When Shakya Muni Buddha was asked by a monk disciple that are you God? Buddha said no. Then that monk disciple asked Buddha that are you a messenger of God? Then Buddha said no. The third time the disciple asked, "What are you then?" Buddha said that I am just an awakened person. Then another disciple asked Buddha that do you believe in God? Buddha remained silent on this question. Again the disciple asked do you not believe in God? Buddha again kept silence. Thus Buddhism neither believes in God nor rejects it. This is an Agnostic philosophy. Buddhism seeks to cleanse the impurity from the mind of people by meditation or Vipassana for the spiritual development of man and to bring the human out of the darkness of ignorance, instead of full emphasis on the imaginary God like other religions and to put them in delusion or hypocrisy. Mahatma Buddha was a great psychologist. He knew that all evil actions are born from the mind, if the mind is pure, cold, restrained and without any kind of impurity then everything will be right. He said that ignorance and craving is the root cause of human suffering which arises from the mind. Only when knowledge, peace and purity come in the mind, people will be able to realize God ( Brahma vihara), otherwise they will fall into confusion and hypocrisy.
Nowadays the whole of humanity is suffering from anger or disturbance of mind and has become the victim of conflict, hatred and many types of mental illnesses. Even these days family life is full of mutual discord. Now people do not have patience due to which they are ready to fight even on small matters. Everyone suffers from arrogance. But why is this happening? This is happening due to lack of wisdom. Educational qualification does not bring wisdom, but wisdom comes through pious approach to life, that is, through meditation and controlling the mind by self-restraint.
The whole humanity has to think with cold mind that where are we going? Are we going towards a better society or the world or are we going towards disaster. Anger, greed and hatred are increasing and peace, love, brotherhood and compassion have gone into the background.
The teachings of the Buddha and his life story are worthy of emulating for every human. Gautama Buddha was born as a prince, but renounced all forms of luxury and became a yogi. He understood that material happiness cannot give lasting peace and bliss but greed increases more the disturbance of the mind.
Once upon a time Buddha was meditating under the shadow of a banyan tree. Some Brahmins came and hurled abuses on him. The Brahmins were angry with Buddha because he appealed to the people to abstain from all kinds of religious rituals. He had said that human beings can attain salvation only through enlightenment and not by performing rituals. The rituals are just an illusion. The Brahmins were angry with the Buddha because their main source of income was to perform rituals for others. Buddha was very calm and happy even after the misbehaviour of the Brahmins. Then the Brahmins said to the Buddha that we are abusing you but you are very quiet. Buddha replied that I feel pity on you because you are angry with me because of your ignorance.
When Jesus Christ was crucified, Jesus had compassion for perpetrators. Jesus said, O God, forgive these people because they don't know what they are doing.

How to overcome negative thoughts?

"In fact, in our daily lives, most of the time, we have some negative thinkings like; He hasn’t called, it means he doesn’t love me. She is late. She must be seeing someone else. If I was a good parent, I wouldn’t get angry at the kids. I can’t do this, so I must be stupid. My medical tests are not ready. It means I an really very sick.

These negative thinkings are very much familiar with us and We make up stories all the time and then, start to believe them. It is true that life is not always a bowl of cherries, but it doesn’t mean every situation is going to be bad. We have to deal with our experiences as they arise, and not invent a negative scenario, that may or may not happen. For example, we are driving to a business meeting and we take a wrong turn. The negative mind tells itself that we are always doing this, even though we aren’t, and that we will now lose our job, which of course we won’t. However, once we start thinking like this, we get agitated and stressed. This leads to more negativity and so the downward spiral begins and even we keep our negative thinking for bedtime,
However, if we have such kind of negative thoughts and thinking, first of all, it is useful to write a list of positive things in our life. This will help disarm our negative thinking. We can then refer to this list when we are feeling negative. We may think that no one loves us, but when we look at our list, we can see that our parents, family and friends all care for us. We may think that we are useless, but the list tells a different story. We may have a good education and we may have a good job which is more than enough to have a happy life. Only we need to be Satisfied with what we have and reduce unnecessary spendings. By referring to this positive list regularly, we will be able to create a natural defense against negativity. We will see that for every negative thought that we may have, we will be able to counter them with more positive things in our life and we can understand that there are more good things in our life rather than bad things. We have to be diligent if we wish to stop being carried away by negativity. We are responsible for what we think and so we are the ones that have to eliminate negative thoughts. With this practice, we will be able to see when we are thinking negative, and we can then implement the appropriate action. However, this all takes effort on our part, but reducing negativity and promoting positivity is totally doable. The way is to learn this and understand and then, put them into practice in order to gain the best result here and now.

May the Noble Triple Gems Buddha, Dhamma and Saṅgha bless you, your beloved all other family members, dhamma friends and every being to have good health, peace, ease, comfort, success and happiness by being free from all sicknesses, problems, worries, difficulties and sufferings....! I'm sharing lot of merits and mettā to all of you. May every heart be filled with joy, compassion, happiness and success. May the happiness be set up at every corners of the world.....!

"Everything is impermanent in this world. Things that we expect will not be happened, but things that we don't expect will be happened. This is the Nature of the world. The Buddha preached that the meaning of the word 'world' is as dissolving or crumbling. We all know that Life is ups and downs. We have to accept whatever arise in our life and we should react positively. We should always try to understand that everything is impermanent. if good time is going on, we should not forget that bad time also may come again. If bad time is going on, we should be strong and keep the faith and confidence that good time will definitely come again. As Humans, we should be able to see good in every situation, everything and everyone and we need to understand that regretting and focusing on the problems, challenges and bad situations nothing give us, but only fear, worries and sufferings and we become weaker. However, if we can keep the self confidence, strong mind and pure thoughts and positive mental attitudes, definitely we will be able to deal with the difficult situation and to overcome all stress, worries, difficulties, negativities, regrets, pains and sufferings. Our life is too short to be sad and regret. That is why we should try to think, act and speak good all the time. The most important thing for the well-being of our life is patience. Be positive and patience. then, Everything will be fine and we can have the strength, power and energy to get over this disaster soonest. Let's Cultivate more and more Dharmic thoughts, Humane qualities and pure intention in order to Calm down the Nature and to show our goodness to the universe...."

Today is full moon day and it is very auspicious day because in many Theravada BUDDHIST countries including Sri Lanka, monks observe rainy retreat today and they hold it for three months and Devotees can cultivate Noble path with monks in order to speed up Noble cultivation to end this sorrowful samsaric journey.

"To become a beautiful human being, we have to defeat a tough enemy called greed. Here, greed means endless desire to get more and more things in life. Greed is what dictates our actions and thoughts, if we aren’t cautious enough.
Greed is thinking about only ourselves most of the time, without caring about what the other person feels. Greed destroys friendships, relationships, and it is the root cause of bigger mankind troubles like sicknesses, diseases, war and corruption.
If we don’t control and don't become aware of it, our greed will only increase with each passing day and even if we fulfill our every desire, we will not be able to live a happy life, because it’s the nature of greed to desire for another wish when one wish is fulfilled.
Greed doesn’t have any limit. If we think having a big house or a room full of money will satisfy our greed, we are wrong. Even if we get that, we will want an even bigger house and more money.
Greed is dangerous not just for us, but for our whole human race, and every life on this planet. The plants, animals, and natural resources that we have here are limited. If we don’t control our greed, we’ll end up destroying this beautiful planet.

So to overcome greed, we must stop ourself from acting the moment a selfish thought comes to our mind. So as soon as the thought to grab a desirable object comes to our mind, we should stop right there and should not take any action. Just observe our mind at that moment.
Then, we need Just to see what our mind is forcing us to do and once we become aware that we are being greedy, let that thing go.
Again when greed arises, we should do this same thing. Stop the moment that we realize we are being greedy, understand the greed inside us, let it go, and then choose the option that’s best for everyone. When we have this wise practice within us, we can overcome our greed and it will help us to overcome many diseases, problems, worries, challenges and natural disasters in the world. To experience the best results, instead of stop at gaining the knowledge, just we need to put into practice. Then, we can see a beautiful human being within us...."
