Avening Primary School: a happy, warm learning environment in the heart of the picturesque village of Avening, where we all aim to 'fly'!
Thank you Westonbirt School for a fabulous, magical day ⭐️
What better way to bring pupils together from Cricklade Manor Prep School, Heywood Prep, Hatherop Castle School, Avening Primary School, Westonbirt Prep School,Airthrie, Silverhill School & Day Nursery, and Leighterton Primary School, than to magically change Westonbirt School into Hogwarts for a Harry Potter Literacy Day where the children have written letters with invisible ink, unleashed their drama skills, and even enjoyed a feast fit for Hagrid.
Come and see us in action tomorrow, Friday 11 October, at our Open Morning, 9:15-12 noon. We look forward to showing off our happy, hard-working school - and there’s coffee and cake too! Here are a few photos of proud children and parents from last week’s Celebration in the Classrooms ⭐️
It’s World Mental Health Day and our fabulous School Council have raised over £100 for Young Minds #HelloYellow ⭐️
Feeling very proud of our School and Eco Councillors for their litter picking on the Avening Playing Field this morning - something they asked to do. Our children are respectful and community-minded. 👏👍🏻🤗

Thank you to Westonbirt School for arranging the visit from the wonderful Bethlehem dancers. The Owls were lucky- and after exhausted(!)- after their workshop!
It’s enrichment week, this year with an eco theme. Fleur from our Eco Council explains all: ‘In the previous few days we have taken part in an assortment of enthralling activities such as: art in the Forest School garden with Mrs Carter, kitchen-related activities with Mrs Wilkinson, eco-bricks with Mrs Gater and Dr Carter, collaging with Miss Smith, a visit from Bethlehem dancers, and dancing with Mr Wilkinson! In the dance, Saturn is representing deforestation, Mars is representing sea creatures, Neptune is representing litter pickers and Jupiter is representing vehicle gas pollution. We’ve also made a sculpture of waves from recycled plastic bottles. In every plastic bottle is a message promoting saving the ocean or environment. ‘ Come along at 2:45 tomorrow to watch the dance, then enjoy the Summer fete where our jams, chutneys, crafts and art work from this week will also be on sale!
Please support us by posting your green tokens in Stroud Waitrose 😊

Highly recommend this event happening in Tetbury this weekend for all of our bookworms! The way we teach writing at Avening is inspired by Pie Corbett’s brilliant approach to story-telling.
This man - this marvellous man - will be doing storytelling for the 7-11 year age group on Saturday at our Big Book Weekend. Tickets only £1 from the Good Shed or through our website: https://shed-arts.co.uk/event/pie-corbett-storytelling-for-7-11-year-olds/

We’ve achieved another GOLD! What a GREAT start to the new school year to achieve recognition for the many sporting opportunities the children at our school enjoy! It’s no wonder that we’ve also been nominated for the Gloucestershire schools’ equivalent of the Oscars. The award ceremony takes place later this month....
Last year 100% of pupils represented the school brilliantly in at least 1 sports competition. 95% of KS2 pupils took part in at least 1 active extra-curricular club. Well done EVERYONE!
Thank you to our dedicated coach and leader, Mr Wilkinson whose drive and commitment knows no bounds! 🏆
