St. Mary The Virgin

Comments

Today the Church celebrates the Feast of Saint Mary the Virgin-The Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary.

Mary said, "My soul magnifies the Lord, and my spirit rejoices in God my Saviour, for he has looked with favor on the lowliness of his servant. Surely, from now on all generations will call me blessed; for the Mighty One has done great things for me, and holy is his name. His mercy is for those who fear him from generation to generation. He has shown strength with his arm; he has scattered the proud in the thoughts of their hearts. He has brought down the powerful from their thrones, and lifted up the lowly; he has filled the hungry with good things, and sent the rich away empty. He has helped his servant Israel, in remembrance of his mercy, according to the promise he made to our ancestors, to Abraham and to his descendants forever." (Luke 1:46-55)

Tell out, my soul, the greatness of the Lord!
Unnumbered blessings give my spirit voice;
Tender to me the promise of His Word;
In God my Saviour shall my heart rejoice.

Tell out, my soul, the glories of His Word!
Firm is His promise, and His mercy sure.
Tell out my soul, the greatness of the Lord
To children’s children and forevermore!

O God, you have taken to yourself the blessed Virgin Mary, mother of your incarnate Son: Grant that we, who have been redeemed by his blood, may share with her the glory of your eternal kingdom; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. AMEN.

TODAY THE FEAST OF ST. MICHAEL AND ALL ANGELS.
They come, God's messengers of love,
They come from realms of peace above,
From homes of never-fading light,
From blissful mansions ever bright.
They come to watch around us here,
To soothe our sorrow, calm our fear,
Ye heavenly guides, speed not away,
God willeth you with us to stay.
TEN VALUABLE LESSONS FROM NOAH'S ARK

1. Plan ahead. It was not raining when Noah built the Ark.

2. Stay fit. Even when you're 600 years old, God may ask you to do something big.

3. Don't listen to critics. Just get on with the job.

4. Build your future on high ground.

5. For safety sake, travel in pairs

6. Don't miss the boat.

7. Speed isn't always an advantage. Remember, snails were on board with cheetahs.

8. When you feel stressed, just float a while.

9. Remember, we are all in the same boat.

10. Trust God always!

St.Luke the physician...We prayer for All Physicians and Health Professionals on this day, asking for their continued protection and strength during this difficult time.🙏🙏
Today we commemorate Luke the evangelist. Identified as the author of both Luke and Acts, Luke was careful to place the events of Jesus' life in their social and religious contexts. His gospel gives us some of the most beloved parables, as well as the songs of Zechariah, Mary, the angels, and Simeon.

TODAY IS THE FEAST OF ST. MICHAEL AND ALL ANGELS..

🕊 SAINT OF THE DAY 🕊

🙏🏻 ST. MICHAEL, GABRIEL, AND RAPHAEL 🙏🏻
(Feast Day: Sept. 29,)

Pray for us!

Saints Michael, Gabriel, and Raphael’s Story

Angels—messengers from God—appear frequently in Scripture, but only Michael, Gabriel and Raphael are named.

Michael appears in Daniel’s vision as “the great prince” who defends Israel against its enemies; in the Book of Revelation, he leads God’s armies to final victory over the forces of evil. Devotion to Michael is the oldest angelic devotion, rising in the East in the fourth century. The Church in the West began to observe a feast honoring Michael and the angels in the fifth century.

Gabriel also makes an appearance in Daniel’s visions, announcing Michael’s role in God’s plan. His best-known appearance is an encounter with a young Jewish girl named Mary, who consents to bear the Messiah.

Raphael’s activity is confined to the Old Testament story of Tobit. There he appears to guide Tobit’s son Tobiah through a series of fantastic adventures which lead to a threefold happy ending: Tobiah’s marriage to Sarah, the healing of Tobit’s blindness, and the restoration of the family fortune.

The memorials of Gabriel and Raphael were added to the Roman calendar in 1921. The 1970 revision of the calendar joined their individual feasts to Michael’s.

Reflection

Each of the archangels performs a different mission in Scripture: Michael protects; Gabriel announces; Raphael guides. Earlier belief that inexplicable events were due to the actions of spiritual beings has given way to a scientific world-view and a different sense of cause and effect. Yet believers still experience God’s protection, communication, and guidance in ways which defy description. We cannot dismiss angels too lightly.

Saints Michael, Gabriel, and Raphael are the Patron Saints of:

Death
Germany
Grocers
Police Officers/First Responders
Radiologists

Saint Gabriel is the Patron Saint of:

Broadcasters/Communicators

Saint Raphael is the Patron Saint of:

The Blind
Travelers

[09/20/21]   St. Mary's mourns the loss of three of our members.
Eloise Colebrooke, Fred Henfield and Evan Reid.
May their souls rest in peace and rise in glory.
Our prayers and God's peace be with their families during this difficult time.

TAKEN FROM A POST BY FR. Toppin from St. James.
Today the Church celebrates the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary.

In the sixth month the angel Gabriel was sent by God to a town in Galilee called Nazareth, to a virgin engaged to a man whose name was Joseph, of the house of David. The virgin's name was Mary. And he came to her and said, "Greetings, favored one! The Lord is with you." But she was much perplexed by his words and pondered what sort of greeting this might be. The angel said to her, "Do not be afraid, Mary, for you have found favor with God. And now, you will conceive in your womb and bear a son, and you will name him Jesus. He will be great, and will be called the Son of the Most High, and the Lord God will give to him the throne of his ancestor David. He will reign over the house of Jacob forever, and of his kingdom there will be no end."
(Luke 1:26-33)

Virgin-born, we bow before thee;
Blessèd was the womb that bore thee;
Mary, mother meek and mild,
Blessèd was she in her child.

Blessèd was the breast that fed thee;
Blessèd was the hand that led thee;
Blessèd was the parent's eye
That watched thy slumbering infancy.

Blessèd she by all creation,
Who brought forth the world's Salvation,
Blessèd they for ever blest,
Who love thee most and serve thee best.

Virgin-born we bow before thee;
Blessèd was the womb that bore thee;
Mary, mother meek and mild,
Blessèd was she in her child.

Almighty God, with grace you have made the Blessed Virgin Mary to be the mother of your Son by the same grace hallow our bodies in chastity and our souls in humility and love; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. AMEN.
