A HomeBuilder is someone who is actively engaged in bringing help and hope to other marriages and families. FamilyLife Canada exists to bring help and hope to every marriage and family.
Building a thriving marriage and family takes time, patience, commitment and a great plan. Sometimes help is needed. Someone who can offer encouragement and coaching. Someone who can share God’s wisdom. Someone like you.
Mission: Our mission is to build strong marriages and healthy families in Canada and around the world.
One of the simple ways to bring help and hope to a couple is to invite them to an event that gives them some encouragement to keep growing their relationship. Here are come comments form the Whistler Weekend Getaway...
“We actually had a distraction free chunk of time to re-focus and realize what we needed to work on and had fun doing it!” - Wife 9 years
“I didn’t really want to come. BUT I was blown away by how much the seminars helped to focus my attention on my relationship. We spoke about so many things. We have not conversed as openly and authentically since before kids. Thank you…” -Husband 12 years
“I only learned of this event on the drive to Whistler and was very impressed with the content… Although I do not go to church or have accepted Jesus as God, the message and marriage advice is excellent.” -Husband 22 years
“Really opened up communication… Never would have done this on our own.” -Wife 4 years

Together for Good is a new resource for HomeBuilders, here's feedback from one user..."Family Life Canada has wonderful resources available to equip the local church with. It was a pleasure to meet with Brent and hear all they have to offer. I was planning a marriage enrichment retreat but hadn't found a video series I was super excited about yet. The couples registered for our retreat were at various places on the spiritual spectrum including non-Christian. After I previewed the FLC videos, I was confident this resource would work for all. They are well produced, have funny clips integrated, are a good length, and have excellent workbooks with breakout exercises for couples included. This is a pastor's perfect resource-plug and play- with minimal preparation, allowing for focus on organizing the event and then being able to fully participate in the sessions."

familylifecanada.com Staying together is also good in other significant ways. Staying together for good doesn’t just make people happier…it makes them and their families healthier and our churches and communities stronger. Did you know that happily married people live longer, have less illness, make more money and have…
Home Builder Idea…
This idea comes from my dear friends, the Murray’s in Ontario:
The young adult pastor first asked, “Who in the church community would you like to hear talk about marriage?” The young couples picked our friends, the Murray’s. They were asked to host an evening where they would answer some per-arranged questions about what it takes to stay married for 50 years. They decided on a backyard BBQ where our friends started with the per-arranged questions then moved to an open forum of questions. What a great idea to encourage these young couples!!!
It is amazing what one couple can do to help another. Maybe it's just letting them know that what they're experiencing is a normal part of married life!

Pastor Dan Murphy and his wife Nadine are "Rock Star" HomeBuilders!
The last weekend of February they did an amazing job at hosting a FamilyLife Time Together Marriage worship with 39 couples in at their home church Thompson Pentecostal Assembly in Thompson, Manitoba. They also had recruited 6 couples to be trained as Marriage Mentors on that same weekend. Bravo and God's Blessings Pastor Dan and Nadine!!!

These comments should encourage everyone that take the initiative to bring help and hope to other by inviting them to a weekend getaway or another event...
We were in the worst place our marriage has ever been in and coming to this weekend helped us back to a good place. Life has a way of getting in the way and we let things go for too long. We needed to be reminded of the most important principles to keeping us healthy. We are leaving feeling refreshed and energized to keep persevering. (husband, married 10 years)
We come back every 2 years… a promise we made to each other during our first Weekend Getaway 12 years ago. This is our 6th! Quite simply, we would not have stayed married for 20 years without it. Our lives are so busy and we are so stubborn that we need this to keep from drifting apart. These weekends keep us on track to oneness. We have committed to each other that we attend every 2 years… our marriage is worth it. (wife, married 20 years)
We both learned a lot and if God is willing, we want to minister/become mentors to other couples (wife, 24 years)
A simple invitation could change the direction of a marriage. Here are some comments from a recent marriage event... My guess is someone encouraged these couples to attend the event. Maybe it was you, or it could be you next time!
“You give us all permission to:
- feel again and to know we’re not alone
- laugh about our differences
- celebrate what we’re good at in life together
- have hope in the things that seem out of reach” Wife - 10 years
"These sessions really confirmed to me how well my wife and I are doing, but also made me realize some glaring items that need transforming. Improvement that I am now excited to undertake and complete.” Husband - 9 years

Research indicates that mentoring can effect dramatic, positive change. Marriages overall in Canada have a 59% success rate; however, couples undergoing marriage preparation and mentoring have a success rate of 80-90% (source: Vanier Institute).
