The God of Second Chances

"You know the story. He came to his own, but they didn’t receive him. He was despised and rejected, and we hid our faces from him and held him in low esteem."

But God is a God of second chances. Read this powerful devotional here: “Beginning at Jerusalem.” These three amazing words tell us much about the love and grace of our great Savior.  You know the story. He came to his own, but they didn’t receive him. He was despised and rejected, and we hid our faces from him and held him in low esteem (Isaiah 53:3.  For three...

TAKE2.061 Made for Community

We first need God and also need community with others, and as we carry this out we are following in step with the likeness and purpose that we have been created with.

Tara, a previous Edmonton staff member, gives a reminder and picture of the beauty of community. We need each other - both for giving and receiving. Watch the video:

but it is the Lord’s purpose that prevails."

Jesus looked at them and said, “With man this is impossible, but not with God; all things are possible with God.”
- MARK 10:27

"In our rich culture, there are a lot of young (and old!) men and women who do not want to give up everything to follow Jesus. Persuading them to be Christians often seems impossible. Jesus acknowledged that it is hard for those who are rich to enter the Kingdom of God; in fact he said that it was easier for a camel to go through the “eye of a needle” than for a rich man to enter the Kingdom of God." Read the devotional here: This statement from Jesus follows a question asked by his disciples, “Who then can be saved?” Jesus had challenged a rich man to sell all of his worldly possessions and become a disciple, but the young man went away, sorry that he could not do as Jesus asked. In our rich culture, there are a lot...

Feedback from nation-wide online gathering

This weekend we held a nation-wide online volunteer gathering! We normally hold volunteer training events in person and locally, so it was a beautiful thing to see volunteers and staff connecting across the country. The relationship building and unity were incredibly valuable to everyone who attended.

"How incredible it was to see so many faces on the call, each one a part of the whole that carries the gospel to others!" - CS Volunteer

Read more feedback here: On Saturday, November 7th, 2020, Connecting Streams held it's first Canada-wide online volunteer gathering. The purpose of the gathering was to come together, learn what is happening with Connecting Streams, and thank the Lord for the great things that are happening, even through these challenging t...

TAKE2.077 Intentional Rest

Though it may seem that we have been on a "break" from ministry for a while, there is much still happening in and around CS. Resting is something that is difficult to do when there is so much to get done, and we encourage you to take 2 minutes today to hear from Emily Lecerf (Operations Manager) about what an actual "break" or a time of "rest" may look like in your own life.

Power to Change Ministries

Thoughtful and encouraging post from Power to Change Ministries.

“When the political landscape looks dark and foreboding, where is our hope? Can we trust political leadership to provide a better way forward? What if leaders in the government sphere are far from God and pursuit of His precepts?

It can be difficult to feel hopeful in this time when our political future is uncertain and small actions don’t seem to make a difference. However, from my perspective of observing and experiencing realities up close in Ottawa with the Christian Embassy, I believe there are many reasons for optimism for the future of Canada!”

Darlene McLean, Executive Director of the Christian Embassy, offers wisdom and encouragement from years of experience serving in the political sphere. Read the full blog:

Time to Break Camp

"Has God been telling you that it’s time to “break camp” and get on with the challenge ahead? Perhaps you’ve grown comfortable in your life, but God has something new for you to do. His presence is lifting up from where you are, and it’s time to move on."

Read the devotional here: We were on a camping trip when we came to the perfect spot. Our campsite was near a beautiful lake. A grocery store was nearby. It even had showers with hot water! Sadly, three days was the limit per stay, so we had to pack up and drove on. The Israelites were camping on the way to the promised land...

We Serve God By Serving Others

"Many people have the misconception that being “called” by God is something only missionaries, pastors, nuns, and other church leaders experience. But the Bible says everyone is called to serve God by serving others."

Read more: We are not saved by serving, but we are saved for serving. The Apostle Paul gives three insights related to this: the basis for serving others; the barrier to serving others; and the motive for serving others. Learning how to serve others for God may have more to do with your heart than you think.

Defining Identity and Purpose

"If you believe there is more to this life than whatever image we create for ourselves, you can look beyond this finite existence and peer into eternity — into some eternal identity. If you have an infinite existence — an after-life — surely your identity is fastened to something beyond this world and your natural life."

Read this powerful read about defining identity and purpose: What is our true identity? How do we find our true purpose? Does a particular job, image, ethnicity, sexual orientation, temperament, or social status determine identity? If we define identity as a simple list of personal characteristics, we ignore the issue of why we are here on this earth. There i...

TAKE2.087 Grieving-Coming Alongside

In this week's T2 (also from the Panel at the Edmonton Volunteer Training), Mary Lou Ng offers us some savvy help for coming alongside those who are grieving.

TAKE2 for TRAINING Trainer: Mary Lou Ng (staff-Edmonton) Source: excerpt from Volunteer Training Panel-EDM (2018 10)

We hope your having a blessed Thanksgiving weekend. What are you thankful for?

"Count it all joy, my brothers, when you meet trials of various kinds, for you know that the testing of your faith produces steadfastness. And let steadfastness have its full effect, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing. If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask God, who gives generously to all without reproach, and it will be given him. But let him ask in faith, with no doubting, for the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea that is driven and tossed by the wind" - James 1:2-4

Power to Change Ministries

In this conversation, Corey shares his journey with mental illness — how he tried to ignore it at first until he couldn’t any longer, and how that potent realization changed how he sees himself and God.

“The same God who gives you the power to conquer gives you the power to endure. I think that’s been my story — one of enduring, of hardship.”

In this conversation, Corey shares his journey with mental illness — how he tried to ignore it at first, until he couldn’t any longer, and how that potent realization changed how he sees himself and God.

“It really made me rediscover that my identity is in Christ, and Christ alone. When I stand before him, it’s not what I’ve done that’s granting me worthiness. I’m on a journey to discover that, but I’m much more aware of it than I used to be.”

You can count on me

Do you subscribe to our newsletter? In this month's newsletter, National Director Theresa Quann shares her experience at a silent retreat last year - she heard and felt Jesus' promise "You can count on me."

Read more here: I think there are few words that hold as much assurance, confidence, and comfort as these words uttered from a valued friend, especially when life is full of challenges and disappointment. While on my silent retreat in the summer of 2019, Jesus revealed Himself to me in a profound, personal, and int...

Always Under Construction

"It does not matter when you accepted him, you are now part of the family and you are a new creation. Once you accept him as your Lord and Savior, the fun part begins. You get to see all the exciting ways you can become a new creation. Your old self is gone. The temptation to sin is still there, but you have the Creator of all life in you to help you overcome it."

General information

Vision: The Church and society’s vulnerable populations transformed together by Jesus. Connecting Streams' Ministry creates movements of people passionate about Jesus Christ, and we mobilize them to reach their friends, community, and world. We take under-alive believers and connect them with the broken and marginalized to share God’s love. In the process, both come to life! The broken and marginalized discover a relationship with Jesus Christ. Volunteers reach out and experience the power of the Holy Spirit. Volunteers and new believers inspire others to embrace God's faith adventure. Connecting Streams is a ministry arm of Power to Change.
