Hi Buckingham SA family. It is with sadness today that we have to tell you that Georgina Grace (nee Smith) was today promoted to glory. She along with her sister (Eva Showler) served at Buckingham in her younger years. Her Father (my Grandfather) George Smith was bandmaster for many years.

The Salvation Army in Buckingham is a growing community of people who are learning how to live out faith in Jesus, and loving Buckingham in practical ways.

Operating as usual

Family Church: Get Ready!

Let's worship Jesus together, as we look at the promises from the Old Testament that He would come.

Our lovely Cheryl Lott shares some of her story.

Last year, single mum Cheryl struggled to make ends meet and had no money in the run up to Christmas to buy presents for her three sons. In 2018, her partner left and she has struggled financially over the last two years. Cheryl is also recovering from alcoholism and bulimia.

“I felt very lost after my grandmother died,” she says, “and started drinking to ease the pain of her loss, as she was like a mother to me. I used to binge drink and I could drink anything.”

Cheryl heard about our Toy Appeal when she was worried about creating a joyful Christmas for her three children, all under the age of 10, and one of her sons has acute autism and ADHD.
When she approached us, she found new friendship and people she can confide in and last year, she shared a Christmas meal with her children with a host of other people, at her local Salvation Army church. Shortly before that, Cheryl had quit drinking.

“It was a lovely Christmas lunch and the potatoes were perfect!” Cheryl says, “My autistic son struggles a lot and The Salvation Army Captains talked to him so well… For the last two years my children have received toys through the toy appeals, which has made Christmas extra special for them. Captains Vanessa and Xander know my children and the sort of things they like.

“Christmas day was amazing, there may have been 30 people at the corps, sharing Christmas lunch together”.

Cheryl has special memories of Christmas with The Salvation Army last year: “It was the first time that we’d felt part of family, surrounded by love. I wasn’t on edge (as I use to be), I was relaxed and happy”.

Now, Cheryl is taking things one day at a time, “If I’m really struggling, I can catch up with Vanessa in the park at a safe distance and talk things through”.

We had a great time at out trial run of Get OWT (Get Outdoors With Toddlers) last week. Unfortunately lockdown 2.0 has stopped us in our tracks for a while, but we'll be back soon! In the meantime, we're delivering craft/activity bags to any families of little ones who are interested. Give us a message if you would like a little bag of joy to help you get out of the house, go for a wander and have some extra fun together. They're free and we're happy to deliver them to you every week while lockdown continues.
And we're looking forward to hanging out (safely) in person, outdoors, as soon as we can.

For our tomorrow they gave their today...

Grateful for each person who has given their life to protect freedom and peace. Blessed are the peacemakers, for theirs is the kingdom of God.

Our thanks to Sister Caroline Tinsley for placing a wreath on our behalf in remembrance of those members of Buckingham Salvation Army who fought in both World Wars.

Walking in a dark valley?

Sometimes life has us walking through the valley of the shadow of death. But God is here with us - if we want him to be.

We'll be celebrating light in the darkness this Halloween. This is going to be a great thing to bring your kids along to, with craft, activities and lots of sparkle.

Banging your head against the wall from being stuck indoors with your toddler? Here's something to help!

Here's a sneak peek at something we've got planned for after half-term!
If you're anything like us, you might be missing the wonderful Toddler Groups usually available in Buckingham. We still can't open Little Stars, so we're launching Get OWT (Outside With Toddlers), which is a covid-secure toddler session out in nature. Come rain, hail or shine!

Mark Wednesday 4th November in your diary, and stay tuned for more information and booking details!

Gleaned wheat made a tasty loaf. So good to share together in worship, indoors for the first time since March. Praying you experience God's provision and that He inspires you to generosity and to care for those who go without, like Ruth and Boaz.
