TWINKAS IS STILL THE BEST..

Based in Fiji, the church has spread its wings globally. 1972 a group called the 'Apostles' assisted pastors in the rual and remote areas of Fiji.

Support was in the form of moral, spiritual and financial. As a result work grew and there was noteable increase in church planting within the Assemblies of God. In 1988 a small family church started in Lautoka calling themselves the Apostles Gospel Outreach Fellowship International (AGOFI).
2007 saw the birth of Apostles Fellowship, Light House Ministry - Auckland NZ.

[05/20/21]   Praise for Forgiveness

Be glad in the Lord and rejoice, you righteous; and shout for joy, all you upright in heart!
Psalm 32:11

Have you experienced this sheer relief? You are stopped by a police officer for a traffic violation; you are given a verbal warning instead of a ticket; you are sent on your way like it never happened. Relief? No, joy and thanksgiving! We thank the officer, then we praise God as we drive away. And after our praise we purpose to be more careful.

Recommended Reading:
Psalm 64: 10
If we are grateful for that pardon, how grateful should we be when Almighty God forgives our sins and sends us on our way? After a brutally honest retelling of his pre-confession suffering from sin, David praised the Lord for being forgiven (Psalm 32:11). Why should forgiveness result in praise? Because God removes our sin far from us (Psalm 103:12). He buries our sin out of our sight (Micah 7:19). He puts our sins behind His back (Isaiah 38:17). He blots out our sin (Isaiah 44:22). He treats our sins as if they never happened (Jeremiah 31:34). That’s why forgiveness should bring forth praise.

The next time you receive God’s forgiveness, give Him the praise He deserves from those delivered from unrighteousness and restored to fellowship.

What we win by prayer, we must wear with praise.
Matthew Henry

[04/19/21]   Be an Influencer

Therefore comfort one another with these words.
1 Thessalonians 4:18

The new era of social networking has given an old word a new meaning: influencer. Traditionally, an influencer was someone who influenced others. That’s the new use of the word as well, but in a new context: social media platforms. Influencers are mostly young people who can sway lifestyle trends by their endorsements, videos, product placements, brands, and appearances. Influencing is a neutral idea—it all depends on the goal of the influence.

Recommended Reading:
Hebrews 10: 24 – 25
The apostle Paul seems to have thought of Christians as influencers. In his description of the Church as the Body of Christ, he viewed all Christians as being connected, as having influence on others. Indeed, 33 times in his epistles (63 times in all the epistles), the phrase “one another” occurs. The New Testament expects believers to (1) be in proximity with one another and (2) to stimulate and influence one another to become spiritually mature. Hebrews 10:24-25 exhorts Christians to meet together to “stir up love and good works.”

Are you living in close proximity to other Christians? It’s the only way we can influence one another to strive for spiritual maturity and Christlikeness.

The serene beauty of a holy life is the most powerful influence in the world next to the power of God.

[04/12/21]   Build With the Word

So now, brethren, I commend you to God and to the word of His grace, which is able to build you up and give you an inheritance among all those who are sanctified.
Acts 20:32

At the reading of a Will, an attorney reads the last Will and Testament of the deceased to family members and beneficiaries. In addition to specifying inheritances, the deceased might also write final thoughts: desires, priorities, and hopes. A person’s last words are often a summary of what they considered most important.

Recommended Reading:
2 Timothy 4: 1 – 2
When the apostle Paul wrote his final letter to young Timothy, his priority was clear: “I charge you…. Preach the word! Be ready in season and out of season. Convince, rebuke, exhort, with all longsuffering and teaching” (2 Timothy 4:1-2). As a young leader, Paul reminded Timothy how best to build up the Church—by preaching and teaching the Word of God. Paul’s reasoning? There would be many who would use false teaching to tear down the Church (verses 3-4).Only the truth of the Word can build up and make the Body of Christ strong.

Building the Church relies on building church members. Build yourself up daily by studying the Word of God.

The best way to revive a church is to build a fire in the pulpit.

[04/02/21]   Failed, but Not Finished

And the Lord turned and looked at Peter. Then Peter remembered the word of the Lord, how He had said to him, “Before the rooster crows, you will deny Me three times.” So Peter went out and wept bitterly.
Luke 22:61-62

It doesn’t happen often, thankfully, but it does happen: An employee makes a serious mistake that costs the company a large amount of money—and the employee is let go from his job. Whatever the reason for the mistake—negligence, poor judgment, or an honest error—the employer can’t risk it happening again.

Recommended Reading:
John 21: 1 – 23
Aren’t you thankful God has a different perspective on our failures? Granted, most of our failures may be small. But the principle of holiness is that to fail in one thing is like to fail in everything (James 2:10). If God judged us on our works, none of us could be saved. Before he came to understand grace, the apostle Peter probably thought he was finished when he denied knowing Christ three times. Yet Jesus, after the resurrection, reached out to Peter and embraced him, recommissioning Peter in His service (John 21).

Never forget: We are saved by grace through faith, not by works. Our salvation, and our ministry, is the gift of God (Ephesians 2:8-10).

Remember that failure is an event, not a person.

[03/30/21]   By the Blood

Not with the blood of goats and calves, but with His own blood He entered the [heavenly] Most Holy Place once for all, having obtained eternal redemption.
Hebrews 9:12

Christianity has been called a ghastly religion because of its emphasis on the shedding of blood. Indeed, the writer to the Hebrews says, “Without shedding of blood there is no remission [of sins]” (Hebrews 9:22).

Recommended Reading:
Ephesians 2: 12 – 13
Here’s where our theology takes a serious turn. The image of blood is no more ghastly than what it corresponds to: the ghastliness of sin. We forget, at times, just how serious sin is in the face of a perfectly holy God. It was God’s plan to enjoy fellowship with His creation for eternity, and He ultimately will. But when man sinned—a ghastly offense in the sight of our holy God—it required a correspondingly serious solution. A perfectly sinless Man had to die—that’s what “shedding of blood” means—for a perfectly sinful mankind. So Jesus shed His blood instead of God shedding ours. And in doing so, He “obtained eternal redemption” (Hebrews 9:12).

Contemplate today what God did to ensure eternal fellowship with us. He allowed His own Son to die that we might live.

Bearing shame and scoffing rude, in my place condemned He stood; sealed my pardon with His blood. Hallelujah! What a Savior!
Philip P. Bliss, “Hallelujah, What a Savior!”

[03/29/21]   When God Was Determined

Him, being delivered by the determined purpose and foreknowledge of God, you have taken by lawless hands, have crucified, and put to death; whom God raised up.
Acts 2:23-24

There’s no word higher, greater, or possessing more authority than that of sovereign. Notice the last five letters: REIGN. The prefix, sov, means “super” or “above all.” In his Pentecostal sermon in Acts 2, Peter stressed the sovereignty of God in matters related to the crucifixion of Christ. The Jewish leaders weren’t in control of the events. Pontius Pilate wasn’t the determining power. The Roman soldiers weren’t in charge. None of the civil or religious powers wrecked the plan of Almighty God. Jesus was delivered to death “by the determined purpose and foreknowledge of God.”

Recommended Reading:
Acts 2: 22 – 29
Notice the power of the word determined. The death of Christ was a determination made in heaven in order to provide the world with forgiveness of sin and eternal life. From eternity past, our Heavenly Father determined to love you, to save you, and to give you an eternal inheritance at the cost of the blood of His Son, whom He then raised from the dead.

Nothing is outside of God’s determined sovereign rule, and that should make us feel very secure!

Behind Calvary’s cross is the throne of heaven.

[03/27/21]   Learn to Fear

Come, you children, listen to me; I will teach you the fear of the Lord.
Psalm 34:11

Think about how much time we invest in learning in our modern society. We begin with one year of kindergarten, then twelve years of graded school, then four years of college, then up to five years of graduate school. Then, for some professions, like the medical field, there are three to seven more years of specialty training. Some people spend twenty years or more learning because education is valuable and usually contributes to greater success in life.

Recommended Reading:
Deuteronomy 31: 12 – 13
But how often do we think about learning to fear the Lord? That is, do we consider growing deeper and deeper in our relationship with Him as a “curriculum” of sorts? A curriculum that lasts a lifetime? This was a common theme in the nation of Israel. Citizens of Israel were expected to be taught how to fear the Lord—how to honor Him, trust Him, love Him, worship Him, and more. And the main vehicle for that learning was the Word of God—the words of His law (Deuteronomy 31:12-13).

When you read and study your Bible, think of it as learning to fear the Lord—a curriculum that lasts a lifetime.

Let us learn to trust [God] for who He is.

[03/27/21]   The Only Right Fear

Let all the earth fear the Lord; let all the inhabitants of the world stand in awe of Him.
Psalm 33:8

One of Jesus’ most cryptic teachings is found in His words to the scribes and Pharisees: “Woe to you lawyers! For you have taken away the key of knowledge” (Luke 11:52). Jesus didn’t say specifically what the “key of knowledge” was. But wouldn’t it be good to know?

Recommended Reading:
Isaiah 33: 6
The clue to the key may be found in Isaiah 33:6—a verse Jesus may have had in mind: “Wisdom and knowledge will be the stability of your times, and the strength of salvation; the fear of the Lord is His treasure.” Interestingly, one modern translation says, “The fear of the Lord is the key to this treasure [of wisdom and knowledge]” (NIV). Could the fear of the Lord be the key to gaining wisdom and knowledge about God and living rightly with Him? Scripture seems to think so, as described in Psalm 111:10; Proverbs 1:7; 2:5, 9:10,14:26-27, 19:23. In fact, we are to be “zealous for the fear of the Lord all the day” (Proverbs 23:17).

Honor, reverence, awe, submission, obedience—all these characterize the fear of the Lord. Fearing the Lord is the only right fear.

The fear of the Lord is not just the end of wisdom but its beginning.

Don’t Fear Death!

Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in Me, though he may die, he shall live.”
John 11:25

In 2017, Inc. magazine published research on what Americans fear the most. Number one on the list was corrupt government officials; number 48 was death.[1] The problem with annual surveys is that they tend to reflect what people fear most at the moment rather than what they fear in the grand scheme of things. Also, people tend to fear what they have the most knowledge about or experience with. Because death is not considered a “clear and present danger” to most people, it’s “out of sight, out of mind.”

Recommended Reading:
Hebrews 2: 14 – 15
But death is coming for us all (except those Christians who are alive at the Rapture of the Church). And there is no reason to fear it. Jesus said that those who believe in Him “shall never die” (John 11:26). How can that be? It’s true because those who believe in Him have eternal life today. Eternal life doesn’t begin when we die physically; it begins when we believe spiritually in Christ (John 17:3).

It has been well said, “Until we’re ready to die, we’re not ready to live.” Make sure you are living eternally today through faith in Christ.

Those who have welcomed Christ may welcome death.
