8am Holy Eucharist

A warm welcome to our 8am celebration of the Holy Eucharist. Today is Remembrance Sunday, where we remember with great thanksgiving those who gave their lives in the service of justice and freedom. We also remember those who lost their lives in the cruelty of war. Today we pray especially for peace throughout the world, and that those in authority over us will work for justice and the common good.

14/11/2021

Today is Remembrance Sunday, a day where we join with the nation in remembering the service and sacrifice of all those that have defended our freedoms, and all who have lived and died in the service of humanity.

This year Remembrance Sunday is especially poignant for us here in Coventry as it falls on the 14th of November, a date which 81 years ago changed not only the fate of the Cathedral but the face of our city forever.

We remember all of those who fought so valiantly to save our Cathedral and the wider city. We remember all of those who lost their lives and all of those who were injured. We remember all of those left homeless and those who lost everything.

We remember too the kindness and compassion shown by people not only across Coventry but the nation as a whole. We remember the determination of the city to rebuild and rise like a phoenix from the ashes. We remember in all we do the words of Provost Howard and strive for a kinder, simpler, more Christ-child-like sort of world.

We remember.

8am Holy Communion

A warm welcome to Online Church today. We are delighted you are joining us here online.

In our Gospel reading today, Jesus calls some of the first disciples to follow him. Sometimes there can be all sorts of things which hold us back from following Jesus, but God still calls us to follow him, because his plan for each of us will be filled with a hope and joy far beyond anything we can imagine.
Today we are called to believe this good news too.

8am Holy Communion

A Warm Welcome to our Service today!

This week we are celebrating All Saints’ Day. Sometimes, it can be very easy to think that as Christians, we are on our own. The fact of the matter is that every Christian is a part of a family. This family is spread throughout the world, in every age and at all times. The Christian Church is a family, and we become members of that family through Holy Baptism.

The Feast of All Saints reminds us that we are a part of something much bigger than ourselves. We also celebrate the lives of those who have gone before us in the faith, and that in the same way God called them to do wonderful things, God calls us too to follow their example.

8am Holy Communion | Bible Sunday

A warm welcome to The Online Holy Eucharist!

Today is both The Last Sunday after Trinity and Bible Sunday. The Bible can almost be something we take for granted, after all we’ve always had is since we’ve been alive. It’s a massive book, written over many centuries and by many different authors, yet it tells one consistent story of God’s love for the world. In it we find that, out of love, God has made everything around us. God and humanity have a special relationship in that, God has given us a responsibility of caring for his creation. Humanity continues to fall short of this responsibility, and yet God is constantly rescuing us from the terrible things that we do to one another. The Bible tells this story of God’s faithfulness over and over again, which culminates in God becoming one of us; a human being. The Bible is a testament to God’s love and faithfulness to us no matter what we do.

Sincere apologies everyone for yet further delays in uploading. We are having a lot of trouble with the internet at the moment.

Today, we are keeping “Sight loss Sunday”. This is part of our mission in bringing the love of God to everyone. Our readings challenge us in our relationships with one another. We are challenged to encourage each other in our gifts and talents to help people meet with Jesus, especially people who have been marginalised by society. Jesus does not place barriers in our way – he removes them.

At St Mary Magdalen Church, we want to remove all barriers for people in coming to know Jesus. We believe in creating the opportunity for everyone to be welcomed into the love of God.
