St Marys Ambrosden's cover photo
The ordnance survey map indicates “Site of Cross” in the graveyard to the east of the chancel. Earlier plans mark it at the north east corner and one would like to be able to identify it more precisely with the present broken stump, for tradition has it that here stood a cross where the Gospels were read before even a church was built. Such a cross still stands at Woodeaton.
