Five Minutes of Hope: Truth Matters

Somehow we have to find a way to get through this pandemic. But how can we do that when all the familiar things that we used to count on have been stripped away? We do that by having hope that is built on truth.

[12/04/20]   If we have ever wondered if this world is broken, the Covid-19 pandemic should remove all doubt. But how do we live a life of significance as a broken person in a broken world? We fix our eyes on Jesus, for He has not only started the process of restoring us and all creation, He will give us strength to endure until that process is complete. (Based on Psalm 23:1-6, Isaiah 40:21-31 & John 3:1-17.)

Jesus Moved into the Neighborhood 1: He Gathers

I remember that when I was little I would start to get excited this time of year. A Christmas tree would get set up in our living room and we would gather as a family to decorate it. Soon, presents would start appearing beneath the tree and me and my siblings would start inspecting the various specially wrapped packages to see if there were any with our names on them....

[11/28/20]   This pandemic is an opportunity for us to pause and reflect on what is really important. While this world values power, Jesus has shown us that choosing to be powerless before God is the way of faith, hope and love. Through His own powerlessness, Jesus began the process of gathering people into life with God now and forever life with Him in the new heaven and earth to come. (Based on Ps. 46:1-7, Isa. 11:1-12 & John 1:1-18.)

Back to Basics 5: “Go and Make Disciples”

Years ago there was a time when if you grew up in Canada, and you wanted to cheer for a Canadian NHL hockey team, there were only two choices. Your team was either going to be the Toronto Maple Leafs or the Montreal Canadiens. In 1970, the options increased from 2 to 3 when the Vancouver Canucks joined the NHL. Then the number of Canadian teams doubled in 1979 when the Edmonton Oilers, Winnipeg Jets and Quebec Nordiques came into the fold with the merger of the NHL and the WHA....

Faith Matters

When the Covid-19 pandemic first hit, many of us thought that it would be over in a few weeks, but it has turned into a miserable marathon. Here in Canada, we are deep into our second wave of the pandemic and things are looking dire. Yesterday, my home province of Alberta surpassed Ontario in being the province with the most active cases of Covid, even though Alberta has one third the population that Ontario does....

The Good News of the Christmas season is not the presents or the gatherings with friends and family, as wonderful as those things can be. The Good News of Christmas is, as The Message puts it, that God the Son "…became flesh and blood and moved into the neighborhood" (John 1:14). The God-human, Jesus Christ, did that in order to save us from sin, death and everlasting condemnation, but there are even greater implications that flow from the Incarnation. Jesus is still with us, and that makes all the difference.

This series runs from Nov 29, 2020 to Jan 10, 2021.

Nov 22, 2020 Worship Service

When we are small children, if we have good parents, it is easy to believe that all things are possible. But as we grow older, life begins to box us in and we become small people living small lives. But the risen Jesus gives us peace, the Holy Spirit and faith, and sends us into the world to carry His love and peace to the broken & hurting people around us. (Based on Rev. 7:9-17 & John 20:19-31.)

Nov 15, 2020 worship service - Back to Basics 10: Remain in My Love

Changing our habits can be a good thing, but it’s the brokenness in our heart that really need to be addressed. Thankfully, Jesus loves us with unconditional, infinite love, and as we remain in His love, He helps us to heal and bring healing to others. (Based on 1 John 4:7-21 & John 15:1-17.)

Though habits are important, the key to a better life is a matter of the heart. That’s why Jesus’ words “Remain in my love” are so important. “Remaining” & “love” are matters of the heart. So let’s reflect on Jesus’ words & worship Him together tomorrow at 10 am PT on wglc.online.church, YouTube & Facebook. Hang in there! God loves you, He is with you & He will get you through this! #backtobasics

Nov 8, 2020 worship - Back to Basics 9 - I am in You, and You are in Me

As we follow Jesus, we might reflect on how our life with Jesus begins or what it will be like in the future, but less so on our life with Jesus now. How can we have hope as we live as broken people in a broken world? The hope that Jesus gives us for now and forever comes out of the shared life that we live with Him. (Based on Gal. 2:11-21 & John 14:15-27.)

Let’s worship together online tomorrow at wglc.online.church, YouTube & Facebook at 10 am PT, 11 am MT & 12 noon ET. There will be no in-person worship service tomorrow. All in-person ministry has been moved online through to Nov 23.

Prayer is something that many people do. But why should we pray and how? Does prayer really do anything or are we simply casting our wishes into the empty void of the universe? Jesus helps us to see that prayer is powerful because we have a good and loving Father in heaven who wants to give us good gifts. (Based on 1 John 5:1-15 & Luke 11:1-13.)

October 25, 2020 Worship service

It is human nature to love only those who love you. But God doesn’t love like that. He loves all people, even those who are His enemies, and His Son Jesus died and rose again to pay the full cost for all people to be reconciled to God. Therefore, as His children, we love as He does. We are unconcerned whether others love us in return. We have all the love we need in Jesus. (Based on Rom. 12:9-21 & Mt. 5:38-48.)
