[09/13/20]   Can a mature Christian vote for any of the incumbent members in the house this election?
I suggest to you that the answer is a simple ‘no’.
Now it is possible for a Christian to vote for any one of the incumbent members and they would still be counted as followers of Christ by virtue of their faith in Jesus’ saving work on the cross and the grace filled gift to all who believe. However, the nub of the question hinges on the word ‘mature’.
My point is that no Christian can vote with the incumbent given the policies and direction of the house on matters that are so important to the economy of God and still count themselves as mature. The commands handed down by God are clear, so the mature Christian is now set at odds with abortion, euthanasia and a host other initiatives that have grabbed the house of late.
The drift of government concerning marriage, loving discipline, the place of family, as a foundation of society, prostitution, legalization of drugs, gender issues and the like, is straight forward and at odds with the Christian faith.
So can a mature Christian cast their lot with the forces of evil and I argue the answer is no.
Now I hear you say well if I can’t vote for one of the main parties in the house then my vote is wasted. I suggest to you that it is not wasted and that if a sufficient number did vote for another party currently outside of the house, God will use your vote. Moreover, having voted according to your faith in God and his commands, you have maintained your integrity and you may sleep well at night.
The other point you might argue is ‘I will have to support and vote for a party that I don’t agree with to remove another party that I find even more objectionable’. Since we all will stand before God one day, how will you argue that you had to cast your lot with evil as a matter of expediency. So dear friend, how do you rate your need for expediency against God’s command? Where dear friend is your love for the Lord that you would cast your lot with the evil one?
Now you might also say ‘well there is simply no one I can vote for’. Our system of democracy allows for those in favour, those opposed and those who abstain. Abstaining, contrary to some popular belief, does not mean you give up your right of opinion or your right to voice that opinion.
That said I do believe there are some admirable alternatives to voting for any one of the incumbent parties in the house just now. Please value your vote and vote according to the will of the one who paid the ultimate price for your freedom.
