Now the Parish Profile is finished, the post of our new vicar can be advertised, and hopefully people will start applying for it. So we need to be praying for the person who needs to respond to God's call and those who will be responsible for choosing him or her. Please use the following prayer, every day if possible, for the Holy Spirit to guide everyone concerned.

A Prayer in interregnum

God our Father,
you have welcomed each one of us in Jesus
and called us to be his body in this place.
Send us your Holy Spirit,
at this time of uncertainty and change,
to fill us with vision and energy;
make us faithful in prayer and worship,
that we may be true to our calling
to bring new life to our community.
Guide with your heavenly wisdom
the person you are calling to be our new priest
and those who are to choose the new Vicar for this parish,
that the one whom we receive
may be a wise and gentle shepherd of your people:
ready to serve us with joy, to build us up in faith,
and to lead us by example in loving obedience to your son,
our Saviour, Jesus Christ.
Amen.
The diocese has provided a service for families for this Sunday, Mothering Sunday. You can find it on YouTube:
This Friday is the World Day of Prayer (it used to be the Women's World Day of Prayer). If you want to join in, there are services in various churches in Coventry, or you can follow a video made by West Orchards URC. It won't be available on their YouTube channel until Friday morning, but this is the link:

Our Lent course starts this Wednesday at 7.30pm, when we join with others in the diocese for a zoom Journey into Lent. The course looks at different aspects of prayer.
You can find the Lent course here:

https://coventry.anglican.org/leaning-into-lent-2021/be-nourished/journey-into-lent.php

YOU NEED TO REGISTER. If you miss a session or want to watch at a different time, you can do this once you are registered.
Remember that after today we shall not be providing the three daily services. If you would like to continue praying through the day, you might like to join with the cathedral - their livestreamed services go out at 8.30, 12 noon and 4.00, but once they are on the cathedral video page they can be accessed at any time to suit you.

Version 1 of the Chapel of Unity Lent poster had an incorrect passcode for the Zoom link - the correct code is 997571.
Following the success of the short daily meditations in the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity, the Chapel of Unity zooms at 7.00pm every Monday in Lent to think about an appropriate poem; each session lasts about 20 minutes - details on the poster.. Everyone is welcome.

If you want to do something for Lent but joining the Wednesday evening Zoom isn't possible for you, or you would rather read something every day, then the Church of England's Live Lent daily meditations and prayers may be right for you. You can have a daily email, download it to your phone, or we could order the booklet from Church House Publishing - if you want the booklet, please let Sue know AS SOON AS POSSIBLE. The link is here:

For our Lent course this year we shall be joining with people from around the diocese to look at some ways that we can refresh our conversation with God in prayer. The course that the diocese is providing is called 'Journey into Prayer' and takes place via Zoom at 7.30pm on every Wednesday in Lent, beginning on 24 February. Once you have registered, you can come to all the sessions or just some of them. Please let me know if you will be coming.

YOU NEED TO REGISTER, and you can find out more about the course here:

Preparing the three short services a day entails a lot of work for a lot of people, but as far as we can discover, very few people are actually using the prayers. From the beginning of Lent (Ash Wednesday, 17 February), therefore, we shall stop providing the three daily services.

f you feel you would like to pray regularly during the day, the cathedral livestreams all its services every day; during the week they provide Morning Prayer or Communion at 8.30am, the Litany of Reconciliation at 12 noon, and Evening Prayer at 4.00pm. You don't need to join in with these services at the actual time, as when they have finished in real time they are available on the cathedral website for you to use at any time. A few of us attend this National Pilgrimage along with members from other neighbouring churches. Obviously this is not possible in person this year but should give a taste of the day for anyone wanting to see a little of what happens at Walsingham.

Join us for the National Pilgrimage online, which will be live-streamed from the Shrine of Our Lady of Walsingham.
(The Shrine Grounds will be closed on Monday 31st May due to the live-streaming)

A lovely service this morning and a fitting occasion for Canon John to preside over his last service as he begins his retirement. He chose some lovely music and it was good to welcome members of his family. John has been a great supporter of St. Francis over many years and we will miss him. We wish him a happy, healthy retirement - no doubt watching his beloved Coventry City

[05/17/21]   Today is the International Day Against Homophobia Biphobia and Transphobia. We take today to remember those who face prejudice, hate and even violence for being who they are. We remember those who have been made homeless for coming out, those who are struggling for treatment for gender dysphoria because of the way the doctors gatekeep treatment.

Just recently we saw in the news of a Russian man set on fire for being gay, a Middle Eastern man beheaded in an honour killing for being gay and at the moment harmful conversion therapy is still being discussed as an option to cure being LGBT.

We take today to remember and stand up. Say a prayer for those in need and try to be a good ally to a community that really needs it right now.

We join the nation in mourning deeply the passing of Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, Her Majesty’s Queen Elizabeth the Second’s consort and loyal companion for over 60 years.
Prince Philip played an important role in the life of the nation, not least through the support given to Queen Elizabeth and the Royal Family. His many accomplishments include naval duty throughout WW2, when he was mentioned in dispatches for his service during the battle of Cape Matapan.
Prince Philip will be mourned by us all, and we give grateful thanks for his long life.

Today is Mothering Sunday - a day to honour and give thanks for mothers everywhere.

Whilst this is a day of love and celebration, this is not the case for everyone. Today we also hold in our hearts those who have lost their mothers, those who have a difficult or non-existent relationship with their mothers, those who long to be mothers but aren't or cannot be, those mothers who are separated from their children, bereaved mothers, mothers who no longer have their children with them physically but will always be mothers, those who are mothers in all but name, those who are mother-figures, and everyone for whom today may feel tricky.

This year we remember especially all of those who have been impacted by the on-going COVID pandemic - children who have lost mothers and mothers who have lost children, and all of those who are unable to be together in person today.

A prayer for you all on Mothering Sunday

Loving God,
Thank you for mums and children
and for all the joy of family life.
Be with those who are grieving because they have no mother;
Be close to those who are struggling because they have no children;
Be near to those who are sad because they are far apart from those they love.
Let your love be present in every home,
And help your church to have eyes to see and ears to hear the needs of all who come.
We ask this in the name of Jesus Christ our Lord.
Amen.
