do we give utmost importance to the rigidity of rules and laws, or we give more value to the welfare and dignity of the person?

Lord Jesus, you are the model of our faith. Please help us, especially those in positions of power and authority, to act with love and compassion in the observance of rules and laws, more so, during this time of pandemic. Amen.
